Epic’s digital asset shop is Fab, a unified marketplace that officially launched on October 22, 2024. It brought together the Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab Store, Quixel Megascans, and ArtStation Marketplace in one destination for buying, selling, and discovering production assets.
Fab is not the Epic Games Store or Fortnite Item Shop. It sells digital content for developers and creators: 3D models, environments, materials, VFX, audio, animations, characters, plugins, and tools. It is available at Fab.com, through the Epic Games Launcher, and through integrations with Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

What is Fab?
Fab is Epic’s marketplace for digital production content. Its catalog is aimed at game developers, 3D artists, technical artists, UEFN creators, studios, and other users of digital-content tools.
Buyers can find individual assets, multi-asset packs, free products, paid products, plugins, and engine-specific tools. Typical categories include:

Fab’s scope is broader than an Unreal-only store, but that does not mean every product works in every engine. A Unity-ready package, an Unreal plugin, and a universal FBX model have very different installation and compatibility requirements.
Which marketplaces did Fab replace?
Fab consolidated four existing destinations:
- Unreal Engine Marketplace
- Sketchfab Store
- Quixel Megascans
- ArtStation Marketplace
Epic described the change as a unified marketplace rather than a simple rename of the Unreal Engine Marketplace. Existing Unreal Marketplace and Sketchfab sellers were moved into the new ecosystem, while buyers gained a broader catalog and a shared library.
Migration did not necessarily make every legacy product, review, license, or feature identical. Epic’s documentation also notes that some migrated products may temporarily retain the legacy Unreal Engine Marketplace License while publishers update them. That legacy license is being phased out for new products.

Fab is most immediately useful to Unreal Engine developers and UEFN creators, but Epic is targeting a wider audience:
- Unreal developers: environments, props, characters, materials, plugins, blueprints, and other native content.
- Unity developers: assets distributed as Unity packages or compatible formats, subject to each listing’s requirements.
- UEFN creators: content intended for Fortnite experiences and Unreal Editor for Fortnite workflows.
- 3D artists: models, materials, and files for applications such as Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, and Cinema 4D.
- Studios and freelancers: production-ready starting points that can reduce modeling, texturing, or tool-development work.
- Hobbyists and students: free and paid assets for learning, prototypes, and personal projects.
Epic’s broad tool coverage is an important part of Fab’s ambition. However, buyers should treat “supports Unity” or “supports Unreal Engine” as catalog-level descriptions, not guarantees that every product is plug-and-play.

Epic Games Launcher
The Epic Games Launcher provides a desktop route for browsing and purchasing Fab content, managing downloads, batch exporting, and filtering assets already stored locally. It is particularly convenient for users with large libraries, although it adds reliance on Epic’s desktop ecosystem.

Epic’s current Fab information identifies built-in integrations for Unreal Engine 5.3 and later, with documentation available for earlier Unreal versions. Fab content can also be discovered through Unreal Editor for Fortnite. These integrations are intended to let creators find relevant content from inside their development tools and add or drag supported assets into a project.
Integration status changed after the 2024 launch: the launch announcement described the Unreal integration as still forthcoming and the UEFN integration as temporarily under maintenance. Current availability should therefore be judged from Fab’s current product information and its documentation, not from launch-day statements.

Fab currently offers Creative Commons Attribution and Standard licensing.

The Standard License is available for free and paid products, with Personal and Professional price tiers. The distinction is based on the buyer’s commercial revenue, not simply on team size or whether the buyer calls themselves an indie developer.

- Personal: the buyer has not generated more than $100,000 in gross revenue from commercial activity in the digital-content industry during the previous 12 months.
- Professional: the buyer has generated more than $100,000 under the license’s relevant definition.
The exact treatment of revenue, controlling entities, and related entities is governed by Fab’s license terms. A personal price tier may be inappropriate for a commercially successful studio even if that studio has a small team.
Purchasing a license grants usage rights; it does not transfer ownership of the underlying asset. Third-party components, trademarks, recognizable likenesses, fonts, music, and embedded content may have additional rights or restrictions.
What does Fab’s NoAI tag mean?
Fab’s NoAI meta tag indicates that an asset must not be used for generative-AI data collection. Epic also says that assets carrying the NoAI tag cannot be offered under the Creative Commons Attribution license; sellers must use the Standard License instead.

NoAI is a licensing and metadata signal, not a technical anti-copying or anti-scraping system. Buyers should still read the actual license and product terms, while sellers need to select a compatible license when applying the designation.
How much do Fab assets cost?
Sellers set base prices in U.S. dollars using Epic’s preset increments. The documented structure is:

How much do sellers receive?
Fab’s publisher documentation says sellers receive 88% of product-sale revenue. That is Epic’s stated marketplace share, not a guarantee of final take-home income. Taxes, refunds, currency conversion, payment arrangements, and business expenses can reduce a seller’s net amount.
Refunds are deducted from subsequent payouts. Payments are made approximately 30 days after the end of the month in which revenue was earned once the payable balance reaches $100. Balances below that threshold roll over until the minimum is reached. Epic’s publisher documentation also covers treatment of unpaid revenue older than a year.
How do sellers publish a product?
The documented publishing process is:
- Create or use an Epic Games or Developer Community account.
- Set up a Fab publisher profile and payout information.
- Create a product listing.
- Upload the product files.
- Add a thumbnail and screenshots or a 3D preview.
- Enter technical details, licensing, pricing, and content classifications.
- Submit the listing for Epic’s review.
- Publish after approval.
Fab requires a thumbnail and at least one image or 3D preview in the media gallery. Products are reviewed before becoming visible to buyers.
A strong listing should clearly state supported engine and software versions, installation steps, dependencies, performance considerations, optimization notes, known limitations, included files, licensing details, and the seller’s update or support policy. Demonstration scenes should show what purchasers actually receive rather than only presenting a polished final render.

Before purchasing, check the following details on the individual listing:
- Engine or application: Is it for Unreal Engine, Unity, UEFN, Blender, or a general-purpose workflow?
- Version: Does it support the engine or application version used by your project?
- Format: Are the files delivered as FBX, glTF, USDZ, a native package, or something else?
- Dependencies: Does the product require a plugin, shader, paid tool, or additional asset pack?
- Performance: Are polygon counts, texture resolutions, collision data, LODs, and platform limitations documented?
- License tier: Does your project fit the Personal or Professional revenue definition?
- Attribution: Does the product use CC-BY or another license requiring credit?
- Third-party rights: Are fonts, music, scanned materials, brands, or likenesses covered separately?
- Maintenance: Is the publisher still updating the asset, especially if it is a plugin or engine-native project?
- Availability: Can your team retain downloaded files, documentation, and a replacement plan if the product is delisted?
Common problems include Unity assets requiring manual material conversion, Unreal plugins breaking after engine updates, incomplete source files, poor collision, missing LODs, broken animations, and screenshots that conceal technical limitations. Compatibility should be evaluated product by product.

What Fab does not replace
Fab is not:
- The Epic Games Store, which distributes games
- The Fortnite Item Shop, which sells Fortnite-related virtual goods
- A game distribution platform
- A general-purpose digital-asset management system
- A guarantee that one asset will work across every engine or DCC application
Its role is closer to a production-content marketplace: a place to acquire the building blocks used to make games, experiences, visualizations, and other digital work.
Fab compared with alternatives
Unity Asset Store
The Unity Asset Store is the more natural first stop for teams that need Unity-native packages, tools, and established Unity workflows. Fab may be more attractive when a project spans Unreal, Unity, UEFN, and general 3D formats.
Sketchfab
Sketchfab remains associated with browser-based 3D model viewing, presentation, and sharing. Its former Store was consolidated into Fab, but Sketchfab as a broader 3D viewing and publishing service is not identical to Fab.
CGTrader
CGTrader can be a better fit for buyers seeking general-purpose 3D models, including architectural visualization and uses outside a particular game engine.
Blender Market
Blender Market is more tightly focused on Blender add-ons, tools, and Blender-centric production assets.
Direct creator sales
Buying directly from a known creator can be preferable when a studio needs custom licensing or direct support. The trade-off is less standardized discovery, payment handling, refunds, support, and long-term availability.
Fab’s documented 88% publisher share, $100 payout threshold, approximate payment timing, and price structure are not grounds for assuming that competing marketplaces have identical economics. Current commission and seller-plan figures for those alternatives should be checked separately.

Is Fab worth using?
Fab is a substantial consolidation of Epic’s creator marketplaces and a serious option for Unreal Engine, UEFN, Unity, and general 3D-content buyers. Its strongest advantage is the attempt to put engine-native and broadly compatible assets in one catalog, with access through the web, launcher, and development tools.
Its value still depends on the individual product. Before buying, verify the format, engine version, dependencies, technical quality, license tier, third-party rights, and maintenance expectations. For sellers, the 88% stated revenue share is attractive, but payout timing, refunds, taxes, and the work required to maintain high-quality listings all matter.
