Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School is listed as a November 2026 release, so its final controls and accessibility menu are not yet documented. Steam confirms full controller support for Xbox, DUALSHOCK and DualSense controllers over USB, plus single-player, online co-op and shared/split-screen co-op. It also advertises an optional No-Timer Mode. Exact keyboard bindings, button layouts, remapping and most other accessibility options remain unverified until the released build and platform menus can be checked.
What is confirmed before release
The sequel is currently presented as Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School on Steam, although many searches and the requested title shorten that to “Escape Academy: Back 2 School.” Steam marks the game as not yet available and gives a planned November 2026 release. Treat every control or settings detail as pre-release information until the live game and your platform’s current store page agree.

The most useful confirmed facts are compatibility and pacing features rather than button-by-button instructions:
- Steam lists full controller support for Xbox controllers, DUALSHOCK controllers and DualSense controllers. The listing specifically identifies USB use; it does not promise wireless behavior.
- Steam lists single-player, online co-op and shared/split-screen co-op.
- Steam advertises an optional No-Timer Mode so players can solve puzzles at their own pace.
- The exact keyboard/mouse controls, controller layout, remapping controls and settings-menu path have not been published.
That distinction matters. “Full controller support” tells you that the game is intended to work with the named controller families; it does not tell you which button interacts, opens the inventory, rotates an object or pauses the game.

Controller support and known input options
| Input or platform detail | What the listing establishes | What is still unknown |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox controller | Named by Steam under full controller support. | Button assignments, wireless behavior, vibration options and remapping. |
| DUALSHOCK controller | Named by Steam under full controller support, with USB identified. | Exact layout, wireless behavior, touch-pad or motion use and remapping. |
| DualSense controller | Named by Steam under full controller support, with USB identified. | Adaptive-trigger or haptic-feature support, exact layout and remapping. |
| Keyboard and mouse | No button chart or complete keyboard specification is published in the available listing information. | Movement keys, interaction keys, menu shortcuts, mouse behavior and rebinding. |
| Steam demo | Demo metadata reports partial controller support. | Whether a particular demo build behaves like the final game. |
If you plan to use a gamepad on PC, a wired connection is the safest interpretation of Steam’s current wording, especially for DUALSHOCK and DualSense. A generic PC controller is optional; no controller is stated to be required. Do not infer that one controller family is more accessible or more reliable than another without testing the released build.
Why the demo label should not be used as the final answer
The demo is marked with partial controller support, while the full-game Steam listing says full controller support. Those labels describe different builds or products. A demo that lacks a button, has incomplete prompts or behaves differently cannot establish what the release version will do. If a controller works in the demo, that is encouraging but not a guarantee; if it fails in the demo, the result may reflect the demo build rather than the final game.
Keyboard, mouse and control remapping
There is no verified button-by-button chart for the sequel. That means a responsible guide cannot state that movement uses a particular key, that an object is picked up with a particular mouse button, or that a menu opens with a particular controller button. Do not copy the original game’s layout or assume the sequel inherited it.

Remapping is also unconfirmed. The available listings do not establish a keyboard-remapping screen, controller-rebinding screen, sensitivity slider, toggle/hold choices, or a way to assign individual puzzle actions. Platform-level remapping features may exist outside the game, but those are not the same as an in-game accessibility option and can produce different prompts or conflicts.
After launch, check the live build for a clearly labelled Controls, Input or Keybinds page. Record whether it covers movement, camera, interaction, inventory, pause and co-op communication separately. If the game only offers a preset layout, use the platform’s own controller-remapping facility where available and expect on-screen button prompts to remain tied to the original layout.
Co-op, split-screen and cross-platform play
| Storefront or listing | Modes and platform claims | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | Single-player, online co-op and shared/split-screen co-op. | The listing does not specify player-count details for every mode or the exact cross-platform combinations. |
| Xbox UK store | Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC; single-player; local co-op for two; online co-op for two; shared/split screen; cross-platform co-op; cross-generation multiplayer. | Store metadata can change. Verify the current platform page before buying or troubleshooting a session. |
For a local session, the Xbox listing specifically describes two-player local co-op and shared or split screen. Steam’s shared/split-screen label confirms that the mode is advertised on that storefront, but it does not document how players join, which input devices can be mixed, or whether every puzzle supports simultaneous interaction.

Cross-platform and cross-generation language appears on the Xbox listing. It is useful evidence that those combinations are planned, not a guarantee that every PC storefront, account type or release region will participate. Check the live platform descriptions and any in-game cross-play requirements when the game launches.

No-Timer Mode is the clearest accessibility-related feature currently advertised. Steam describes it as an optional way to solve puzzles at your own pace. It addresses time pressure directly: players who need longer to read clues, coordinate with a partner, process visual information or take breaks should be able to avoid the normal countdown if the released implementation matches the listing.
A developer account, sku11knight, wrote in a Steam Community discussion on June 16, 2025: “hey dark, for Escape Academy 2, we’re implementing it with a no timer mode specifically cause of this thread!” The post also explained that the first game’s timer was too interconnected with room logic to remove feasibly. This is development context, not a complete specification of the final menu or of how every room and co-op mode will behave.

What No-Timer Mode does not prove
- It does not establish that every puzzle, game mode or platform will expose the option in the same way.
- It does not prove that other timed mechanics disappear; the store description only advertises the mode as a way to solve puzzles at your own pace.
- It does not confirm whether the setting can be changed mid-room, whether a host controls it in co-op, or whether progress can move between timed and untimed sessions.
Look for the option in the released game and confirm its scope before starting a campaign. If you are joining someone else’s co-op room, ask the host which pacing mode is active; the available information does not establish whether guests can override it.
Other accessibility settings: currently unverified
No published inventory confirms the following options in Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School:
- Keyboard or controller rebinding.
- Adjustable look or aiming sensitivity.
- Toggle versus hold controls.
- Subtitle size, speaker labels, background opacity or subtitle speaker colors.
- Color-blind filters, contrast modes or other color options.
- Audio visualization, visual indicators for important sounds or independent audio sliders.
- Text-to-speech, screen-reader support, narration speed or menu narration.
- Camera shake, motion blur, field-of-view or other comfort controls.
- Separate co-op assist features or a way to pause a shared session.
Absence from the published information is not proof that an option will never exist. It means the feature should not be promised in a buying guide or troubleshooting answer until the current build shows it. The original game, generic PC settings and community requests cannot be used as evidence that the sequel includes the same accommodations.

Language support by storefront
| Storefront | Interface and subtitles | Full audio |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | English, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Spanish (Latin America). | English only. |
| Epic | Its listing uses Spanish (Spain) in the text-language information. | The available listing information does not establish additional full-audio languages. |
The Spanish labels conflict: Steam says Spanish (Latin America), while the Epic listing says Spanish (Spain). Language availability can be storefront- and region-specific, so check the page for the platform and edition you will actually use. Do not treat one store’s locale label as a promise for another.
How to prepare for launch without guessing at controls
- Check the current product page. Confirm that the game has released, then re-read the controller, co-op and language sections for your platform. Pre-release metadata can change.
- Choose an input method. On PC, connect a supported controller by USB if you want to follow Steam’s explicitly documented setup. If you prefer keyboard and mouse, wait for the live game’s own control page rather than relying on an old guide.
- Test in a safe area. Before committing to a long co-op session, verify movement, interaction, camera, pause and any inventory or clue controls. This catches a bad device profile without risking puzzle progress.
- Set the pacing option early. If you need untimed play, locate No-Timer Mode before entering the first room and confirm whether it applies to the current save or lobby.
- Audit accessibility needs. Check subtitles, text size, color, audio and comfort settings directly. If an option is absent, use only platform-level accommodations that you understand and test.
- Confirm co-op compatibility. For local play, check the second input device. For online or cross-platform play, verify the exact platform pairing and player count shown by the current listing.
Troubleshooting checklist
The controller is not detected
- Use a direct USB connection, particularly for DUALSHOCK or DualSense hardware, because USB is the connection identified in Steam’s listing.
- Confirm that the game is the full release rather than the demo, since the demo carries a partial-support label.
- Check the platform’s current controller-support notes and test the device outside the game. Do not assume that a wireless connection is supported just because the controller family is listed.
Prompts do not match the controller
- Disconnect extra input devices and reconnect the intended controller before launching.
- Look for an in-game input or prompt preference, but do not assume one exists; the menu path is not documented.
- If the game accepts input but displays the wrong glyphs, report the exact controller, platform and connection type rather than changing random bindings.
You cannot find No-Timer Mode
- Confirm that you are running the released build and not an older demo.
- Check the game’s current settings and mode-selection screens; their labels and locations have not been published.
- Verify whether the host controls the setting in co-op. The available documentation does not say whether guests can change it.
Co-op will not connect
- Compare both players’ platforms with the current Xbox or PC store metadata.
- Distinguish local/shared-screen play from online play; they use different connection paths.
- For cross-platform or cross-generation sessions, recheck the live listing because those capabilities are storefront metadata and may be revised.
What this guide can and cannot promise
You can plan around three solid points: named controller families are advertised, multiple co-op formats are listed, and No-Timer Mode is advertised as optional. You cannot yet plan around a specific key chart, a particular button layout, remapping, subtitle customization, color filters or other accommodations that have not been documented. Those details require the released game or an updated official platform page.
For players who need predictable input or accessibility support, the sensible approach is to wait for the live settings menu, test the first room with the intended hardware and confirm the pacing and co-op configuration before investing in a full session. That avoids turning a pre-release promise into an assumption about controls the current build has not yet exposed.
