Escape from Tarkov has four main-story endings, according to Battlestate Games head Nikita Buyanov. The headline figure that 80% of players will miss the best one is not a measured completion rate: it comes from a reported estimate that around 20% could access that ending.
Where the “80%” claim comes from
In comments at Tokyo Game Show 2025, Buyanov described the best ending as exceptionally difficult and estimated that around 20% of players could access it, according to Insider Gaming’s October 2025 report. The “80% won’t see it” framing is the arithmetic complement of that estimate, not a separately reported statistic.
The reviewed reporting does not provide a player dataset, calculation, or methodology behind the estimate. It should therefore be read as Buyanov’s forecast about difficulty, not as evidence that four out of five players have tried and failed to reach the ending.
How the four endings are determined
Buyanov said the main story has multiple branching points, with player choices determining which of the four endings follows. In a November 2025 interview reported by 4Gamer, he pointed to immersion in the story, caution in how players act, and understanding the game’s world as relevant to those choices. He also said many choices and their consequences are not immediately obvious.

That offers a broad picture of the decision-making involved, not a full route guide. The available reporting does not establish a complete list of choices or requirements for each ending, so it cannot support a reliable step-by-step method for securing the best one.
What reaching the final mission involves
In the same 1.0 launch-period interview, Buyanov described the final mission as involving PvP and cooperation among players. He said a failed attempt returns a character to the state they were in before the attempt, and that rewards differ depending on the ending. These are his comments about the launch-period design; they are not confirmation that the mechanics have remained unchanged through later patches.

Players have reached endings, including the best one
December 2025 reports show the endings were attainable, despite the forecast difficulty. 4Gamer reported that streamer Tigz reached a bad ending—described as neither the worst nor the good ending. Buyanov said the first player to complete the game with the best ending would receive something special, and the official account congratulated Tigz for being the first to escape.
On December 3, 2025, ixbt.games reported, citing Battlestate Games, that Tsukinogi was the first player to escape with the best ending in PvE. That named achievement demonstrates that the ending was reachable in that mode; it does not establish what share of the overall player base can reach it.
