The “Hardcore Wipe” was Escape from Tarkov’s July 2025 wipe, launched on July 10—not a still-upcoming event. It began with a deliberately restricted progression and map-access setup, then changed as Battlestate Games gradually restored features. The initial rules should not be mistaken for a permanent hardcore mode or the final state of the wipe.
What “Hardcore Wipe” meant
In this context, “Hardcore Wipe” described a wipe built around changes to progression and the in-game economy to slow the pace of play. It was not simply a label for an optional mode: PC Gamer’s launch coverage described an update and wipe with altered rules, progression and access. The reviewed sources do not establish whether players could opt out or how the rules applied to PvE.
Verified creator Pestily previewed the July wipe in a segment titled “Hardcore Wipe” in an updated roadmap video on June 27, 2025. That was pre-launch coverage, rather than the primary developer announcement. Pestily’s June 27 roadmap video
How the rules changed after launch
| When | Reported state | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| July 10, 2025: launch | Two of the game’s 11 maps were directly selectable. Other locations could be reached through in-game transit on Customs or Factory. Most quests were unavailable at the start. The changes to economy and progression were intended to slow play. | PC Gamer’s launch report. |
| By July 15, 2025 | All locations were selectable again. The boss spawn chance had been reduced from the initial 100% to 70%. | PC Gamer’s follow-up describes the revisions by that date. |
| Subsequent official balancing notices; individual post dates not shown in the captured channel page | Battlestate said previously unavailable tasks and trader loyalty levels were being opened under their corresponding conditions, Ref cosmetic prices were reduced, and item insurance cost was cut in half. | Battlestate Games’ official Telegram channel. The page rendering does not establish the date of each mechanic-change post. |
The July 15 report also quoted Battlestate studio head Nikita Buyanov describing the gradual rollout: “we will gradually switch on features like traders [loyalty levels], locations and everything to simulate and slow down OG gameplay of Escape from Tarkov,” This explains the stated approach at the time; it does not prove that every planned feature was later implemented.

Why launch restrictions and later rules are easy to confuse
The wipe was a changing ruleset, not a single unaltered configuration. At launch, direct map selection was limited and most quests were missing. By July 15, the reported map-selection restriction had ended, while the boss spawn chance had already been lowered from its launch value. Official notices then described further unlocks and cost adjustments, but the captured posts do not provide dates for each change.
These figures describe the 2025 launch and reported revisions only. They should not be read as current Escape from Tarkov rules.

Was Hardcore Wipe an optional mode?
The reviewed coverage frames it as a wipe and update that changed game progression and rules. It does not establish whether the wipe was optional, nor whether the same rules applied to PvE. There is not enough evidence here to give a definitive answer on either point.
