If Epic Games Launcher on Windows asks you to install Epic Online Services (EOS), sign in and click OK in the prompt. If you dismissed it, open Launcher Settings, find Epic Online Services Install Available, and click Install Now. Approve the Windows User Account Control prompt if it appears, then wait for the installation-complete notice and EOS update process.
Why does Epic Games Launcher require Epic Online Services?
Epic says the local EOS component is a prerequisite for continuing to receive updates to Epic Games Launcher 14.2.0 or later on Windows. The launcher also uses EOS natively for updating and for keeping cross-platform and social features current in games that integrate those services. Epic describes this as a Windows launcher requirement; it does not establish that every Epic game or platform requires a separate EOS installation. EOS is a collection of services developers can choose to integrate across storefronts, platforms, and game engines. Depending on a game’s integration, EOS capabilities can include Epic account login, in-game purchasing, or a social overlay. Install EOS through Epic Games Launcher
- Open Epic Games Launcher and sign in.
- When the Install Epic Online Services prompt appears, click OK. If the prompt is not visible, open Settings, locate Epic Online Services Install Available, and click Install Now.
- If Windows displays User Account Control (UAC), allow the app to make changes. You may need administrator access.
- Wait for the installation-complete notification. EOS will start and run its update process.

If EOS will not install or the launcher says it is unavailable
Epic’s troubleshooting guidance recommends working through these steps in order. Epic Games Store Support: Epic Online Services is unavailable.
- Uninstall EOS: In Windows, open Control Panel > Programs and Features, select Epic Online Services, and uninstall it.
- Clear the launcher cache: Follow Epic’s cache-clearing instructions for the Epic Games Launcher, then reopen the launcher.
- Remove the EOS folder if the issue persists: Close the launcher and delete the Epic Online Services folder under
C:Program Files (x86)Epic Games. Reopen the launcher and check whether the problem is resolved. - Reinstall the launcher if needed: If EOS remains unavailable after those steps, Epic suggests reinstalling Epic Games Launcher.
If a game reports EOS connection errors
Epic says Windows may need updating when a game has EOS connection errors. Install available Windows updates and try again. If the issue continues, collect Epic Games Launcher logs and submit a support ticket to Epic. On a school, work, or otherwise shared computer, ask the administrator for help if you cannot approve the installation or make the required changes.

What the launcher installation does—and does not—mean
- It enables the Windows launcher prerequisite: The cited requirement concerns receiving launcher updates on Epic Games Launcher 14.2.0 or later.
- It is separate from game-specific integration: Individual developers choose which EOS services their games use, so features and behavior can differ by game.
- It is not a request for the developer tools: Players following the launcher prompt do not need to install the EOS SDK.
