Euro Truck Simulator 2: Beyond the Baltic Sea is a regional map expansion for players who want routes through Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, southern Finland and parts of western Russia. Its appeal is clearest if those destinations and regional scenery interest you; it adds a large advertised road network, cities and industries, plus a Finland-specific high-capacity truck configuration. Steam’s user-review snapshot was positive when checked, but the available figures do not establish how it compares with newer map DLC or whether it is good value at your local price.

What Beyond the Baltic Sea adds

Released on 29 November 2018, Beyond the Baltic Sea is downloadable content for Euro Truck Simulator 2, not a standalone game. Steam states that the base game is required to play it: Steam store listing.

The expansion covers Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, southern Finland, and parts of western Russia, including Saint Petersburg and Kaliningrad. SCS Software advertises more than 13,000 kilometres of new in-game roads, 24 major cities, smaller towns, and more than 30 local company docks and industries. These are publisher-stated feature counts, not an independent measure of route quality or variety. See the Steam product description and SCS Software factsheet.

Distinctive routes, scenery and driving features

A regional change of setting

SCS describes the expansion’s scenery in terms of low-lying green landscapes, lakes and rivers, pine and birch forests, Baltic architecture, landmarks and reminders of regional history. It also advertises local traffic and rail assets. These describe the publisher’s intended regional identity; they should not be mistaken for an independent assessment of how the map looks or feels in play.

High Capacity Transport in Finland

The expansion’s listed High Capacity Transport feature is specific to Finland: a tractor hauling two long trailers. It gives the Finnish routes a distinct vehicle configuration, rather than adding that feature throughout the expansion’s entire map.

What player reviews indicate

When accessed on 8 October 2026, Steam’s English-language listing showed 88% positive from 614 user reviews and labelled the rating “Very Positive.” This is a changing storefront snapshot, not a permanent score or a controlled comparison with other expansions. Steam also displays selected external review excerpts, including a 9/10 from Game-Debate and a 4/5 from PC Invasion; those selections are not a comprehensive review sample.

Who is likely to enjoy it?

Beyond the Baltic Sea is a more natural fit if your interest in ETS2 includes the Baltic states, southern Finland or western Russia, or if expanding your map routes and destinations is the main draw. Its advertised cities, industries and Finland-only trailer setup give you specific reasons to choose this region. If you are deciding between it and another map expansion, weigh the included geography and route coverage, destinations and industries, distinctive driving features, map age and detail, DLC dependencies, current regional price, and your interest in each region. Available evidence here does not establish a comparable gameplay or price ranking.

Base game, platforms and system requirements

The Steam listing says Euro Truck Simulator 2 on Steam is required. SCS’s factsheet lists Steam support for Windows, macOS, Linux and SteamOS. Check the current Steam listing for system requirements and compatibility, since those details can change with game updates.

Verdict

Beyond the Baltic Sea makes sense for ETS2 players who want its particular northern and Baltic geography, regional industries, and Finnish high-capacity transport. Steam’s dated review snapshot is encouraging, but it cannot answer how the expansion performs on your system, how its map compares with newer DLC, or whether its current price is worthwhile. Decide based on the region and features you want, then check the live Steam listing for compatibility and price.
