Both publications highlight the Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack as a key reason to notice Blaze Entertainment’s new handheld: it includes Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie on one cartridge, and the Nexus’s right analogue stick can control the camera in these 3D platformers.
What the Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack includes
The bundle reviewed by Time Extension and previewed by Tom’s Guide comes with one cartridge containing both Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. That gives the Nexus’s new dual-stick layout an immediate purpose: the right stick can handle camera movement, a useful option in games designed around exploring 3D spaces. Time Extension’s review calls the bundle a “Double Pack” and describes Banjo’s inclusion as the device’s “True Masterstroke.”

Tom’s Guide reports that the Evercade versions add control options, bonus content, and Stop ’n’ Swop functionality, along with a 60 fps target and improved resolution. Those are claims from its October 8, 2026 hands-on report, not independent performance test results. Tom’s Guide describes its article as an initial hands-on report and says a full review would follow.
What the Evercade Nexus changes
A bigger screen and dual analogue sticks
Time Extension lists the Nexus display as a 5.89-inch IPS panel with an 840×512 resolution. For comparison, the Evercade EXP has a 4.3-inch, 800×480 display. The Nexus offers more screen area, but Time Extension notes that its larger panel has lower effective pixel density, so bigger does not automatically mean a sharper image.
#1 Best Overall
- Evercade Nexus delivers classic retro gaming on the go! New sleek design with textured grips, dual analogue joysticks and the biggest, best Evercade screen to date. Complete Evercade cartridge library compatibility of over 80 cartridges and 700+ games.
- 5.89" 840x512 IPS high resolution screen with 500+ nit brightness, WiFi 6 2.4GHz/5GHz wireless connectivity for updates, Wireless headphone support. TATE mode for vertical screen play.
- EverSync wireless multiplayer allows multiple Nexus handhelds to directly connect and play together in supported games with no WiFi network required.
- Dual stereo sound with front-facing speakers, 5+ hours battery life with USB-C charging, 3.5mm headphone jack.
- Includes physical cartridge featuring brand new versions of the 64-bit hits, Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie from Rare. Comes with console, USB-C charging cable and physical game cartridge featuring Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. Note: Evercade Nexus does not connect to a TV.
The dual analogue sticks are another major change from the EXP. In the Banjo games, the right stick can control the camera, making the added control feel relevant rather than merely a specification. The system also retains physical Evercade cartridges, so existing library compatibility is part of the appeal for players who already own games on the platform.
Cartridge library figures vary by publication
Both publications describe a library of more than 700 games, but their cartridge counts differ. Time Extension reported more than 70 cartridges on October 8, 2026; Tom’s Guide reported more than 80. These are each outlet’s reported figures, not a single reconciled catalog total. Time Extension’s review and Tom’s Guide’s hands-on report provide their respective counts.

What reviewers say about the trade-offs
Time Extension’s 8/10 review describes the Nexus as a commendable upgrade, but says it does not bring a significant processing-power increase over the EXP or VS. The case for upgrading is therefore more about the screen, controls, and bundled games than a major leap in processing capability.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe same reviewer flags shoulder-trigger ergonomics during some play and considers the Nexus less portable than the EXP. Those are reviewer assessments, so comfort and portability may depend on how and where you play. The larger display may be welcome at home, while players prioritizing a smaller handheld may prefer the EXP’s form factor.

Is the Evercade Nexus worth it?
The Nexus looks most compelling for players who want the Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack, prefer a larger screen and dual analogue controls, or already collect Evercade cartridges. The camera control gives the Banjo bundle a clear connection to the hardware’s newest control feature.
It is a less obvious choice if you already own an EXP and are looking mainly for more processing power, or if compact portability is your priority. The reported pre-launch prices also place it above the EXP: Tom’s Guide listed $199 / £169, while TechRadar listed $199.99 / £169.99 / €199.99. Those are differing pre-launch reports published before the stated October 30, 2026 release date, not a verified current retailer price. For the Banjo ports, Blaze Entertainment head of communications Sean Cleaver told TechRadar that Rare shared source code and that the team found material including unreleased tracks and a level editor. He said those discoveries, alongside unlockable bonuses, helped add new content for players. TechRadar’s report attributes those comments to Cleaver.
