Affinity Missions are character-focused side quests that develop personal stories and Mira’s lore; some also offer rare gear or unlock playable characters. Their requirements can include level, prior missions, character affinity, equipment, and survey progress—not just story progress. The mission count reported by published guides is inconsistent, so the list below follows the 56-entry checklist in Destructoid’s guide rather than presenting that figure as settled.
Nintendo’s Definitive Edition page describes the Switch release and its added story elements. The checklist and requirements are from Destructoid’s Affinity Mission guide.
How to use this Affinity Mission checklist
Check every listed condition before going to a mission’s starting location. A level requirement by itself does not guarantee that the mission will appear: some missions also depend on completed quests, a particular heart level with a character, an accepted or inactive mission, Skell licensing, or how much of Mira you have surveyed.
Mission totals are not reconciled across the available guides. Destructoid reports 56, including four it describes as new to Definitive Edition; the Xenoblade Wiki search result reports 58, while Game8 results show both 56 and 59. Treat the total as disputed and use the in-game mission system to confirm your own completion status.

Every Affinity Mission: requirements and starting locations
The table below follows Destructoid’s 56-entry list. Requirements and locations are reproduced from that guide; where a condition is not included in the guide’s published details, it is marked as not stated rather than inferred. Consult the linked guide for its complete row-by-row checklist before using an unstated field as a signal that no condition exists.
| Mission | Level | Requirements and restrictions | Where to start |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Skell on the Block | 24 | Complete “Dark Matters”; obtain a Skell license. Associated with Liesel. | Administrative District, BLADE Concourse |
| Prospective Partners | 34 | Complete “Warriors of Wroth” and “Spy Games”; survey 18% of Mira. | BLADE Barracks |
| Bottoms Up | 19 | Complete “The Ganglion Menace”; accept the mission at night. | Not stated in Destructoid’s published guide details |
| A Girl’s Wings | 33 | Complete “Warriors of Wroth”; obtain a Skell license. | Not stated in Destructoid’s published guide details |
| To Serve Nopon | 52 | Complete “Into the Core” and “BFFs”; have “Sparking a Smile” active and “Trade Agreement” inactive; have four hearts with Lin. | Not stated in Destructoid’s published guide details |
Destructoid’s guide contains the broader mission list and starting-location/requirement details. Because Destructoid’s published guide provides full specifics only for the five examples above, it would be misleading to invent the remaining mission names, prerequisites, or locations here. Use the linked checklist for the full set of entries and verify their availability in the game.

Which Affinity Missions unlock playable characters?
Destructoid identifies these 13 playable characters as unlocked through Affinity Missions: H.B., Yelv, Phog, Hope, Tatsu, Alexa, Frye, Boze, Murderess, Neilnail, Liesel, Nagi, and Celica. The source does not independently establish a mission-by-mission mapping for all 13 in its published details, so check the individual rows in its guide for each character’s associated unlock.

Nintendo’s support history records that version 1.0.2 fixed an issue that could shut down the software during Skell flight in “A Girl’s Wings.” If the game crashes during that mission, check the installed software version and follow Nintendo’s software update instructions. The support history lists update 2.0.0, released February 19, 2026, as adding Nintendo Switch 2 Edition compatibility and making no changes to the Nintendo Switch version.
