Alola’s regional forms are familiar Pokémon reshaped by life in a different environment. This ranking covers the 18 Alolan forms of Kanto-origin species—not every Pokémon found in the Alola Pokédex—and orders them by visual distinctiveness, how clearly each design communicates adaptation, memorability, and the new identity it gives its original species. The order is subjective, not an official ranking or a measure of battle strength.
The Pokémon Company describes regional forms as Pokémon adapted to Alola’s distinctive natural environment. Its Pokédex treats regional forms as one part of the region’s broader Pokémon roster.
Every Alolan regional form, ranked
-
Alolan Exeggutor
The towering palm-tree silhouette is an instantly legible reinvention: it keeps Exeggutor’s distinctive heads while turning the original concept into something that feels unmistakably tropical. It is absurd in the best way, and its scale makes the redesign hard to forget.
-
Alolan Raichu
Raichu’s surfboard-like tail gives the form a playful new identity without losing the original’s friendly shape. The design’s central idea is clear at a glance, and its relaxed pose makes the change feel more substantial than a simple palette swap.

-
Alolan Marowak
The burning bone turns Marowak’s defining feature into the centerpiece of a more theatrical design. Its darker, more dramatic look is a strong departure from the original while still reading immediately as Marowak.
-
Alolan Ninetales
The elegant, pale palette suits Ninetales’ flowing silhouette, and the redesign feels like a cohesive new interpretation rather than a recolor. It preserves the original’s poise while giving it a crisp, wintry identity.
-
Alolan Sandslash
The icy spines and snow-ready appearance transform Sandslash’s familiar armored outline into something striking. The form keeps the original’s compact, defensive character, but its texture and palette make it feel entirely at home in a different environment.
-
Alolan Vulpix
Vulpix’s small, graceful shape translates especially well to its cool-toned redesign. The form is simple, but its soft palette and frosted appearance give the original an appealingly distinct identity.

- Bundle with an LCC deck box that holds upto 100 Pokemon cards
- 1 Double rare legendary Pokemon card
-
Alolan Muk
The vivid, layered colors make Muk look like a completely different kind of mess while preserving its amorphous silhouette. It is a bold visual change that turns a familiar sludge Pokémon into one of the most colorful designs in the set.
-
Alolan Sandslash’s pre-evolution: Alolan Sandshrew
Sandshrew’s rounded shape makes the icy redesign charming and readable. It does less with the concept than its evolution, but the cool palette and compact silhouette make the adaptation clear.
-
Alolan Persian
The exaggerated, rounded head gives Persian a strikingly different profile and a memorable dose of personality. It is an audacious change, even if the new proportions may be less elegant than the original’s sleek look.
-
Alolan Dugtrio
The three flowing blond locks give Dugtrio an unmistakable visual hook. It is a simple gag built around the form’s existing repeated heads, but that economy makes the redesign easy to recognize and remember.

-
Alolan Geodude
The darker stone and visible metallic accents give Geodude a more specific, mineral-like character. The shape remains close to the original, so the change is more about texture and detail than a wholesale reinvention.
-
Alolan Golem
The cannon-like feature on Golem’s back makes the form feel more mechanically imposing. It is a memorable addition to the familiar boulder-bodied shape, though the redesign does not communicate its new identity as cleanly as the strongest entries.
-
Alolan Graveler
Alolan Graveler’s altered rock surfaces and metallic details carry the Geodude line’s new look forward. The result is coherent, but it has fewer standout visual ideas than either end of its evolution line.
-
Alolan Raticate
The darker coat and bulkier appearance distinguish Raticate from its original form, and the redesign gives it a somewhat different presence. Its changes feel less surprising than the more inventive forms above it.

- This also comes with 2 Pokémon TCG booster packs.
- You will also receive 1 sticker sheet.
-
Alolan Rattata
The dark coloring and altered expression make Rattata’s new look easy to identify, but the redesign stays close to the original’s basic silhouette. It works as a regional variation without becoming one of the set’s most memorable transformations.
-
Alolan Diglett
The small metallic strands atop Diglett are a clever detail, but they do not change the familiar shape very much. The idea is amusing; the overall redesign is simply more restrained than the entries higher in the ranking.
-
Alolan Grimer
Grimer’s brighter colors offer a noticeable departure, but the design has less visual distinction than Alolan Muk’s. It reads as a variation on the original more than a fully realized new identity.
-
Alolan Meowth
The darker coloring and more self-satisfied expression establish a different attitude, but the core design remains largely familiar. The change is recognizable, though it has less visual impact than the strongest regional forms.

1 Random Pokemon Sun & Moon English Booster pack- Each pack contains 10 random Pokemon cards
- Over 140 cards to collect
- More than 40 never-before-seen Pokémon from the newly discovered Alola region
What counts as an Alolan regional Pokémon?
“Alolan Pokémon” can mean any Pokémon encountered in Alola, including species introduced for the region. This ranking uses the narrower meaning: regional forms of Kanto-origin species. The Pokémon Company’s official Pokédex identifies regional forms such as Exeggutor, Vulpix, Ninetales, Sandshrew, and Sandslash; the broader Alola roster also includes new species.
Regional forms are presented as adaptations to Alola’s natural environment, with differences in appearance and ecology. That premise is part of what makes the best designs work: they feel like new expressions of a familiar species rather than unrelated replacements. The English Sun and Moon overview likewise introduces Pokémon with a new Alolan style alongside newly discovered Pokémon.
How this ranking was judged
- Visual distinctiveness: Does the design have a memorable shape, palette, or defining feature?
- Readable adaptation: Does the changed look suggest a coherent response to a different environment?
- Memorability: Does the form remain recognizable and interesting after the first impression?
- New identity: Does the redesign give the familiar species a compelling new character while retaining a connection to the original?
Those criteria reward both reinvention and continuity. A form can rank highly by transforming its original concept, or by making a smaller change that feels especially cohesive. The order is a design judgment, not a statement about competitive usefulness; battle performance depends on the game and context.
