To unlock every Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio, progress the relevant Follower bond, meet the Archetype mastery requirements, and spend MAG to study the form. The game has 14 Archetype lineages, and some open multiple advanced forms. An Archetype is a combat role; unlocking a form in a lineage is not the same as every party member learning it. In most cases, the character who wants to use the new form must meet its mastery prerequisites.
Below is a progression reference for all Archetypes and where to unlock them, including starting lineages, advanced requirements, and MAG costs. The listed MAG amounts are guide-reported base costs; Follower bond benefits can reduce them. Royal Archetypes are late-game story spoilers, so stop before that section if you want to avoid them.

How Archetype unlocking and studying work
Unlocking a lineage makes its Archetypes available to study through the associated Follower. To study a particular form, meet its Follower Bond Rank gate and any listed Archetype mastery requirements, then pay the MAG cost. Bond Rank and Archetype mastery rank are separate systems: for example, “More 3” means More’s Follower Bond Rank 3, while “Seeker 20” means Seeker mastery rank 20.
Mastery requirements generally apply to the party member who will learn the form. A prerequisite met by one character does not automatically satisfy it for another. Soul Hacker is a special case: its requirement is to study 25 distinct Archetypes across the party. Story progress, quests, and locations can also hold up a Follower rank or form even after the combat prerequisites are complete.

There are seven Royal Archetypes in addition to Prince. Each is exclusive to the named character. The bond and mastery conditions below are the listed requirements; the six party-member forms each have a 30,000 MAG base cost. Push Square provides the individual requirements, while PC Gamer reports the seven Royal forms beyond Prince.

When a listed Archetype is still locked
- Check both kinds of rank. Confirm the relevant Follower Bond Rank and the required Archetype mastery ranks separately.
- Check the character who is learning it. A party member’s prerequisite ranks do not unlock the form for everyone else.
- Check cross-lineage requirements. Advanced forms may require mastery in a different lineage, not just the form directly before them.
- Check story and location gates. Follower progression can be delayed until later story events, quests, or locations; Martial Artist specifically requires reaching Altabury Heights.
- Check the in-game study screen. The tables reflect guide-reported requirements; if an update or edition displays a different condition, use the current in-game requirement. MAG reductions from Follower benefits may also make the displayed cost lower than the base value above.
