As of October 8, 2026, Epic has not announced its 2026 Holiday Sale game list. The latest completed edition was the 2025 Holiday Sale, which ran from December 11, 2025, to January 8, 2026. A fully verified year-by-year inventory is not established by the available sources, so the examples below are identified as archive records rather than a complete list.
What counts as an Epic Games Store Holiday Sale free game?
This guide treats a game as part of a holiday period when its recorded claim window falls within the end-of-year promotion, including offers that run into January. That is different from listing every weekly free game Epic gave away during a calendar year. Epic’s weekly program continues separately from the seasonal sale, and annual totals for all giveaways cannot be used as holiday-only totals.

What free games did Epic give away for Christmas?
The following are dated examples recorded in a third-party archive, not a complete or independently verified inventory of each holiday season. Windows are reproduced as listed by the archive; the source does not provide time zones for these entries. A claim period can include more than one title, and a listed bundle or edition may differ from a base game.

| 2020–21 | Jurassic World Evolution | December 31, 2020–January 7, 2021 |
| 2019–20 | Hello Neighbor | December 30, 2019–January 6, 2020 |
These records come from FreeGames’ historical index. Its annual giveaway counts cover the entire calendar year, not just the Holiday Sale. They should not be treated as verified seasonal totals. The archive is a useful dated reference, but these entries alone do not establish every offer in any season.
What was confirmed for the 2025 Holiday Sale?
Epic’s 2025 guide identified Hogwarts Legacy as the first holiday offer it discussed, free through December 18, 2025, at 11 AM ET. The guide also described a promotion-specific Fortnite Chocolate Frog cosmetic reward: players had to complete at least two hours of playtime by the deadline, and the reward could take 24–48 hours to appear after playtime was confirmed. Those conditions applied to that promotion, not to holiday giveaways generally.

For the 2024 season, Dot Esports’ guide to the Holiday Sale giveaways describes the daily giveaway period as starting December 19 and says the article would be updated as games were revealed. A complete, verified inventory and claim windows for that season are not established here, so the examples above should not be mistaken for its full list.
How long do you have to claim an Epic free game?
It depends on the offer. Epic’s support page says the ordinary weekly free game is available for seven days, with new weekly offers available Thursdays at 8 AM PT. Holiday promotions may use different claim windows, including short daily offers; check the specific offer’s end time rather than assuming the weekly schedule applies.

Do Epic free games stay in your library?
Epic says a game claimed during its free offer remains in your library permanently, even if you do not download it at once. Claiming requires an Epic account with two-factor authentication enabled. See Epic Player Support’s weekly free game guidance for the account and offer details.

Quick Recap
Best Value
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device.
