The best all-around 2025 Commander precon is Counter Blitz, if you value a distinct, flexible game plan that can work straight from the box. That is my ranking, not an official verdict: Draftsim also placed Counter Blitz first, while EDHREC’s shorter 2025 list elevated Mardu Surge. This ranking weighs how cleanly a deck carries out its plan, how much setup it needs, how well it can recover, and how much room it gives players to shape it; reprints and casual-table appeal also count.
There were 13 standard mass-market Commander precons across four 2025 product lines. “Every” here means those widely released decks, not every specialty product: EDHREC notes that the Secret Lair deck Everyone’s Invited was technically a 2025 precon, but it sits outside the usual mass-market comparison.
All 13 2025 Commander precons, ranked
The order below is an editorial assessment of the decks’ intended plans and published descriptions, not a claim based on firsthand playtesting. A precon’s ranking is not a guarantee of power in every playgroup: table speed, opponents’ strategies, and upgrades all change how a deck performs.
-
Counter Blitz — Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY
Counter Blitz takes the top spot for a distinctive identity and a clear customization hook: Tidus’s counter-moving design. Draftsim’s December 2025 ranking also put it first, describing it as novel, strong out of the box, and customizable. The counter theme gives the deck a more individual angle than a generic attack-or-ramp plan, while leaving room for a player to tune how its pieces interact.

-
Mardu Surge — Tarkir: Dragonstorm
Mardu Surge ranks second for offering a compelling clan identity and a place near the top of at least one independent year-end list: EDHREC ranked it fifth in its October 2025 top five. That is a different, shorter selection rather than a direct ranking of all 13 decks, but it is a useful reminder that another editor may prize a different mix of theme and play pattern.
-
Scions & Spellcraft — Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY
Scions & Spellcraft earns a high place for its strong tie to Final Fantasy XIV and the promise of a spell-focused strategy. The Final Fantasy decks were described by Draftsim’s author as solid out of the box apart from Mardu Surge, though individual preferences and table conditions can shift that assessment.
-
Abzan Armor — Tarkir: Dragonstorm
Abzan Armor’s clan alignment gives it a readily understandable identity within Tarkir’s five-deck release. Its place in the middle of the ranking reflects a balance: a recognizable theme is a strength, but the available evidence does not establish a reason to put it above the more distinctive plans higher on this list.
Rank #2

-
Temur Roar — Tarkir: Dragonstorm
Temur Roar benefits from representing the Temur clan, and its energy commander attracted explicit interest from players, according to EDHREC. That enthusiasm is relevant to the deck’s appeal, though it is not itself evidence of superior consistency or power.

Jeskai Striker — Tarkir: Dragonstorm
Jeskai Striker is one of five clan-themed Tarkir decks built around new cards and reprints. It lands here as a solid option for players drawn to the Jeskai identity, without enough comparative evidence to call it a clear top-tier or bottom-tier choice.
-
Limit Break — Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY
Limit Break focuses on equipment and aggression. Draftsim placed it eighth and characterized its plan as straightforward and potentially beginner-friendly. A direct, attack-oriented strategy can be easier to grasp than a deck with a more layered engine, though straightforward does not mean every table or player will prefer it.
Rank #3

-
Counter Intelligence — Edge of Eternities
Counter Intelligence rounds out the two-deck Edge of Eternities release. The official product page notes new cards and rare dual lands among the set’s contents. Its position here is a modest middle-lower placement, not a statement that the deck lacks useful cards or cannot be improved.
-
Living Energy — Aetherdrift
Living Energy leans into energy and artifacts. Draftsim ranked it ninth, calling its approach familiar alongside earlier energy and artifact decks, while pointing to reprints including Academy Ruins, Panharmonicon, Conjurer’s Closet, Arcane Denial, and Lightning Greaves. That reprint appeal can matter to a buyer even if novelty is not the deck’s strongest point.

World Shaper — Edge of Eternities
World Shaper combines landfall and sacrifice themes. Draftsim ranked it tenth, criticizing the mix as less cohesive while praising individual cards and Hearthhull as a possible build-around. That split assessment makes it a more interesting choice for someone who expects to reshape the list than for a buyer seeking the cleanest single plan immediately.
Rank #4
Magic: The Gathering Foundations Commander Deck - Keen Engineering | 100-Card Deck + Accessories- WELCOME TO THE MULTIVERSE—The perfect way to start playing Commander with your friends. Bring this 100-card deck to the table and square off against up to three other combatants!

-
Revival Trance — Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY
Revival Trance represents Final Fantasy VI among the four Final Fantasy decks. It is a reasonable thematic pick for fans of that game, but the cited comparative coverage does not single it out as a standout in consistency, flexibility, or reprint value.
-
Eternal Might — Aetherdrift
Eternal Might is Aetherdrift’s graveyard-and-mummy-themed deck. Its unusual theme may be the main draw for players who want something different, but the available rankings do not establish a stronger all-around case than the decks above it.
-
Sultai Arisen — Tarkir: Dragonstorm
Sultai Arisen completes Tarkir’s five clan decks. It ranks last here because the available evidence offers less support for elevating it on plan clarity, flexibility, or distinguishing reprint appeal—not because a low placement proves it is unplayable. A player who loves its clan identity may still find it the most appealing purchase.

What counts as a 2025 precon in this ranking?
The 13 decks came in four release waves. Wizards announced the listed release dates and deck lineups for each product:
| Product line | Release date | Decks |
|---|---|---|
| Aetherdrift | February 14, 2025 | Living Energy; Eternal Might |
| Tarkir: Dragonstorm | April 11, 2025 | Abzan Armor; Jeskai Striker; Sultai Arisen; Mardu Surge; Temur Roar |
| Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY | June 13, 2025 | Revival Trance; Limit Break; Counter Blitz; Scions & Spellcraft |
| Edge of Eternities | August 1, 2025 | World Shaper; Counter Intelligence |
Wizards described Aetherdrift’s decks as ready-to-play 100-card decks with two traditional foil commanders and ten new-to-Magic cards. Tarkir: Dragonstorm offered five clan-themed decks with new cards and reprints. Edge of Eternities’ official page described a Collector Booster Sample Pack and 12 new cards, including borderless foil cards and new rare dual lands. These are product-line descriptions; check the listing for the specific deck and edition for its exact contents.
How to choose the right deck for you
- Choose Counter Blitz if a distinctive counter-moving plan and customization potential matter most to you.
- Choose Limit Break if an equipment-and-aggression approach sounds appealing and you want a comparatively direct plan.
- Choose World Shaper if you are interested in its landfall and sacrifice ingredients and are open to reshaping the deck around a preferred direction.
- Choose by setting if a particular game or Tarkir clan is your priority; thematic fit can be more important to your enjoyment than a general ranking.
- Compare the sealed decklists before buying if reprints or specific cards matter to you. A ranking cannot tell you whether a particular card is worth its price to your collection.
Prices and stock vary by retailer and over time. Confirm that a listing is for the named sealed 2025 Commander deck, and check whether it is a standard or special edition before purchasing.
