To join a sect in Where Winds Meet, open the Sects menu, select a faction, and follow its current Entry Clue through the required quest, trial, and final NPC conversation. Then check the Sects panel to confirm membership. The latest detailed roster guide located is for Global Version 2.2, published 17 September 2026; it describes seven sects in detail and names four more whose availability has varied. Treat the live Entry Clue in your own client as the final authority.
How do I join a sect in Where Winds Meet?
- Open the Sects menu once it is available in your current progression.
- Select a sect and read its Entry Clue, prerequisites, rules, and rewards.
- Track the clue and go to the NPC or location it identifies.
- Complete the sect-specific quest, trial, or interaction chain. Requirements differ by sect and can change between updates.
- If the quest directs you back to an NPC, finish the conversation, then check the Sects panel for confirmed membership, standing, and tasks.
Viewing an Entry Clue or completing one activity may not complete admission: follow the quest to its endpoint. General joining guidance describes this menu-to-clue-to-trial flow; see the Where Winds Meet handbook and the 2 April 2026 Dexerto guide. The latter says sect access opens at level 10, but that threshold is version-sensitive, not a universal current requirement. The more recent Global Version 2.2 roster gives different prerequisites by entry, and Mohist Hill is tied to Hidden Mountain progression.
Which sects can I join in the current version?
The detailed roster below reflects a guide published 17 September 2026 for Global Version 2.2 — Perilous Eminence, not an official live roster confirmation. It provides details for seven sects. The other four names have appeared in sect listings, but their availability has varied between versions. Check which Entry Clues your client currently shows before treating any route as open.
| Sect | What it is known for | Admission pointer in the Global 2.2 guide |
|---|---|---|
| Well of Heaven | Righteousness and cooperation, with a rule against harming fellow members; associated with Thundercry Blade. | Speak to San Qian’er in Harvestfall Village, Qinghe. An older route describes an Easy Street/Ill-gotten Gains path; follow the current clue if it differs. |
| Silver Needle | Healer-oriented, associated with Panacea Fan and Inkwell Fan. Its rules include charging for treatment and helping other players. | Find Doctor Yuan in the Moonveil Mountain area after the Healer-Initiate prerequisite, then complete the Three Questions trial. |
| Midnight Blades | PvP-oriented: defeating other players earns Karma, while being defeated can reduce it. | Find the muttering monk at Halo Peak in Sundara Land and follow the entry route shown by the clue. |
| Nine Mortal Ways | Tricks, disguise, and social mischief; failed tricks or jail can cost Virtue. | Follow its Entry Clue to the entry quest. An older guide describes an altered Easy Street route, which may not match the current client. |
| Velvet Shade | Social and relationship-themed; associated with Vernal Umbrella. | The guide describes level/story and partnership steps involving Shi Yimo. Check the current clue rather than assuming those specific steps or timing remain unchanged. |
| Raging Tides | Military identity and spear or blade martial arts, with a weekly drinking requirement. | The 17 September 2026 guide describes level 10 in Solo Mode and a nine-wine trial at Northern Vow Ruins in Qinghe’s Verdant Wilds. Verify both details in your client. |
| Mohist Hill | Engineering, research, building, mentorship, and craftsmanship, with apprentice ranks. | Its route is associated with Hidden Mountain progression. Follow the live sect clue; the detailed route in secondary guides may not reflect current requirements. |
Other sect names whose availability may vary
- The Masked Troupe: performance and stage personas. Its availability has varied; join only if the current client provides an Entry Clue.
- Hollow Vale: listed in connection with Soulshade Umbrella, but a current admission route is not established in the cited roster.
- The Inkbound Order: a scholarship-themed listed name; the cited roster does not establish a current route.
- Lone Cloud: named in sect listings, with no current route established in the cited roster.
The official 19 July 2026 Hidden Mountain developer letter confirms Mohist Hill’s debut and describes its philosophy as “Utility, Universal Love, and Non-Aggression.” It says, “Your journey in Mohist Hill begins as an apprentice.” That announcement establishes the sect’s identity, not a complete current roster or an always-valid admission walkthrough.

Which sect should I choose?
Choose by the activities and obligations you are willing to take on, not by an assumed best-in-slot ranking. The Global Version 2.2 guide suggests these playstyle matches:
- Silver Needle: healer play and helping other players.
- Well of Heaven: cooperative melee or tank-style play, with a brotherhood rule against harming members.
- Raging Tides: spear or heavy-blade play if its drinking precept suits you.
- Mohist Hill: interest in Gauntlets, engineering, or Hidden Mountain construction systems.
- Midnight Blades: open-world PvP.
- Nine Mortal Ways: pranks and deception.
- Velvet Shade: social play.
Read the rules and recurring tasks before accepting. The cited guide describes sect shops, rank rewards, and cheaper learning of associated Martial Arts, but those benefits do not establish that a sect is required to obtain a particular art: Martial Arts may have other acquisition routes, including Skill Theft. Check the specific art’s current entry in game.

Do I have to join a sect?
No. Sects are optional factions, and remaining Sectless is a valid choice if you prefer not to follow faction rules or recurring tasks. A sect is not the same as a player guild, career, or weapon choice. You can develop a combat build before deciding whether a faction’s activities and rewards fit your play.
What to check before leaving or switching
Review unfinished tasks, unclaimed rewards, and the current departure confirmation before leaving. An April 2026 guide reports that leaving can reset rank, remove shop access, require a severance trial, or impose a rejoining cooldown, but the effects may vary by sect and update. Use the leave screen in your current client rather than assuming every consequence applies to every faction.

Why your sect route may not match a guide
- The sect is listed but unavailable: the 2.2 roster names four factions whose availability has varied. A name in a guide or menu list is not proof that its entry route is currently open.
- The clue or NPC does not match: guides can describe older routes. Use the Entry Clue shown in your current client over a route from an earlier version.
- A prerequisite is missing: progress the story or satisfy the requirement shown in the clue. Requirements differ between factions; Mohist Hill is associated with Hidden Mountain progression.
- The quest seems complete but membership is absent: check whether the quest directs you back to an NPC for a final conversation, then verify admission in the Sects panel.
The handbook’s general advice is to inspect entry requirements, obligations, rewards, and departure conditions in game; its balance version is unverified. Exact availability and mechanics can change, so the live client is the practical source for your character’s route.
