There are seven games under the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw name, from the 2004 debut to SmackDown vs. Raw 2011, which launched in 2010. Ranked by how much each game offers, how meaningfully it advances wrestling gameplay and creation, and the reception evidence available, the order is: 2008, 2009, 2004, 2010, 2011, 2007, and 2006. This is an editorial ranking, not a settled fan consensus; the middle spots are particularly open to debate.
How this ranking works
The series catalog counts seven branded entries and names SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006 its highest-rated game. That provides a useful anchor, but no single score can fairly rank all seven: sources use different aggregates, and the figures available here do not cover every title on a consistent platform and review scale. The ranking weighs documented features and changes alongside the reception evidence that is available. Fan attachment is personal, not a universal measure.

Where scores appear below, the source and platform are identified. A catalog score and a Metacritic score should not be read as interchangeable measurements.
7. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008
2008 comes last in this ranking because its additions make a less compelling overall case against the stronger feature steps elsewhere in the series—not because it brought nothing new. WWE’s retrospective credits it with adding ECW to the Raw and SmackDown rosters, more weapons, and WWE 24/7 mode.
#1 Best Overall
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
The Tier catalog lists a 64/100 critic score, while Metacritic’s PS2 page reports 71. Those are different aggregates, not competing readings of one universal score. The game’s ECW expansion and 24/7 mode are real additions, but this ranking gives more weight to entries whose changes reshaped modes, controls, or match interaction more substantially.
6. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009
2009 is an important game for tag-team fans, even in a lower comparative position. WWE’s retrospective says, “For gamers, 2009 was the year of the tag team,” and describes a major tag-match overhaul alongside the series’ first co-op story mode. The game also introduced Road to WrestleMania, Inferno Match, and Create-A-Finisher.
Those are significant additions. Its placement reflects the overall ranking’s balance of innovation and breadth, rather than a claim that 2009 lacked ambition. Put tag-team play or cooperative storytelling first and this entry can reasonably move higher.
Rank #2
- Disc only. Original case and manual not included. Will come packaged in a generic case.
- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
5. WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw (2004)
The 2004 game introduced the SmackDown vs. Raw branding, launching on PS2 in North America on November 2, 2004. Metacritic reports 80/100 from 46 critic reviews and an 8.1/10 user score from 80 ratings for its PS2 page. The Tier catalog separately lists 71/100, a figure that should not be conflated with Metacritic’s result.
That favorable Metacritic reception and foundational role make a low-middle placement a judgment call. It lands here because this list prioritizes the added mode and feature depth of later entries over the importance of being first.
4. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010
2010 makes a strong case for players who value customization and tools for shaping their own wrestling world. WWE highlights a rebuilt creation system, WWE Story Designer, a training tutorial, and a new grappling system.
Rank #3
- Videogame Console Software XBox 360 Games
Scores vary by source and platform: the Tier catalog lists 65/100, while Metacritic’s surfaced pages give the PS3 version 81 and the Xbox 360 version 80. These figures come from different sources and should not be treated as one scale or sample. Its creation-focused improvements put it ahead of the earlier entries in this ranking, while the next game offers a more direct advance in how objects and the arena affect a match.
3. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011
Marketed as 2011, the final game under the brand was released in 2010. WWE describes a roster of more than 70 Superstars and Divas and a new physics system that made foreign objects more interactive. It also reports changes to Hell in a Cell, including weapons under the ring and the ability to throw opponents through the cell wall.
The Tier catalog lists a 70/100 score. The documented physics and match changes give 2011 a strong case near the top, especially for players who want objects and environments to matter more during a bout.
Rank #4
- Play a new set of WWE Legends -- classic characters like Andre the Giant
- Incredible graphics update make all the action more amazing -- and make the bra & panties match more realistic
- Match Tactics lets players choose to fight dirty or play to the crowd
- Season Mode with new storylines, bigger double-crosses and over-the-top surprises
- Create your own Championship and then put it on the line against your friends in a fully customizable PPV event
2. WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007
2007 stands out for changing how players moved through matches and used the arena. It introduced analog-stick controls, interactive hotspots, and the ability to fight in the crowd. The series catalog lists 78/100.
Its reception was not uniformly glowing: the entry records praise for presentation and content as well as complaints about collision detection and glitches. Its high ranking reflects the significance of its control and arena-interaction shift, not a claim that every player will prefer the new controls or that every version received the same response.
1. WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2006
2006 takes the top spot with the clearest support in the available series-wide reception evidence: the Tier catalog identifies it as the franchise’s highest-rated entry, at 80/100. It also adds features with lasting appeal, including General Manager mode, Create-An-Entrance, and new match types. The reference entry describes it as the series’ best-selling PS2 title.
Best Value
- A roster of more than 70 of today's prominent WWE Superstars and WWE Divas as well as a virtual WWE experience with more than 100 match types and an extensive number of new playable arenas
- Game modes including the story-driven, Road to WrestleMania mode and WWE Universe Mode, which empowers players more than ever to define their ultimate gameplay experiences in a dynamic and ever-changing WWE
- A variety of upgrades to the gameplay experience ensures that all matches and object interactions look and feel unique, dynamic and unpredictable to capture the full essence and authenticity of WWE
- A creation interface including more options than ever to customize created Superstars, their finishing moves, story designs, paint tool creations and more
- Searching, sharing and downloading content is greatly simplified through improvements to the WWE Community Creations feature
The combination of a leading catalog rating and broad mode additions makes it the strongest choice for number one in this ranking. That case rests on documented reception and features, not a claim of a firsthand comparison across every game.
How the series changed over time
- 2004–2006: The brand begins with the 2004 game, then 2006 expands the package with General Manager mode, entrance creation, and new match types.
- 2007: Analog-stick controls and crowd fighting make arena interaction a defining change.
- 2008–2009: 2008 adds ECW and 24/7 mode; 2009 makes tag-team play and co-op storytelling central additions.
- 2010–2011: The later games emphasize player-made stories and creation tools, followed by more reactive object physics and revised Hell in a Cell action.
Why fans may rank them differently
The feature arc supports an informed order, not a definitive one. A player focused on co-op may push 2009 upward; someone who values creation may favor 2010; and nostalgia or preferred controls can outweigh review aggregates altogether. A fan discussion of the THQ-era games likewise frames the order as a question for players rather than a settled ranking.
For anyone comparing the games by scores, the main limitation is coverage: the available figures do not establish a same-platform, same-aggregator score for all seven. For example, the Tier catalog gives the 2004 entry 71/100 while Metacritic’s PS2 page gives it 80/100 from 46 critic reviews; for 2008, the catalog lists 64/100 while Metacritic reports 71 for PS2. Treat those as source-specific figures, not a directly comparable seven-game table.
