Nintendo’s September 12, 2025 Direct mixed new game reveals, updates, paid DLC and Super Mario Bros. anniversary news for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Highlights included Pokémon Pokopia, the Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC, Donkey Kong Bananza’s DK Island and Emerald Rush DLC, and several Resident Evil games. This is an archive of that 2025 presentation, not a guide to Nintendo’s current latest Direct.

What Nintendo announced

Nintendo’s official recap described a slate from Nintendo and publishing partners, alongside news marking 40 years of Super Mario Bros. The original game launched in Japan on September 13, 1985, according to Nintendo.

For a broad overview, Nintendo’s official event page and official recap are the primary references. TechRadar reported that the presentation ran roughly 60 minutes; that is its reported duration, not an independently measured runtime.

Super Mario Bros. anniversary

  • Nintendo announced The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and brought Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 to Switch.
  • Other Mario-related announcements included Mario Tennis Fever and a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

New games and major updates

  • Pokémon Pokopia received a first look. Nintendo’s recap listed a 2026 launch window; that was the window announced in 2025, not a statement of current availability.
  • Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Kirby Air Riders were among the other named games.
  • Nintendo highlighted new Mega Evolutions and the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
  • Donkey Kong Bananza received paid DLC called DK Island and Emerald Rush. Nintendo’s event page also noted two new Kirby Air Riders amiibo figures.

Partner games and Resident Evil

  • Partner highlights in Nintendo’s recap included Hades II, Suika Game Planet and Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.
  • Nintendo’s event page featured Resident Evil Requiem. TechRadar’s September 12, 2025 roundup additionally listed Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Gold Edition and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition for Switch and Switch 2, with February 27, 2026 given as their release date in that historical report.

How to read the platform and release details

The Direct covered both Switch and Switch 2, but not every announcement applies to both systems. Nintendo’s event page separates out Switch 2 announcements, while TechRadar’s archived roundup organizes its coverage into anniversary news, Switch games and Switch 2 games. Check the individual game listing for supported hardware and its current release or availability status; a platform mention in the event recap alone does not establish that every title is playable on both consoles.

#1 Best Overall
Nintendo Switch 2 System
  • The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
  • One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
  • Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
  • Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
  • GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play

Also distinguish a full game from an add-on or accessory. Pokémon Pokopia and the other named games are game announcements; Mega Dimension and DK Island and Emerald Rush are DLC, and Nintendo explicitly described the Donkey Kong Bananza DLC as paid. The Kirby Air Riders amiibo are figures, not games. Availability, compatibility and purchase requirements can differ by item.

What “latest” means in this headline

“Latest” refers to the Direct covered by TechRadar’s live report, updated September 12, 2025. It is not a claim that this remains Nintendo’s newest presentation as of October 4, 2026. TechRadar’s headline also refers to live reactions, but the useful enduring record is the dated announcement roundup and Nintendo’s official event materials.
