The current official configuration reference documents CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac), so the frequently repeated claim that Steam and Xbox cannot play together is outdated. The main limitation is how Xbox players connect: they cannot enter a server IP manually and must find the server through the in-game Community server list.
This guide covers the current server setup, cross-play configuration, connection methods, administration commands, and the settings most likely to affect an Xbox-and-PC world.

Palworld Xbox–PC cross-play: what works now
Palworld’s official server documentation says that co-op cross-play is available. Dedicated and community servers support cross-play for Steam, Xbox Series consoles, the Windows PC version downloaded from the Microsoft Store, and macOS. The newer configuration reference, listed as Version 1.0.2, also includes PS5 in the default platform list.
For an Xbox-and-PC group, the practical distinction is not whether cross-play exists, but which server type you use and how each platform joins it:
#1 Best Overall
- The infinite possibilities in Minecraft just got bigger; The gaming phenomenon is coming to the console for the first time exclusively to Xbox 360
- The new crafting interface in Minecraft for Xbox 360 delivers a completely new way to build Minecraft worlds where your imagination is the only limit
- Full featured Tutorial mode to teach the basics and help master essential skills faster
- Social Multiplayer – up to 4 player split screen on one console, share the experience for the first time from the comfort of your couch
- Play Minecraft for Xbox 360 with Friends over Xbox LIVE, combine split screen and Xbox LIVE play in any combination up to 8 players
- Dedicated server: the world runs independently of a player’s game client. The host does not need to leave Palworld running.
- Community server: a dedicated server registered to appear in Palworld’s in-game server browser. This is the required route for Xbox players joining a self-hosted server.
Steam players on platforms that expose direct connection can enter a server’s IP address and port in the connection field below the server list. Xbox players cannot use that method. They must select Community server on the left side of the server list, find the server, and select it.
See Palworld’s official server overview and the official connection instructions.
The outdated Xbox setting to avoid
An older official Xbox guide, labeled Version 0.4.15, tells administrators to use:
[/Script/Pal.PalGameWorldSettings]
OptionSettings=(AllowConnectPlatform=Xbox)
That is legacy guidance. The current Version 1.0.2 configuration reference explicitly marks AllowConnectPlatform as unavailable and says to use CrossplayPlatforms instead.
Use the current setting:
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac)
If your server is intended only for Xbox and Steam players, configure the allowed platform list according to the current reference rather than copying the old AllowConnectPlatform=Xbox example. Older guides may also repeat the claim that Steam and Xbox cannot cross-play; that reflected the earlier documentation, not the current platform setting.
Because the official documentation contains pages from different versions, check the current Version 1.0.2 configuration reference before adopting any parameter from an older tutorial.

How to host a Palworld server for Xbox and PC
Option 1: Launch the dedicated server through Steam
On a PC with Palworld’s server files available through Steam, launch the normal dedicated server by selecting Play Palworld Dedicated Server. To register it as a community server—the mode Xbox players need—select Open and start as a community server.
The community-server startup option is also available from the command line:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Windows
PalServer.exe -publiclobby
Linux
./PalServer.sh -publiclobby
Keep the PalServer portion unchanged; add -publiclobby as the startup option. Without community-server registration, Xbox players have neither direct IP entry nor the required server-browser route.
Official deployment instructions: dedicated server and community server.
Option 2: Install the server with SteamCMD
On Windows or Linux, download or update the Palworld dedicated-server files with:
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2394010 validate +quit
Start the server from these directories:
Windows
cd .steamappscommonPalServer
PalServer.exe
Linux
cd ~/Steam/steamapps/common/PalServer
./PalServer.sh
To make the SteamCMD server discoverable to Xbox users, append -publiclobby to the executable or script as shown above.

Configure the server correctly
1. Start the server once
Palworld creates the server-generated configuration directories only after the server has been started once. Start it, allow the initial files to be created, then stop it before editing the settings.
2. Copy the default configuration
Do not edit DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini directly. Copy it to the platform-specific live configuration file.
Windows:
Copy-Item steamappscommonPalServerDefaultPalWorldSettings.ini steamappscommonPalServerPalSavedConfigWindowsServerPalWorldSettings.ini
Edit:
steamappscommonPalServerPalSavedConfigWindowsServerPalWorldSettings.ini
Linux:
cp steamapps/common/PalServer/DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini steamapps/common/PalServer/Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini
Edit:
steamapps/common/PalServer/Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/PalWorldSettings.ini
3. Set cross-play and community-server details
Confirm that the live configuration contains the current cross-play parameter:
CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac)
The configuration reference also lists settings including ServerName, ServerDescription, ServerPassword, ServerPlayerMaxNum, PublicIP, and PublicPort.
Important: PublicPort specifies the external public port advertised for a community server. It does not change the server’s listening port. Treat advertised and listening ports as separate settings when checking connectivity.
How Xbox and PC players join
Xbox
- Launch Palworld.
- Open the multiplayer/server-list screen.
- Select Community server on the left.
- Locate the registered server.
- Select or click the server to join.
Xbox cannot connect by manually entering an IP address, so a self-hosted server must be publicly registered as a community server.

- Play and unlock more than 150 characters with amazing powers and abilities, including members of the Justice League, and BIG LEGO Figures such as Cyborg, Solomon Grundy and more.

PC
PC players can use the community-server browser as well. On platforms that expose direct dedicated-server connection, the official connection page says to enter the server’s IP address and port in the form below the server list. That generic direct-connection instruction does not override the Xbox restriction.
Settings that matter for an Xbox-and-PC world
| Setting | What it controls | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
CrossplayPlatforms |
Which platforms may join | Use the current platform-list syntax; do not use the obsolete AllowConnectPlatform. |
ServerPlayerMaxNum |
Total player capacity | Sets how many players can join the server. |
GuildPlayerMaxNum |
Players in one guild | This is separate from the server-wide player cap. |
bIsPvP |
Player-versus-player mode | Enable only if the group wants PvP. |
bEnableVoiceChat |
In-game voice chat | Controls voice chat availability. |
bAllowClientMod |
Whether modded clients may join | Restrictive settings can prevent some PC players from connecting. |
ServerPassword |
Join password | Useful for private groups, but players still need the correct server-list route on Xbox. |
World size and processing load
BaseCampMaxNum controls the total number of bases across the server. BaseCampMaxNumInGuild controls bases per guild, defaults to 4, and has a documented maximum of 10. BaseCampWorkerMaxNum controls the maximum number of Pals assigned to a base and has a documented maximum of 50.
Increasing these limits raises processing load. Do not increase them simply because the settings exist; scale them to the server hardware and the number of active players.
Death penalties
DeathPenalty accepts four documented values:
None: no drops.Item: drop items except equipment.ItemAndEquipment: drop items and equipment. All: drop all items and all Pals on the team.
Backups
Enabling bIsUseBackupSaveData creates a backup directory in the save-data directory. The documented backup schedule is 5 save data per 30 seconds, 6 per 10 minutes, 12 per hour, and 7 per day. Backups are particularly valuable for a persistent cross-platform world because the server continues independently of any one player’s game client.
Give yourself administrator access
First set AdminPassword in the server configuration. Once inside the game, press Enter, type the command below with the password you chose, and submit it:
/AdminPassword <password you set>
The current documented commands include:
/Shutdown [Seconds] [MessageText]
/DoExit
/Broadcast <MessageText>
/KickPlayer <SteamID>
/BanPlayer <SteamID>
/TeleportToPlayer <SteamID>
/TeleportToMe <SteamID>
/ShowPlayers
/Info
/Save
/UnBanPlayer <SteamID>
/ToggleSpectate
/Shutdown can delay the shutdown by a specified number of seconds and display a message. /DoExit force-stops the server. Use /Save for an explicit save, and /Broadcast to notify players before maintenance.

The moderation and teleport commands require a <SteamID> argument in the official reference, even when the connected player is using another platform. Use /ShowPlayers to inspect the connected-player information before acting.
After administrator access is granted, /ToggleSpectate switches spectator mode. The documented toggle key is .

Troubleshooting Xbox–PC connections
The server does not appear for Xbox
- Confirm the server was started with community-server registration, using
Open and start as a community serveror-publiclobby. - Make sure the Xbox player selected Community server on the left side of the browser.
- Check that the server is running and that its public details are configured correctly.
- Do not tell the Xbox player to enter an IP address; Xbox does not support that connection method.
Steam players can join, but Xbox players cannot
The likely issue is server discovery or community registration, not an assumed Steam–Xbox incompatibility. Verify that the live configuration uses CrossplayPlatforms and that the server was launched as a community server.
The setting change had no effect
Check that you edited PalWorldSettings.ini, not DefaultPalWorldSettings.ini. Stop the server before changing the live file, then restart it after saving the configuration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA copied tutorial uses AllowConnectPlatform
That tutorial is based on the older Version 0.4.15 Xbox instructions. Replace that parameter with the current CrossplayPlatforms setting from the Version 1.0.2 configuration reference.
Players cannot connect after changing ports
Remember that PublicPort advertises the external community-server port; it does not change the listening port. Check both the server’s actual listening configuration and the public port presented to clients.
Quick Recap
The practical setup checklist
- Install or update the dedicated server.
- Start it once so Palworld creates its configuration directories.
- Copy the default INI into the correct WindowsServer or LinuxServer path.
- Edit
PalWorldSettings.ini, not the default template. - Use
CrossplayPlatforms, notAllowConnectPlatform. - Start the server as a community server with
-publiclobby. - Have Xbox players join through Community server.
- Give PC players the server name or, where supported, the IP-and-port connection details.
- Set an admin password and test
/AdminPassword,/Save, and a planned shutdown command. - Enable backups before the group invests significant time in the world.
