The Xbox 360 Store and Xbox 360 Marketplace stopped accepting new purchases on July 29, 2024. That closed the storefront on Xbox 360—not all Xbox 360 gameplay or every way to buy Xbox games. You can still play previously purchased games, redownload them, and play games from physical discs. Some Xbox 360 titles and add-ons also remain available to buy on newer Xbox consoles and Xbox.com if they are backward compatible.
What closed on July 29, 2024?
Xbox ended support for new purchases of games, downloadable content (DLC), and other entertainment content through the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace. The closure took effect on July 29, 2024, as described in Xbox’s official announcement.
This was a storefront closure, not a shutdown of the Xbox 360 console or all Xbox 360 games. It also did not end all Xbox game purchasing: eligible backward-compatible titles and DLC can still be bought through Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox.com.
Can you still play Xbox 360 games?
Previously purchased digital games
Yes. Xbox says games and other game content you already purchased remain playable. If you deleted a purchased game, you can still redownload it from your download history on the console. The ability to redownload an existing purchase is different from being able to buy something new in the closed storefront.

Physical-disc games
Yes. Xbox says physical Xbox 360 games can still be played on Xbox 360 hardware. The closure did not disable games installed from discs.
Playing on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S
Some Xbox 360 games work on newer Xbox consoles through backward compatibility, but not every Xbox 360 title is included. Check whether the specific game is in the backward-compatibility catalog before relying on an Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S to play it.

Can you still buy Xbox 360 games?
Not through the Xbox 360 Store or Xbox 360 Marketplace. However, Xbox says eligible backward-compatible Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games and DLC remain purchasable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox.com. Availability depends on the individual title; the closure announcement does not establish that every Xbox 360 game remains for sale.
For games that are no longer offered digitally, a used Xbox 360 disc may be an option if you have an Xbox 360 console. Availability and condition vary by title and seller, and a disc is not a way to play a game on newer hardware unless that title is backward compatible.

Will Xbox 360 multiplayer still work?
It may. The Marketplace closure did not itself end online multiplayer, but access to multiplayer and friends features depends on whether the game’s publisher continues to operate its online servers. Support can differ from one game to another and can change over time, so check the publisher’s current status for the particular title rather than assuming its online modes are still available.

Separately from the game-store closure, Microsoft Movies & TV stopped functioning on Xbox 360 after July 29, 2024. Purchased movies and TV shows could no longer be viewed through that app on the console. Xbox said previously purchased content would remain in the user’s library and could be watched on Windows 10 or later, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
