D20 Labs, formed from Zynga’s former Web3 gaming group, unveiled Royal Nutz Poker Club (RNPC) in September 2024 as a social casino poker game built on Base. Its launch-era plan combined Texas hold’em tournaments, collectible-based access and participation rewards; the available sources do not confirm whether the game can be played today or what its current access terms are.
What is Royal Nutz Poker Club?
Royal Nutz Poker Club is a poker game D20 Labs announced after separating from Zynga. GamesBeat reported that D20 acquired RNPC and Sugartown as part of the separation. D20 cofounder Matt Wolf said RNPC had been developed while the team was at Zynga. He described it as a standalone product that draws on Sugartown’s brand and technology, including its leaderboard system. (GamesBeat, September 16, 2024, updated June 18, 2025)
The separation also included Sugartown, its Ora collectible collection and supporting assets, according to GamesBeat. The outlet reported that Zynga’s initial NFT collection consisted of 9,999 Oras in September 2023. RNPC was presented as one of the games connected to the Sugartown project, rather than as a conventional Zynga release.
How was the game meant to work?
Texas hold’em and tournaments
D20 Labs’ October 24, 2024 retrospective said the initial game mode was standard Texas hold’em. RNPC was designed around multi-table tournaments, with leaderboard standings and participation contributing to rewards through a system called the Sugarboard. D20 described Sugar as an offchain rewards currency and said tournament formats, rewards and access tiers could be adjusted. (D20 Labs, “The State of Sugartown, Vol. 1,” October 24, 2024)

Base and Web3 access
The launch report described RNPC as built on Base, Coinbase’s blockchain network, and designed for web and mobile experiences. Those are launch-era plans, not confirmation of current platform availability. Wolf said reducing onboarding friction was important to making Web3 games reach a larger audience, and pointed to Base in that context. (GamesBeat, September 16, 2024, updated June 18, 2025)
Who was supposed to get access?
The original access strategy began with Sugartown Ora holders, followed by selected partner communities. GamesBeat named ApeChain as an early partner and reported Wolf’s comparison of a digital collectible to a ticket. D20’s retrospective framed tokenized access as a way to bring partner communities into tournaments without diluting the Ora collection. These descriptions document the proposed onboarding model, not current access rules or a present partner agreement.

The company presented community onboarding as a possible funnel between projects. The sources do not establish that every proposed partnership or reward arrangement went live.
Was RNPC real-money gambling?
GamesBeat reported that D20 described RNPC as a non-gambling social casino game: players could buy chips with real money, but winnings could not be cashed out. That is the launch-era product description, not a legal determination that the game qualifies as non-gambling in every jurisdiction. The reviewed sources contain no jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction legal analysis.
