Eviternity II is a 36-map Doom II megawad sequel, arranged as six chapters with five regular maps and one secret level apiece. Its creators framed it as a gift for Doom’s 30th anniversary, and it continues the story after Archangelus’ defeat. To play, you need the DOOM2 IWAD and a compatible MBF21 port; the project officially supports DSDA-Doom and GZDoom.
What is Eviternity II?
The Eviternity II project page describes it as a full-length sequel to Eviternity, built for Doom II. It continues the story after the defeat of Archangelus. The creators describe the sequel as larger and more difficult than its predecessor, and dedicate it to Doom and its community for the series’ 30th anniversary.
The anniversary framing needs a date qualification. Mapper Ola “ukiro” Björling’s Doom works page says Doom turned 30 on December 10, 2023, and that Eviternity II was released to coincide with the anniversary. ModDB, however, lists the project as released in September 2024; the final-version file was added on September 30, 2024. Those dates do not establish that the final file launched on Doom’s exact birthday.
How many maps are in Eviternity II?
There are 36 maps total, divided into six chapters. Each chapter contains five regular maps and one secret level, for 30 regular maps and six secrets. The structure gives the megawad a clear chapter-by-chapter progression rather than presenting all 36 maps as one undivided run.

What do you need to play it?
Eviternity II uses the MBF21 format, also identified as complevel 21, and requires the DOOM2 IWAD—the game data file for Doom II. The ModDB final-version listing names the download eviternityii.zip. It lists a file size of 115.55 MB, an addition date of September 30, 2024, and an update date of November 25, 2024; its note directs players to use the latest DSDA-Doom or GZDoom.
Bethesda says its DOOM + DOOM II release supports community-created mods across its listed platforms, with mod publishing limited to PC. Mods install separately and need additional storage; Nintendo Switch supports featured mods curated by id. That general support information does not confirm that Eviternity II itself is available or supported in the combined release’s mod system, so check the specific edition and compatibility rather than assuming it supplies a ready-to-use setup.

Which Doom source port should you use?
The project officially supports DSDA-Doom and GZDoom. Its guidance is a choice of presentation, not a claim of comparative performance: DSDA-Doom is the intended option for a feel closer to the original games, while GZDoom suits players who want features such as dynamic lighting, crosshairs, and alternate rendering options. For GZDoom, the project recommends default compatibility settings.
| Port | Project’s stated fit | Setup note |
|---|---|---|
| DSDA-Doom | Intended for a presentation closer to the original Doom games. | Use a current version with complevel 21. |
| GZDoom | For players who prefer dynamic lighting, crosshairs, and other rendering options. | Use default compatibility settings. |
Is Eviternity II harder than the first one?
The creators say the sequel increases both difficulty and scale. They also say difficulty settings are fully implemented for different skill levels and advise lowering the difficulty if a chapter becomes too hard. That is the project’s own guidance; it is not an independent assessment of map difficulty.

Who made Eviternity II?
The project is presented as a “Dragonfly project.” It credits Joshua “Dragonfly” O’Sullivan with making or heavily working on 21 maps. Guest mappers, listed by the project in order of appearance, are Tristan Clark; Ben “Bauul” Mansell; Kevin “Velvetic” Martins; James “an_mutt” Collins; Roberto “DMPhobos” Madera Muñoz; Brian “Bri” Irving; Álvaro “Guardsoul” González; Henry “Aurelius” Koivula; Alex “Scotty” Scott; Derek “Afterglow” MacDonald; Philip “Liberation” Brown; Ola “ukiro” Björling; and Seongbae “antares031” Park.
The soundtrack is described by the project as varied and almost entirely custom-composed. Its credited composers are Tristan Clark, Joshua “Dragonfly” O’Sullivan, James “Jimmy” Paddock, Brayden “AD_79” Hart, and Kevin “Velvetic” Martins. The project also says it uses an updated build of OTEX intended for a future standalone release; that statement does not establish that this updated build is already available separately.
