Yes—DOOM: The Dark Ages is Steam Deck Verified. Bethesda’s current estimate is approximately 720p at 30 FPS, with performance dependent on the Deck’s power settings, drivers, and other device-specific factors. That is a modest target rather than a promise of a locked 30 FPS, but it makes the game playable on Valve’s handheld when expectations and graphics settings are kept in check.
Steam Deck compatibility: Verified since October 2025
Bethesda says Valve verified DOOM: The Dark Ages for Steam Deck with Update 2.2 on October 15, 2025. That is the current compatibility status; launch-period reports about difficulty getting the game to run predate this update.
Verification does not mean the game runs at desktop-quality settings or at a fixed frame rate. Bethesda’s estimate for Steam Deck is approximately 720p at approximately 30 FPS. The publisher says its handheld estimates assume the device is using its highest available power setting and is not running on battery. Actual results can vary with the Deck, installed drivers, and selected power settings. Bethesda’s FAQ gives the estimate and its qualifications; Bethesda Support confirms Verified status.
What one Steam Deck test found
A useful independent data point comes from Kyle Orland’s May 13, 2025 test for Ars Technica. Before Update 2.2, he reported a reasonably steady 30–40 FPS at native 1280×800 with every quality slider set to Low and FSR upscaling set to Performance. These are results from that particular test and game version, not a benchmark of the current build or a guarantee for every Deck.

|---|---|---|
| Low, 1280×800, FSR Performance | Reasonably steady 30–40 FPS | Ars Technica’s pre-Update 2.2 test; results are not universal. |
| Medium | Consistently below 30 FPS | Same reviewer and test, May 13, 2025. |
| High | Generally struggled to exceed 20 FPS | Same reviewer and test, May 13, 2025. |
| Low, 768×480 | Consistent 45 FPS | Ars described the image as visibly grainy and pixelated at this resolution. |
| FSR Frame Generation enabled | Performance worsened in the test | Ars’s observation on that Deck and build; it should not be treated as a universal result. |
How to choose settings and power
Start with the Low preset
If you want to try the game on Deck, Low is the sensible starting point. The dated Ars test found Medium fell below 30 FPS and High generally stayed below 20 FPS, while Low with FSR Performance produced the strongest balance of image size and smoothness in that test. Your results may differ, particularly on a later game build.
Keep resolution trade-offs in view
Dropping to 768×480 improved the frame rate to a reported 45 FPS in the Ars test, but the image became visibly grainy and pixelated. That is a clear example of the cost of chasing a higher number: the faster result may look worse enough to make the game less pleasant to play.

Use a suitable power setting
Bethesda’s approximate 720p/30 FPS estimate assumes the highest available OS power setting and operation off battery. The publisher cautions that handheld performance varies with power settings, device, and drivers. A lower-power or battery configuration should not be expected to match that estimate automatically.
Why a Deck result stands out
Bethesda’s minimum PC specification targets 1080p at 60 FPS on Low and calls for a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU with at least 8GB of dedicated VRAM, 16GB of system RAM, and 100GB of available NVMe SSD storage. Those are desktop PC requirements, not Steam Deck requirements or a prediction of the Deck’s frame rate. The contrast helps explain why a playable result on a handheld is notable, but it does not mean the Deck meets the PC specification in the same way.

Verdict
DOOM: The Dark Ages is a real Steam Deck option, and its Verified status is current as of Update 2.2. Expect a roughly 720p, 30 FPS experience by Bethesda’s estimate, not a guaranteed 60 FPS. The May 2025 independent test shows that Low settings can be playable, while higher presets and aggressively reduced resolution involve substantial performance or image-quality compromises.
