Yes—an appropriately rooted LG Smart TV can act as a host for the PS4’s PPPwn exploit. The project, called PPLGPwn, runs a PPPwn implementation on webOS and sends the required traffic to a PS4 over Ethernet. It does not exploit the television through HDMI, and it does not permanently modify the PS4.
The important limitation is compatibility. The TV must first be rootable, its architecture and firmware must be supported, and the PS4 must remain on a compatible firmware with a matching payload. For most people, a Raspberry Pi, dedicated exploit device, or computer remains easier to replace and troubleshoot.

What PPLGPwn is—and is not
PPLGPwn combines two separate procedures:
- Rooting the LG TV: gaining enough access to webOS to run homebrew, shell commands, and—during setup—SSH.
- Running PPPwn: using the rooted television as the Ethernet-connected host for the PS4’s PPPoE exploit.
PPPwn is the underlying PS4 exploit associated with TheFloW. PPLGPwn is not a new PS4 vulnerability discovered in an LG television; its novelty is using a rooted webOS appliance instead of a PC, Raspberry Pi, or other dedicated host. After PPPwn succeeds, a payload such as GoldHEN or PS4HEN-VTX can provide the chosen homebrew environment.

The TV communicates with the console through a network cable. The picture connection remains separate: HDMI is not the exploit path, and Wi-Fi is not required for the basic TV-to-PS4 Ethernet arrangement.

Compatibility checklist
“LG Smart TV” is not a sufficient compatibility description. Check every item before changing either device:

The PPLGPwn repository warns that firmware released since mid-2022 is patched against the cited RootMyTV method. That is a project-specific warning, not proof that every LG model or every possible rooting technique is affected. Do not infer compatibility from the television’s release year alone.

- PS4HEN-VTX material covering 7.00 through 11.00, with availability and maturity dependent on the individual payload path.
These entries should not be treated as an unconditional promise that every listed version works equally well. Firmware support, payload availability, and successful testing are separate questions. Never use a payload intended for one firmware on another without checking the project’s current documentation.
If your PS4 may be eligible, record its firmware and do not update it until you have confirmed the desired exploit and payload path. A system update can remove eligibility.

What hardware is required?
- A compatible, rootable LG television.
- A PS4 or PS4 Pro on a supported firmware.
- An Ethernet cable connecting the PS4 to the TV.
- A computer or Android device with an SSH client for setup, where required.
- Optionally, a USB drive for transferring a payload such as GoldHEN.
The project references PuTTY, WebOS Dev Manager, and ConnectBot as SSH-capable options. A computer may not be needed for every later launch arrangement, but “no computer required” is misleading for initial preparation.
How the workflow operates
The exact files and installation commands can change, so use the PPLGPwn README for the current command sequence. Its workflow is broadly:

- Confirm the rooting route: verify that the applicable TV method still supports that firmware.
- Root the TV and establish access: enable the project’s supported shell or SSH installation path.
- Install PPLGPwn: use the official repository and select files for the TV architecture and PS4 firmware.
- Prepare the payload: choose either the documented GoldHEN or PS4HEN-VTX route; do not mix installers or mismatched payload files.
- Connect the console: plug the PS4 into the television’s Ethernet port.
- Configure the PS4: go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection > Use a LAN Cable > Custom, select PPPoE for IP Address Settings, enter any PPPoE user ID and password, then use Automatic DNS, Automatic MTU, and Do Not Use for the proxy.
- Start PPLGPwn: launch it from the TV and run the PS4 connection test when instructed.
- Wait for the expected network result: the README advises waiting for the PS4’s network-failure message before attempting another injection.
- Load the payload: after PPPwn succeeds, load the selected homebrew-enabling payload if the installation requires a separate step.
Because these scripts execute on a rooted consumer appliance, inspect the repository, verify that downloads come from the official project or its linked upstream sources, and understand the recovery implications before running anything. The upstream PPPwn implementation is available at PPPwn_cpp.
How to tell whether it worked
Possible indicators include:
- SSH output showing PPPwn progressing through its exploit stages.
- A PS4 notification such as “PPPwned” or an equivalent success message.
- The selected homebrew payload becoming available.
- GoldHEN or the chosen HEN environment loading after the exploit sequence.
Logs may describe stages such as initialization, memory-corruption handling, KASLR defeat, remote code execution, and payload execution. Individual runs may differ, so one familiar-looking line is not by itself proof of a complete jailbreak.
It is not permanent
PPLGPwn produces a temporary runtime jailbreak. A full shutdown or reboot normally removes that state, meaning the exploit must be run again. Rest Mode can behave differently from a complete power cycle, but it should not be treated as making the jailbreak permanent.

The TV can be configured to launch PPLGPwn at startup or through an input-hook shortcut documented by the project. That improves convenience; it does not change the PS4’s temporary nature.
Troubleshooting and failure modes
The TV has been updated
An update may have patched the rooting method or changed the webOS environment. A TV that was compatible in 2022 is not automatically compatible now. Check before connecting a candidate television to the internet, and do not assume that disabling automatic updates guarantees preservation.
The PS4 has been updated
Recheck the exact firmware and payload path. Do not force a payload designed for another version.
The network test fails
A normal network failure is not proof of success. Follow the project’s timing instructions, wait for the expected error, and retry the connection test only when appropriate.
The PS4 crashes or reboots
Wait for it to return to the dashboard, then confirm the Ethernet connection, firmware-specific payload, and TV-side log. Avoid repeated experimentation with mismatched files. Do not assume every crash is harmless.

The architecture is unsupported
Check the TV directly rather than guessing from its model name. PPLGPwn states that ARMv7 and AArch64 are its target architectures; other architectures and brands are uncertain.
SSH does not work
Keep the TV isolated from the public internet during setup. Never expose its SSH service directly to the internet, and change or disable unnecessary remote access after installation. Do not leave default credentials active on a connected device.
Development mode is enabled
The original report says development mode must be disabled for its described setup. Treat that as a condition of that particular method, not a universal rule for every webOS installation.
GoldHEN or VTX does not load
Check the payload filename, firmware target, installation route, and USB formatting. The README references FAT32 or exFAT for the USB payload path. Its documented implementation separates the GoldHEN and PS4HEN-VTX installers, so do not assume both can be installed together.

The TV approach is most attractive when you already own an unpatched, compatible model and are comfortable recovering a rooted appliance. Buying a random new LG TV for this purpose is risky: newer firmware may be patched, and sellers often cannot verify the exact software state.

Security, legal, and service considerations
Use this only with hardware you own and software obtained from legitimate sources. Homebrew and research are not the same as unauthorized copying of commercial games. Jailbreaking may also conflict with platform terms or anti-circumvention laws depending on your jurisdiction.
Rooting can affect warranty or manufacturer support, and a failed TV modification may make the television unusable. A modified PS4 may be unstable or lose access to official online services. Never use a jailbroken console for cheating, fraud, or evading online-service protections.

PPLGPwn is a genuine and technically interesting way to use a rooted LG television as a PPPwn host. Its achievement is convenience and unusual hardware reuse—not a permanent PS4 modification or a new LG-based PS4 exploit.
Use it if you already have a demonstrably compatible LG TV, a PS4 on a supported firmware, and the skills to preserve firmware and recover from mistakes. Otherwise, a Raspberry Pi, dedicated exploit device, or computer is usually the more practical long-term host.
