A fan-made game called Wuhu Island Explorer lets you roam a recreation of Wuhu Island rather than stick to the activities and routes of the original Wii games. It is made by AtomicLugia, not Nintendo, and offers walking, running, jumping, swimming and diving. The creator lists Windows, macOS and Linux versions, with version numbers varying by platform.
What is Wuhu Island Explorer?
Wuhu Island Explorer is a downloadable fan game by AtomicLugia, identified on the creator’s itch.io profile as Simon-Ricardo “AtomicLugia” Kühn. Its central idea is simple: explore Wuhu Island freely, on foot or in the water, instead of treating the island only as a setting for a particular activity. GamesRadar also described it as a fan game by the itch.io creator. It is not an official Nintendo release.
The recreation is primarily based on Wuhu Island as it appears in Wii Sports Resort, with some edits and elements drawn from Wii Fit Plus. Nintendo’s Wii Fit Plus island map describes Wuhu Island as a place to explore while running, cycling or doing other activities in that game; it does not describe or endorse the fan project.
What can you do on the island?
The creator describes a free-roaming experience with walking, running, jumping, swimming and diving. The game includes eight playable Mii characters, options to switch between default outfits and swimwear, and a fast-travel feature. The creator recommends mouse and keyboard because gamepad support is limited. These features are listed on the Wuhu Island Explorer project page.

GamesRadar’s August 8, 2024 coverage likewise highlighted running, swimming and diving as ways to explore the fan recreation. The appeal is being able to take in the scenery without following a particular activity; a project-page commenter described wanting to see the sights without an Island Flyover time limit, though that is one player’s reaction rather than a measure of broader audience opinion.
Platforms and version listings
The creator’s project page lists desktop downloads for Windows, macOS and Linux. Its displayed files list Windows 32-bit and 64-bit version 1.2.1, Mac version 1.2.1, and Linux version 1.2. The latest dated development-log entry shown is the version 1.2.1 update from October 22, 2025. Because versions and files can change, check the live itch.io page for the current download before installing.

- Includes complete console system, Wii Sports and Sports Resort games and Motion Plus remote (required for Sport Resort)
The page does not specify minimum computer requirements. It recommends mouse and keyboard; gamepad support is limited. The creator’s download page is the source for the game’s files and platform listings, but those listings alone do not establish Nintendo endorsement, licensing terms, or independent verification of download safety.
How closely does it match the Wii island?
Think of Wuhu Island Explorer as a Unity-based recreation, not a perfect port of the Wii game. AtomicLugia cautions that props and their placement, colors, water textures, ambient sounds and vehicle paths may differ from the original, and that bugs may occur. The creator writes, “I tried my best to give you the best Wuhu Island experience possible with the Unity engine”; that is the creator’s stated aim, not an independent assessment.

How it differs from the original Nintendo games
Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus are the official Wii-era games that feature Wuhu Island. Wuhu Island Explorer is a separate fan-made project that adapts the setting for unrestricted roaming. The distinction matters: the original games provide their own activity-based ways to visit the island, while the fan game is specifically built around free exploration. Buying or owning a Nintendo game does not provide access to the fan project.
