Online play depends on more than one service. Work through these layers before changing network settings:

- EA or game service: Check EA’s server-status page and current EA Help or official F1 updates. F1 2021 is not listed on EA’s status page, so look for a direct update rather than treating the listing as confirmation either way.
- Platform network: Check the network status for the console or PC platform you use. EA identifies platform-service problems as a possible cause of online connection failures.
- Your local connection: If EA and the platform appear available, test whether your internet connection is stable and restricted. Codemasters’ general connection guidance recommends checking status reports and connection restrictions; it is dated and does not make any one setting a universal fix.
If the issue persists, note your platform, the exact error text or code, whether other online games work, and whether the problem affects multiplayer alone or all online functions. These details can help distinguish a game-specific failure from a platform or local-network problem.
What F1 2021’s old patch notes can—and cannot—tell you
Past updates addressed particular connection problems, but those notes do not identify the cause of a failure today.

- Patch 1.15: EA described multiplayer connection-warning icons that indicate connection difficulties affecting you or competitors. An icon is a clue about connection quality, not proof of a server outage. See the patch 1.15 spotlight.
Have F1 2021’s online servers been shut down?
EA warns that online services for some older games may be retired; in some cases, a game may remain playable offline after online services end. Its service update policy says continued operation may no longer be feasible when there are “typically fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles.” That is a general EA statement, not an F1 2021 player count, a shutdown threshold decision for this game, or an announcement that its servers have closed.
EA’s A–H online-services shutdown list names some retired F1 titles but does not identify F1 2021 in the listing checked. That omission does not prove all of F1 2021’s online features remain available. Taken together, the available sources neither confirm a shutdown nor establish the game’s current online-service status.

Should you forward ports to fix it?
Codemasters’ general connection page mentions TCP and UDP port 3074, but that advice is broad and dated. Port forwarding is not a universal fix, and a local router change cannot resolve an EA or platform outage. Don’t apply it blindly: first identify the platform and consult current platform-specific guidance if you have evidence that a local network restriction is the problem. The Codemasters page is here.
