What was new for the 2022 season
EA announced the game as the official title of the 2022 FIA Formula One World Championship, with a release date of July 1, 2022. Its launch platforms were PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Origin and Steam (EA’s launch announcement).

The season-specific pitch included handling changes for the new car era, the Miami circuit, Adaptive AI, F1 Life and supercars. Formula 1’s launch-era feature coverage also describes circuit updates, F1 Sprint, formation-lap procedures, Safety Car periods, changes to practice programmes, F2, multiplayer and split-screen (Formula 1’s F1 22 feature guide).
F1 Life is the most divisive addition
F1 Life provides an off-track hub and a place for the game’s supercars, but reviewers did not consider it a substitute for deeper racing or narrative content. Metacritic’s critic summaries and Push Square’s PS5 review both flag it as a weak point; some criticism also reflects the absence of the preceding game’s story mode or older classic cars. Those omissions matter most if you value narrative progression or historic-car content as much as the current-season racing.

Career racing, accessibility and simulation settings
Career play is one of the game’s strengths in Push Square’s assessment, and EA’s launch feature list describes a variety of race-weekend procedures and activities. For players who want to tailor difficulty, EA describes Adaptive AI as adjusting competitors’ speed and competitiveness to keep newer players in the action. However, EA’s PS5 simulation guide specifies that Adaptive AI is for Casual Race Mode only; it is not a general setting for every mode.
EA’s PS5 guide also documents configurable simulation options, including how damage affects car handling (EA’s F1 22 PS5 settings guide). Check assists and damage settings for the mode you intend to play rather than assuming one accessibility option applies throughout the game.

Which platform edition should you check?
EA’s launch announcement lists PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and PC. PlayStation’s product page covers the PS4 and PS5 versions (PlayStation’s F1 22 product page). Confirm the platform and version before buying: a title listing across console generations does not mean every edition is interchangeable.
