If Hitman: World of Assassination crashes or will not open on PC, start by noting exactly when it fails, then check the game’s listed PC requirements and free storage. Update your graphics driver, use IO Interactive’s clean-boot guidance to test for background-app conflicts, and send support a DxDiag report if the problem persists. Official guidance does not identify one cause or guarantee one fix for every crash.
First, pinpoint when the game fails
The timing helps separate a launch problem from a crash later in the game. Before changing settings, record whether the failure happens:

Steam’s HITMAN World of Assassination listing, accessed October 8, 2026, gives the following PC requirements. Requirements and store-page details can change.

| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | not stated (Steam listing) |
| DirectX | Version 12 | not stated (Steam listing) |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz or AMD Phenom II X4 940 | Intel Core i7-4790 4GHz |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB |
| Storage | 60 GB free space | not stated (Steam listing) |
Compare your PC’s processor, memory, graphics card, Windows version, and DirectX support with the listing, and check that at least 60 GB of storage is available. Minimum specifications are a threshold, not a promise of smooth operation. If a component falls below the minimum, note which one; the available guidance does not establish that upgrading any particular component will fix every launch or crash issue.
Update the graphics driver
IO Interactive’s PC Performance Guide, updated April 19, 2021, recommends keeping graphics drivers current. Get the driver through the official support tools or driver page for your GPU brand, and choose the package that matches your graphics card and Windows installation.
Rank #2
- BECOME AGENT 47 - Suit up for a spy-thriller adventure where all your deadly abilities are put to the test across more than 20 locations.
- FREEDOM OF APPROACH - Your deadliest weapon is creativity. Unlock new gear and up your game on highly replayable missions
- WORLD OF ASSASSINATION - Travel in a living, breathing world, filled with intriguing characters and lethal opportunities.
The guide also recommends a clean driver removal and reinstall for driver trouble or graphical glitches. That is a targeted step for those symptoms, not a required first move for every failure to open. The guide dates to 2021, so Windows screens and labels may differ from its instructions.
Test for a background-app conflict with a clean boot
When the PC meets the listed requirements, a clean boot can help test whether another application is interfering. IO Interactive describes this as a diagnostic approach in its PC Performance Guide; it is not a guaranteed repair.
Rank #3
- ENTER THE WORLD OF THE ULTIMATE ASSASSIN: HITMAN World of Assassination brings together the best of HITMAN, HITMAN 2 and HITMAN 3 including the main campaign, Contracts mode, Escalation, Elusive Target arcades, featured live content andand the roguelike inspired game mode HITMAN: Freelancer.
- BECOME AGENT 47: Suit up for a spy-thriller adventure where all your deadly abilities are put to the test across more than 20 locations.
- FREEDOM OF APPROACH: Your deadliest weapon is creativity. Unlock new gear and up your game on highly replayable missions.
- WORLD OF ASSASSINATION: Travel a living, breathing world, filled with intriguing characters and lethal opportunities.
- Follow the guide’s clean-boot instructions for your Windows version. Because the guide was updated in 2021, a screen label or path may have changed.
- Try launching the game in that diagnostic startup state and note whether the failure changes.
- Restore normal startup afterward. If the game works only in the clean-boot state, that points toward a background-app conflict; re-enable startup items methodically to narrow down what is involved.
Check the launcher’s general troubleshooting guidance
If you use Steam and the failure occurs after “Preparing to Launch,” Steam’s general troubleshooting page may be relevant. It covers Steam games broadly, not a HITMAN-specific cause or fix. Use Steam’s current instructions for any platform troubleshooting rather than relying on outdated menu paths.
Send IO Interactive useful diagnostic details
If the game still fails, prepare a support report that lets IO Interactive see both what happens and what is on your PC.
Rank #4
- German packaging. German instructions. German playable.
- Save a DxDiag report using IO Interactive’s DxDiag instructions. The report includes system, display, audio, device, driver-version, and diagnostic information, and can be attached to a support ticket.
- Open an IO Interactive support ticket and provide the platform, a brief description, steps to reproduce the problem, and how often it occurs. These are among the details requested in its bug-report directions.
- Attach relevant evidence, such as a screenshot of an error or a short video showing the failure, if available. Include when the crash happens and the exact error text.
What the official issue list can—and cannot—confirm
IO Interactive’s known-issues page, dated May 17, 2023, says its list is not exhaustive. It did not identify a general PC launch or crash problem as outstanding, but that dated list cannot rule out a newer issue, a patch-specific problem, or something specific to your setup.
The official guidance supports checking requirements, updating drivers, testing for software interference, and reporting persistent failures. It does not substantiate deleting configuration or save folders, editing the registry, forcing a graphics API, downgrading drivers, or installing a third-party repair program as universal fixes.
