Fallout 4 update 1.46, released October 15, 2026, is a focused technical patch for PlayStation players and PC creators using Creation Kit. On PS4 and PS5, it fixes a crash tied to NPC FaceGen in Creations that add characters and introduces a mitigation for crashes caused by looping WAV audio. On PC, Creation Kit receives fixes for filtered PreCombine NIF conversion, archive-file discovery, Bink video packaging and SSF archive support.
What update 1.46 changes
Bethesda calls the release the Fallout 4 PlayStation and Creation Kit Update. It is not a content expansion: the October 15 notes describe targeted stability and authoring fixes rather than new quests, areas or gameplay systems.

The patch has two distinct audiences. Players on PlayStation should care about the two crash-related changes. Mod authors working in the PC version of Creation Kit should care about four fixes affecting conversion, file discovery and archive packaging for PlayStation Creations.

PlayStation fixes
NPC FaceGen crashes
Update 1.46 fixes “a crash related to NPC FaceGen when using Creations that add NPCs.” FaceGen is the character-face data used by NPCs, so the fix is specifically relevant to Creations that introduce new non-player characters. It does not establish that every crash caused by a Creation has been eliminated.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Looping WAV audio
Bethesda also introduced a temporary solution intended to prevent crashes from looping .wav files. If the looping audio comes from a Creation, it may still loop once, but the game should no longer crash as a result.
Looping Creation audio remains only partially supported on PlayStation. The mitigation therefore improves stability without promising perfect playback or removing every audio-related failure mode.

Creation Kit fixes for authors
Filtered PreCombine NIF conversion
PC-to-PlayStation .nif conversions for filtered PreCombines now process correctly when those PreCombines are generated through Creation Kit’s graphical interface. Previously, the workflow could leave a creator at an infinite loading screen while recombining geometry and updating a Creation with new archives.
This change matters when preparing geometry for a PlayStation-targeted upload: the conversion and archive-update stage should no longer hit that specific loading failure.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.

Files missing from the archive browser
An intermittent bug that prevented Creation Kit from finding files to archive has been fixed. The earlier symptom was an empty file explorer, even when files were available to include. With the correction, the tool should be able to discover those files during archive preparation.
Bink video files in Extra Files
Creation Kit now correctly adds detected .bik and .bk2 Bink video files to Extra Files. Authors using those video formats should no longer have to contend with the specific detection and inclusion problem addressed by this patch.

SSF archive support
.ssf files are now present in the allowed file list when packing archives. That enables the tool to include SSF files during the affected archive-packaging workflow instead of rejecting them because the extension was not allowed.

Should PlayStation players install it?
If you use Creations that add NPCs, update 1.46 directly addresses the FaceGen crash described in Bethesda’s notes. If looping Creation audio has been crashing your game, the patch is also relevant, but expectations should remain measured because Bethesda describes the audio change as temporary and PlayStation support for looping Creation audio as partial.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Players whose crashes have another cause should not treat 1.46 as a universal stability fix. Bethesda published no crash-rate percentage, benchmark or claim that all Creation-related crashes are gone, so there is no quantified guarantee of improvement beyond the listed scenarios.
What Creation Kit authors should verify
- Retry any PlayStation-targeted filtered PreCombine conversion that previously stalled on an infinite loading screen.
- Check the archive file browser if it previously appeared empty; the intermittent discovery bug is listed as fixed.
- Confirm that detected
.bikand.bk2files appear under Extra Files during packaging. - Confirm that
.ssffiles are accepted in the allowed file list when creating an archive.
These checks correspond to the four documented authoring fixes. They do not constitute a promise that unrelated conversion, upload or packaging errors have been resolved.
Bottom line for the 1.46 patch
Fallout 4 update 1.46 is a narrow but practical maintenance release. PlayStation users get a targeted NPC FaceGen crash fix and a partial mitigation for looping WAV crashes. Creation Kit authors get corrected filtered-PreCombine conversion plus reliable discovery and packaging of Bink and SSF files. The patch improves the named workflows, but Bethesda provides no numerical stability measurement and continues to warn that looping Creation audio is only partially supported on PlayStation.
