If you want the original Nintendo 64 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on a Nintendo Switch, the relevant service is Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack—not the standard Nintendo Switch Online plan. Nintendo identifies the Expansion Pack as the tier that includes classic Nintendo 64 games, and its earlier lineup announcement named Ocarina of Time. Because catalogs can change by region and over time, check the Nintendo 64 catalog on your own account before paying. A separate, rebuilt Ocarina of Time release for Nintendo Switch 2 is announced for November 5, 2026; that is a different purchase and is not the N64 game supplied through the membership library.
There are two different Ocarina of Time products
The phrase “Ocarina of Time on Switch” now refers to two distinct ways of playing the game. Choosing the wrong one can mean paying for a membership when you wanted a standalone release, or waiting for a modernized Switch 2 edition when you wanted the original N64 experience.

Original Nintendo 64 version through a membership
Nintendo’s Nintendo Switch Online overview describes the Expansion Pack as including access to a selection of classic Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, Sega Genesis and other retro games. The original N64 version of Ocarina of Time was named in Nintendo’s Expansion Pack N64 lineup announcement. This route is recurring membership access to the classic-games library, rather than a separately purchased modern release.

Rebuilt Nintendo Switch 2 edition
Nintendo’s product page for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 describes a separate game with overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, enhanced controls and modern camera movements. Nintendo has announced November 5, 2026 as its release date. It is listed as exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, so it is not the N64 application included with Expansion Pack.

Which Nintendo Switch Online tier do you need?
For the original N64 game, look specifically for “Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.” Nintendo’s current US service overview does not describe the base Nintendo Switch Online plan as including the Nintendo 64 library. The prices below are Nintendo-published US annual prices; your country, currency, taxes and current promotion may differ.
| Option | What it provides | Published US price and timing | Check before purchase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, individual | Expansion Pack benefits, including access to the classic Nintendo 64 selection | $49.99 USD per year, according to Nintendo’s service overview | Confirm that Ocarina of Time is currently shown in the live catalog for your region and account |
| Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, family | Expansion Pack benefits for up to eight Nintendo Accounts | $79.99 USD per year, according to Nintendo’s service overview | Confirm account eligibility, current price and local catalog |
| Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 | A separately purchased rebuilt edition with announced presentation and control changes | Announced for November 5, 2026; Nintendo’s cited information does not state a price | Requires Nintendo Switch 2; retailer stock, final details and availability can change before release |
The family membership costs $30 more per year than the individual US option, but its stated limit is up to eight Nintendo Accounts. At the published prices, one account uses the full $49.99 individual fee, while eight accounts would average about $10 per account for the year if all eight use the plan. That is only a comparison of the listed membership prices, not a promise that every household or group meets Nintendo’s current family-group rules. A single player should not choose the family plan merely because it allows more accounts.
How to verify that the N64 game is available to you
The strongest game-specific evidence is Nintendo’s historical announcement that named Ocarina of Time in the Expansion Pack N64 lineup. That confirms Nintendo’s planned inclusion at the time of the announcement, but it is not a guarantee that every region has the same catalog forever. Catalogs, licensing arrangements and service offerings can change.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Check your Nintendo Account country or region. Prices and game availability are not automatically identical between the United States and other markets. The account that will be billed is the one whose storefront matters.
- Open the Nintendo Switch Online catalog presented for your account. Look in the Nintendo 64 section on your console or in Nintendo’s current service pages rather than relying on an old launch list, a screenshot or a third-party list.
- Search for the exact title. Confirm that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time appears as an available Nintendo 64 game, not merely as a news article, video or listing for the upcoming Switch 2 edition.
- Check the membership tier shown on the same screen. If the game is associated with Expansion Pack, a base-plan subscription will not provide the required library benefit.
- Review the renewal amount and billing interval. Nintendo’s US figures are annual prices. The amount displayed at checkout for your account is the one that governs your payment.
- Confirm which Nintendo Account will play. The account arrangement, family-group status and console user profile should match the account that holds the membership. Do not assume that seeing the app on a console proves every user has access.
If the title does not appear in your regional catalog, do not subscribe on the assumption that a historical announcement overrides what Nintendo currently displays. Contact Nintendo support if your account appears to be in the wrong region or a purchased membership is not unlocking the catalog shown for your plan.
What the original N64 route is—and is not
It is a library benefit tied to membership
You are paying for the Expansion Pack service and its included classic-game selection. The practical benefit is continued access while the membership and Nintendo’s catalog terms apply. This differs from buying a current standalone game that remains in your purchase library independently of a subscription. If the membership expires, access to membership-only software can be interrupted until an eligible membership is active again.
It is not the rebuilt Switch 2 game
The N64 application and the Switch 2 edition should be treated as separate products. The N64 route is the way to play the original release through the classic-games service. The Switch 2 product is announced as a rebuilt version with presentation, dialogue, music, camera and control changes. Buying or subscribing to one does not mean you have bought the other.
It is not automatically a cross-generation entitlement
Nintendo lists the rebuilt game as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. A Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite owner should not assume that the announced product will run on that hardware. Conversely, a Nintendo Switch 2 owner can still choose the N64 service route if the classic library is the desired version and the game is available in that account’s catalog.

What changes in the Switch 2 edition?
Nintendo’s announcement uses the following feature description:
- Completely overhauled visuals
- Voiced cutscenes
- Expanded dialogue
- Symphonic orchestral music
- Enhanced controls
- Modern camera movements
These are announced features, not a guarantee that every final product detail has already been locked. Nintendo notes that some details may not be finalized. The announced date is November 5, 2026, which is after the October 2026 publication context of this guide. Do not describe the Switch 2 edition as already available before that date, and check Nintendo’s product page or an authorized retailer for any later change.
Nintendo also lists Save Data Cloud support for the Switch 2 game and says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for that cloud feature. That requirement concerns cloud-save functionality; it is separate from the question of whether you are accessing the original N64 version through Expansion Pack. Having a membership for cloud saves does not by itself purchase the Switch 2 game, and owning the game does not make the N64 application part of your purchase library.
Cost and value scenarios
The annual US prices give you a straightforward starting point, but the right calculation depends on how many people use the service and how long you expect to play. An individual Expansion Pack membership is $49.99 per year, or roughly $4.17 per month when spread across twelve months. The family price is $79.99 per year, or about $6.67 per month for the group as a whole. Those monthly figures are simple annual-price comparisons, not separate monthly billing offers.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If you are buying only to finish Ocarina of Time, ask whether you will also use the other classic systems listed in Nintendo’s service overview. The membership is not a one-game rental selected at checkout; its value comes from the broader Expansion Pack benefits during the active term. If several people in a family group will play Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance or Sega Genesis selections, the $30 difference between the two published US tiers may be easier to justify. If nobody else will use the account group, the individual plan avoids paying for unused capacity.
Do not compare the $49.99 or $79.99 membership fee with an assumed Switch 2 game price. Nintendo’s cited product information announces the Switch 2 release and its features but does not state a purchase price. Wait for the price displayed by Nintendo or an authorized retailer rather than treating the subscription cost as a forecast.
Which option fits your situation?
You want the original 1998-era presentation and mechanics
Choose Expansion Pack if the N64 version is the specific experience you want. Before subscribing, verify the current title listing on your account. This is the option that aligns with the original Nintendo 64 release rather than the announced visual, audio and control overhaul.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

You want modern presentation and controls
Wait for the Switch 2 edition and evaluate it as a separate game purchase. Its announced features target players who prefer rebuilt visuals, voiced scenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, enhanced controls and a modern camera. Nintendo has not stated a price in the information covered here, so do not use the Expansion Pack fee as a proxy for the eventual purchase price.

Compare the $79.99 US annual family price with the number of accounts that will actually use Expansion Pack benefits. The family option is stated to cover up to eight Nintendo Accounts, but the account arrangement and eligibility still need to match Nintendo’s current rules. Confirm who administers the group and which account will be charged before purchasing.
You only want one game for a short period
Calculate the subscription’s annual cost against how long you expect to use the broader Expansion Pack library. The service price buys the membership tier, not a one-game rental selected at checkout. If your priority is a permanent, separately purchased product, the announced Switch 2 edition is the product category to watch, although its price and final retail terms are not stated here.
You live outside the United States
Use the US amounts only as a reference point. Nintendo explicitly publishes the cited prices for the United States, while membership prices, taxes, currencies and catalogs can vary by region. Set your account to the country where you actually purchase and confirm the local amount and title listing before payment. A US price table cannot establish what Nintendo will charge in another storefront.
Platform, account and service checks
Before committing, separate three questions that are easy to conflate: which hardware runs the software, which account has the entitlement and which service tier supplies it. The N64 option depends on the Nintendo Switch Online classic-game service and an active Expansion Pack membership. The announced rebuilt edition depends on Nintendo Switch 2 hardware and a separate purchase. Nintendo’s listing of Save Data Cloud support for the rebuilt game adds a further membership requirement for that cloud feature, but it does not convert the game into an Expansion Pack title.

Use the exact Nintendo Account that will be billed when checking the catalog. If multiple users share a console, identify whether they are covered by an individual membership or by the family group. Check the family-group arrangement before assuming that a second profile can use the same benefits. The safest test is to open the Nintendo 64 application or its current catalog entry while signed in to the intended account and confirm that the Expansion Pack requirement is displayed.
Questions to answer before you press Subscribe or Buy
- Which version do I want? Decide between the original N64 game and the announced Switch 2 rebuild before comparing prices.
- Which hardware do I own? The announced rebuilt edition is listed as Switch 2 exclusive. The N64 route is tied to the Nintendo Switch Online classic-games service.
- Is the title visible in my live catalog? A historical lineup announcement is useful evidence, but your console or account catalog is the final practical check for current regional availability.
- Am I comparing like with like? Expansion Pack is an annual membership benefit; the Switch 2 edition is a separate game release. Their prices, access rules and ownership models are not interchangeable.
- Will I use other Expansion Pack content? The membership includes a selection of several classic systems, so its value depends on how much of that broader library you expect to play.
- Do I need cloud saves? Nintendo says the announced Switch 2 game supports Save Data Cloud and requires Nintendo Switch Online for that feature. Cloud-save access should not be confused with ownership of the game or access to the N64 catalog.
- Is my account in the right country? Verify the storefront, currency, taxes and title listing for the account that will pay.
- Could the details change? Prices, catalogs, release timing and retailer inventory are changeable. Recheck Nintendo’s current pages immediately before payment or pre-ordering.
Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying the base plan because it says “Nintendo Switch Online”
The base service name is not enough to establish access to Nintendo 64 games. Select the tier explicitly labeled “+ Expansion Pack” and verify the benefits listed for your account.

Assuming every country has the same lineup
Nintendo’s US overview and US prices do not prove that another country has identical availability. Check the local storefront and the account region that will be charged.
Confusing the two product pages
A page for the Switch 2 release may appear in search results alongside information about the N64 app. Read the platform label and release date. “Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive” and “November 5, 2026” identify the announced rebuilt game, not the existing membership-library version.

Treating an old announcement as a permanent guarantee
Nintendo’s older Expansion Pack announcement is evidence that Ocarina of Time was named for the N64 lineup at that point. It is sensible historical confirmation, but the live catalog shown for your account is the check to make before starting a recurring membership.
Using an annual price without checking renewal terms
The published figures are annual US prices. Review the checkout and account-renewal information for your region so you know the amount, term and billing arrangement that will apply.
Assuming a membership equals ownership
Expansion Pack supplies access through a service library while the membership and catalog terms apply. It should not be described as a permanent purchase of the N64 game. Conversely, a future standalone Switch 2 purchase should not be described as including the N64 application.
Pre-ordering from an unverified listing
Nintendo supports the existence, platform and announced date of the physical Switch 2 edition, but retailer inventory and any affiliate availability can change. Use an authorized retailer and confirm the final product details, price and release status before ordering.
A practical decision in one minute
- If you want the original N64 game, open the current Nintendo 64 catalog for your account.
- If Ocarina of Time is listed and you accept a recurring membership, compare the individual and family Expansion Pack prices for your region.
- If the game is absent, pause rather than subscribing based only on an older list.
- If you want rebuilt visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, enhanced controls and a modern camera, evaluate the separate Switch 2 release announced for November 5, 2026.
- Before paying for either route, confirm the hardware, region, current price and whether you are choosing membership access or a standalone game purchase.
Sources and dates to keep in mind
Nintendo’s current service description is available at Nintendo Switch Online overview. The historical announcement that named Ocarina of Time in the N64 lineup is Nintendo’s Expansion Pack membership-plan announcement. Nintendo’s announced rebuilt product, platform, features and November 5, 2026 date are on the Switch 2 product page. Check those pages and your own regional storefront again if you are purchasing after this guide’s October 2026 context.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack to play Ocarina of Time?
For the original Nintendo 64 version, Expansion Pack is the relevant tier because Nintendo places classic Nintendo 64 games in that service. Confirm that Ocarina of Time is currently listed in your regional catalog before subscribing.
Is Ocarina of Time included with the basic Nintendo Switch Online plan?
Nintendo’s US overview identifies the Nintendo 64 library as an Expansion Pack benefit, not a basic-plan benefit. Choose the tier explicitly labeled Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
How much does Expansion Pack cost in the United States?
Nintendo lists $49.99 per year for an individual Expansion Pack membership and $79.99 per year for a family membership covering up to eight Nintendo Accounts. Check your account for the current local price, taxes and renewal terms.
Can I buy the N64 version of Ocarina of Time permanently?
The route described here is access through the Expansion Pack classic-games library, not a separately purchased permanent N64 title. Continued access depends on an eligible membership and Nintendo’s current catalog terms.
Is the Switch 2 version the same game as the N64 app?
No. Nintendo describes the Switch 2 release as a separate rebuilt game with overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, enhanced controls and modern camera movements.
When does the Switch 2 edition release?
Nintendo has announced November 5, 2026. That date is later than the October 2026 context of this guide, and Nintendo notes that some product details may not be final, so verify the product page before ordering.
Can the Switch 2 edition run on an original Nintendo Switch?
Nintendo lists the announced rebuilt edition as exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. Do not assume that an original Switch or Switch Lite can run it.
Does Nintendo Switch Online provide cloud saves for the Switch 2 game?
Nintendo lists Save Data Cloud support for the announced Switch 2 game and says a Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for that cloud feature. That cloud requirement is separate from access to the N64 game through Expansion Pack.
What should I do if Ocarina of Time is missing from my catalog?
Do not subscribe based only on an older lineup announcement. Check your account country, current Nintendo 64 catalog and membership tier; contact Nintendo support if the account region or an active membership appears incorrect.
The Bottom Line
For the original Nintendo 64 Ocarina of Time, verify the live listing and choose Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Nintendo’s US reference prices are $49.99 yearly for an individual or $79.99 for a family plan of up to eight accounts. The rebuilt Nintendo Switch 2 edition is a separate product announced for November 5, 2026, with different hardware, features and purchase terms.
