Fallout 4’s next-generation update launched on April 25, 2024. It added native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S applications, console visual and frame-rate options, PC ultrawide support, fixes, and free Creation Club content. Bethesda later expanded the console settings, and Fallout 4 continued receiving updates in 2026—so the 2024 release is not the game’s latest patch.
When did the Fallout 4 next-gen update release?
Bethesda released the update on April 25, 2024. Its original announcement described it as a free update; Bethesda’s support page also addresses the question of when the upgrade was coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Bethesda’s April 11, 2024 announcement and Bethesda Support’s upgrade information establish the release and platform context.

For PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the update introduced native applications rather than merely describing console settings for the prior-generation versions. Bethesda said players needed to own Fallout 4 for the relevant device to download the update.
What did the update add on each platform?
| Platform | April 2024 changes | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 and Xbox Series X|S | Native applications, Performance and Quality modes, stability improvements, and fixes. | These are the next-generation console applications Bethesda announced. |
| PC | Widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, Creation Kit fixes, quest updates, and stability, mod, and bug fixes. The patch notes also list Epic Games Store release support and Steam Deck verification. | These PC additions are separate from the native console applications. |
| PS4 and Xbox One | Stability improvements, login fixes, and quest fixes. | Bethesda did not describe native PS5 or Xbox Series applications for these older consoles. |
The platform details and fixes are listed in Bethesda’s Fallout 4 update notes. Fixes differ by platform; the full notes should be consulted before assuming a particular issue was addressed on every version.

What frame-rate and visual settings are available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?
Original April 2024 settings
Bethesda’s original patch notes described Performance mode as targeting 60 FPS at 4K with dynamic resolution scaling. Quality mode targeted 30 FPS at 4K with ultra settings; with a 120 Hz display, Quality mode targeted 40 FPS. These are Bethesda’s published targets and settings descriptions, not independent measurements or guarantees of performance in every scene.
Update 2 added more control
On May 13, 2024, Bethesda added options for 30, 40, or 60 FPS targets and for prioritizing Visuals or Performance on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The 40 FPS choice requires a 120 Hz display. Either visual-priority setting may dynamically adjust internal resolution in demanding scenes, and Bethesda says these options can only be changed from the main menu. See Bethesda’s Update 2 notes for the follow-up settings.

No. Bethesda Support’s cumulative patch page lists an August 18, 2026 update with game and Creation Kit changes, including an increased BA2 archive limit. The support page also lists a separate Creation storage expansion dated May 27, 2026. These later changes should not be confused with the April 2024 next-generation release. Bethesda Support’s Fallout 4 patch and Creation updates lists the later changes and their platform-specific outcomes.
