No: Fallout 76 does not currently support crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox. Bethesda’s September 2026 native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade gives both console families current-generation versions, but its release notes do not announce cross-platform play. The upgrade is new context for the debate—not a change to who can play together.
Can PS5 and Xbox play Fallout 76 together?
No. The native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions do not let players on those platforms join the same game. Bethesda’s September 2026 release notes describe performance and stability improvements, but do not say crossplay has been added. Bethesda’s release notes therefore establish the upgrade, not cross-platform multiplayer.
The latest located developer comments on the subject came in a February 2026 interview reported by GamesRadar+. Creative director Jon Rush said the team was looking into the work involved, but that it was “just not in the immediate plans.” Production director Bill LaCoste described “huge technical hurdles,” including the challenges of retrofitting separate platform destinations, entitlements, account purchases and currency. These are dated comments, not a guarantee that plans cannot change; the later upgrade notes do not announce a change.
What the PS5 and Xbox Series upgrade changes
Bethesda released native versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S through their respective stores. The company says they improve performance and stability and allow further tuning across current- and previous-generation hardware. Players must redownload the full game to install the native build. Bethesda’s stated targets are specifications, not independent benchmark results.

These targets may make the two console versions more comparable in generation and performance ambitions, but matching hardware generation is not the same as sharing multiplayer servers. The cited upgrade details do not add crossplay.
Does Fallout 76 have cross-progression?
Some progress sharing exists between Steam and the Xbox App version of Fallout 76 on PC when players use the same Bethesda.net account. That is separate from crossplay. Bethesda says characters, progress and in-game items can be used between those PC storefronts, but Atoms, Season Tickets and Fallout 1st membership balance do not transfer. Bethesda also says PC and Xbox console versions do not share progress; its support information does not establish PlayStation cross-progression. See Bethesda’s account and progress support information for the stated storefront distinctions.

How to claim the native PS5 version
For PlayStation, Bethesda says digital owners, physical-disc owners and players accessing the game through PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium’s Game Catalog can download the PS5 version at no additional charge. In an update dated September 17, 2026, Bethesda said PlayStation Plus Essential players could download it starting September 25, 2026. Bethesda notes a EUR 1 charge in Germany because of age-rating rules. Use the PlayStation Store; disc owners need their qualifying PS4 disc. Xbox players should use the Xbox store. In either case, the native version requires a full redownload. Check Bethesda’s support page for entitlement details.
