Temporarily disable third-party applications
If you installed tools or other third-party applications through Desktop Mode, exit or disable them temporarily and restart the Deck. Test the game again to see whether the symptom changes. This is a diagnostic check, not evidence that a particular app causes the crash.

Confirm the game is up to date
Let the Steam client connect to the internet and install any available game update. GIANTS Software lists Farming Simulator 25 Update 1.23.1.0, dated September 9, 2026, and says Steam copies update automatically when connected. Check the installed version before relying on older crash reports.

Review Steam’s compatibility setting
In your Steam Library, open Farming Simulator 25’s properties and go to Compatibility. If you are troubleshooting a Steam app, Valve advises trying a current Proton compatibility tool where appropriate. Do not assume that a particular Proton release is a confirmed fix for this game. Valve notes that forcing a tool can cause Steam to download the Windows version if only the Linux version was installed. Follow Valve’s guidance and test one setting at a time.

Use the crash pattern to narrow down what to report
Change one variable at a time and record what happens. These details help you describe the issue, but are not proven causes by themselves:
- Does the crash happen at launch, while loading a save, or after a period of play?
- Did it begin after a game update or SteamOS update?
- Are mods or third-party tools involved?
- Does changing the compatibility setting change the symptom?
Desktop Linux reports and community anecdotes may involve different software and hardware conditions, so they cannot diagnose your Deck by themselves.
