First work out what “lag” means in your case: delayed responses or disconnections point to a connection issue, while low frame rates, stuttering, and crashes point to PC performance. The fixes differ, and the symptom alone does not reveal the cause. Check Ubisoft’s service information and follow its PC connectivity guidance for connection problems; for low FPS or crashes, use Ubisoft’s PC troubleshooting steps and the game’s in-game benchmark.
Identify the kind of lag
In Breakpoint, “lag” can describe two different problems. Separate them before changing settings or spending money:
| What you notice | Start with |
|---|---|
| Delayed multiplayer responses, a slow online connection, or lost connection | Ubisoft service information and the PC connectivity troubleshooting path |
| Low FPS, visual stutter, or crashes | Ubisoft’s PC troubleshooting path, the in-game benchmark, and your PC specifications |
These symptoms can overlap. A benchmark can help assess local performance, but it does not diagnose online latency; likewise, a connection test does not establish whether the PC can render the game smoothly.
If multiplayer responses are delayed or you disconnect
1. Check for Ubisoft service trouble
Before troubleshooting your home connection, check Ubisoft’s current maintenance and service information for Breakpoint. Service status can change, and the available information here does not establish whether a particular region or session is experiencing an outage. If Ubisoft reports maintenance or a disruption, local PC changes may not address it.

2. Follow Ubisoft’s PC connectivity steps
Use Ubisoft’s connectivity troubleshooting guidance for PC and follow the steps relevant to your setup. Ubisoft notes that operating-system updates can also update network drivers that may be required for connectivity.
3. Compare Wi-Fi with a wired connection
If possible, test the same multiplayer situation over Ethernet. Ubisoft recommends testing on a wired connection “for the most reliable and steady results.” If the problem changes on Ethernet, that makes the local wireless path a useful area to investigate; it does not prove the precise cause, and a cable cannot resolve a server-side problem or low FPS.

Run Ubisoft’s PC troubleshooting and the benchmark
For local performance symptoms, start with Ubisoft’s general PC troubleshooting guide. Ubisoft recommends using Breakpoint’s in-game benchmark to test how your current setup runs the game. Record the result and the symptom you are trying to address; the benchmark helps assess local performance, not multiplayer service health.

Compare your PC with the published requirements
Check your CPU, graphics hardware, memory, Windows version, and storage against Ubisoft’s published PC requirements. The Ubisoft Store listing specifies Windows 10, minimum and recommended system requirements, and 67 GB of storage. It is an older product page, so treat those as Ubisoft’s published specifications rather than proof of present-day compatibility or a diagnosis of your PC. Whether an upgrade would help depends on your actual components and benchmark results.
Try the additional software checks one at a time
Ubisoft developer account Ubi-Keo lists further troubleshooting in a pinned Steam support post. It includes clearing Ubisoft Connect and Steam caches, checking that Breakpoint uses the dedicated GPU, trying Windows compatibility mode if you use Windows 11, running an SFC scan, and installing the game and launchers on an SSD. These are troubleshooting options, not guaranteed fixes. Change one item at a time and note whether the symptom changes so you can identify which, if any, matters on your PC.

Give Support useful diagnostic details
For further help with performance issues, Ubisoft asks players to attach DxDiag and MSInfo reports. Include your PC specifications, benchmark result, the steps you have tried, and whether the problem is low FPS, stuttering, or a crash. That information is more useful for narrowing down a performance issue than the word “lag” alone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to record before narrowing down the cause
- The exact symptom: delayed response, disconnection, low FPS, stutter, or crash.
- When it began and whether it happens consistently or only in particular sessions.
- Whether other members of your party experience the same issue.
- Your PC specifications and the in-game benchmark result for performance symptoms.
- Whether testing over Ethernet changes a connection symptom.
Those details help distinguish a service or connection problem from a local performance issue without assuming that a particular component, setting, or network device is at fault.
