Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves DLC Fighters Compared: Which Character Should You Play?

Rick Strowd is the clearest mechanics-led Season 3 pick, but official sources do not establish a universal best or easiest fighter. Here’s what is known about each character and how to choose.

There is no evidence-based universal best DLC fighter in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves’ announced Season 3 roster. Rick Strowd is the clearest mechanics-led first pick in SNK’s published descriptions: his boxing game includes an Aggressor Style stance with overheads, lows, and catch counters. For Duck King, Kim Kaphwan, Manjiro Sano, Ken Ryuguji, Laocorn, and Reina, the available official material confirms their place in the roster but does not support a reliable ranking by strength, ease, or competitive role. Choose among them by watching their official trailers and seeing whose presentation appeals to you.

Quick answer: who should you try first?

If you want a recommendation based on a documented mechanic rather than a guess, start with Rick Strowd. SNK describes him as one of the series’ few true boxers and highlights a new Aggressor Style stance with follow-ups that include overheads, lows, and catch counters. That gives you a concrete reason to try him if you like boxing-inspired offense and stance-based options. It does not establish that he is easy, strong, or better than the other fighters.

If Rick’s style or character does not interest you, there is not enough comparable official gameplay information here to name a second-best pick. Watch the character trailers, focus on the moves and presentation you enjoy, and make your first choice accordingly. A trailer can help you decide whether a character looks appealing; it is not evidence of tournament strength or ease of execution.

Which Season 3 fighters are announced?

As of October 12, 2026, SNK’s announced Season 3 roster consists of seven characters. The company initially described mystery fighters for October and December, then identified Manjiro Sano and Ken Ryuguji for October and Reina for December in an October 10 announcement. Laocorn is announced for November. Release plans can change, and a scheduled month should not be mistaken for confirmation that a character is already playable on every platform or in every region.

Fighter What official material establishes What that means for choosing
Rick Strowd Boxer; Aggressor Style stance with varied follow-ups, including overheads, lows, and catch counters. SNK’s Rick announcement. The most specific mechanics-led reason to try a Season 3 fighter in the official descriptions covered here.
Duck King Announced Season 3 fighter; an official character trailer is indexed. SNK’s Season 3 announcement; official trailer index. Use the trailer to judge your interest in his presentation; the sources do not support a comparative move-set label.
Kim Kaphwan Announced Season 3 fighter; an official character trailer is indexed. SNK’s Season 3 announcement; official trailer index. Trailer appeal is a sound basis for an initial pick; no supported ease or strength ranking is available here.
Manjiro Sano Tokyo Revengers guest fighter announced for October 2026; character trailer is indexed. SNK’s roster announcement; official trailer index. Being a guest character may make him interesting to fans, but his source franchise does not establish how he plays in this game.
Ken Ryuguji Tokyo Revengers guest fighter announced for October 2026; character trailer is indexed. SNK’s roster announcement; official trailer index. Consider him if his trailer or guest-character connection interests you; do not infer his role or difficulty from his design.
Laocorn Announced for November 2026. SNK’s Season 3 announcement; SNK’s roster announcement. Availability depends on timing and storefront; the available descriptions do not establish a full move-set comparison.
Reina Announced for December 2026; SNK identifies her as a TEKKEN 8 character. SNK’s roster announcement. Her TEKKEN connection may attract crossover fans, but it does not show how her tools work in City of the Wolves.

The official trailer index is a practical place to look for character presentations, but its existence does not make the trailers a side-by-side performance test. The roster table separates what SNK has announced from what you can reasonably conclude when deciding whom to try.

What makes Rick Strowd the clearest mechanics-led pick?

Rick has the most concrete published description for a player comparing the Season 3 options. SNK characterizes him as a boxer and calls out the Aggressor Style stance as a source of varied follow-ups. The named options—overheads, lows, and catch counters—signal that his stance is presented as more than a single attack: it offers different kinds of follow-up choices. If you enjoy learning how a stance changes your offense, or simply want a fighter whose boxing identity is explicit, Rick is the most defensible first trial based on the available official descriptions.

Keep the boundary of that recommendation clear. The description does not say how often a player must enter the stance, how demanding its timing is, how safe its moves are, or how Rick compares with the rest of the roster. It also provides no win rates, pick rates, difficulty scores, or tournament placements. Treat the listed options as a reason to investigate his play, not as proof he is the strongest or easiest character.

How to choose when the move-set details are uneven

For fighters without a comparable written move-set description, use a short, repeatable viewing process rather than assigning them roles from appearance, franchise history, or a teaser. This helps you make a personal pick without mistaking marketing footage for a competitive evaluation.

  1. Check availability first. Look at the platform storefront you use to establish whether the character is released there and whether the listing is for an individual fighter or a pass. The announced month is a schedule, not a guarantee of current availability.
  2. Open the official character trailer. SNK’s character trailer index is the supplied official destination for the roster’s character presentations. Watch for moves and animations that genuinely interest you, rather than trying to determine an objective tier from a short promotional video.
  3. Notice the questions you still have. A trailer may show attacks without explaining approach range, defensive options, stance or resource demands, or how hard the character is to execute. Mark those as unknown instead of filling them in from a visual impression.
  4. Choose the appeal you can name. That might be Rick’s stated boxing-and-stance identity, a character’s visible move presentation, or a crossover connection. A personal reason is useful for choosing whom to try; it is not evidence about who wins more.
  5. After release, verify with actual play information. If your choice depends on execution burden or competitive performance, look for current gameplay evidence that directly compares those things. The official announcements and trailers cited here do not supply that comparison.

When fuller gameplay information is available, the most useful comparison questions are the same for each fighter: how they approach from different ranges, whether they rely on a stance or resource, what offensive and defensive options are documented, and what execution the game asks of the player. Add your own familiarity and character preference, but keep them distinct from measurable performance. In this roster’s current official descriptions, those categories are not established consistently enough to fill in for every fighter.

Which DLC fighter is easiest to pick up?

The available official material does not establish an easiest Season 3 fighter. A stance with several follow-ups does not prove that Rick is difficult, just as a familiar guest character does not prove that Manjiro Sano, Ken Ryuguji, or Reina is easier for a newcomer. “Easy” can refer to different things: learning a basic game plan, executing moves reliably, understanding matchups, or getting results. None of those is ranked across these fighters in the cited material.

If ease is your deciding factor, avoid buying on the basis of a trailer alone. Wait for released gameplay information that addresses the particular kind of ease you care about, or try a character if your platform and the game make that possible. Until such evidence is available, selecting the character whose presentation you like is more honest than presenting an unsupported difficulty order.

Does the Season Pass include the fighters, and what does it cost?

SNK’s product page distinguishes the base game from paid additional content. The base game should not be assumed to include DLC fighters. SNK’s Season 3 announcement lists a Season Pass 3 price of $19.99 / €19.99 and says earlier DLC characters can be purchased individually. The announcement also cautions that prices vary by storefront and release schedules can change, so those listed pass prices are not a promise of the current price in every country, store, or later sale.

SNK lists Season Pass 3 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, and Epic Games Store. Its listed Season 3 contents are Rick Strowd, Duck King, Kim Kaphwan, Manjiro Sano, Ken Ryuguji, Laocorn, and Reina. Check the current listing for your platform before paying: storefront availability, release timing, contents, and local price are the details that matter at checkout.

The purchase decision is therefore different from the character decision. If you already know you want several announced fighters, compare the pass listing with the individual character listings currently available in your own store. If you only want one, verify that fighter’s individual availability and price rather than assuming the pass is necessary. No claim about which option is cheaper for a particular buyer is reliable without the current platform and region-specific listings.

How strong is the evidence for a fighter ranking?

The official sources establish the roster, announced timing, product details, and one specific mechanics description: Rick’s. They do not provide a balanced comparison of all seven fighters by approach, range, resource needs, offense, defense, execution, or results. Nor do they establish a dated tier list, win-rate dataset, or community pick-rate comparison. A ranking that labels one of the other fighters best, easiest, or strongest would go beyond what these facts support.

That distinction matters because a trailer, a character’s reputation in another game, and a clear character concept answer different questions. They can show what a fighter looks like and help you decide whether you want to play them. They cannot, by themselves, tell you how that fighter performs across matchups or how quickly a new player will learn them. For a first purchase, make the decision on the grounds you actually have: Rick’s documented stance concept if it appeals to you, or the other characters’ official presentations and your own character interest.
