These are test-build-specific suggestions, not a guaranteed fix for every PC. The last located playtest ended March 2, 2026, and the developer postponed its planned Q1 2026 Early Access release without announcing a replacement date. Check the official Steam page and announcements to confirm a playable build is currently available.
First, confirm you can launch the current build
The developer’s troubleshooting FAQ was written for the February 2026 Steam Next Fest playtest, which ended on March 2, 2026. On March 31, the developer announced that the originally planned Q1 2026 Early Access release was postponed and gave no new date in that notice. Availability can change, so check the official Steam page and announcements before troubleshooting. If no client is currently available, you cannot test a fix against that build.
The FAQ’s advice below applies to the test client it describes. It may not apply to a later version if the developer has changed its instructions.
What should I do if the game crashes or has an Out of Video Memory error?
Write down the exact error text and when the crash happens. A startup failure, an “Out of Video Memory” message, a “GPU crashed or D3D device removed” error, and a crash after loading point to different troubleshooting branches in the developer’s FAQ.

- GPU or D3D error: update your graphics driver and close third-party monitoring software.
- Intel 13th- or 14th-generation CPU, with a crash or out-of-video-memory error: the developer suggests testing lower maximum CPU frequency or voltage with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility.
- Client crash or stutter during high memory use: follow the developer’s virtual-memory guidance, particularly if the PC has 16 GB of RAM or less.
- Moving from an old test client to a newly released one: check whether the new version’s instructions require a clean uninstall and removal of old local configuration files.
Fix a “GPU crashed or D3D device removed” error
For these errors, the developer recommends updating the graphics driver and closing third-party monitoring software before trying again. Get drivers from the graphics-card maker rather than relying on an old workaround or a driver version mentioned in a test FAQ.
The FAQ specifically warned NVIDIA users away from driver version 576.52 for that playtest. Treat that as historical advice for the test, not a current recommendation about which NVIDIA driver to install; check the latest developer guidance and NVIDIA’s current driver information.

Crashes or out-of-video-memory errors on Intel 13th- or 14th-gen CPUs
The developer associated this particular issue with instability in some hardware running at high frequencies. If you have an Intel 13th- or 14th-generation CPU and are seeing crashes or an out-of-video-memory error, its FAQ suggests using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to try lowering the maximum CPU frequency or voltage.
This is a conditional troubleshooting suggestion, not a general fix for other processors or a guarantee that changing CPU settings will resolve the crash. If the problem persists, report it through the developer’s bug-report channel rather than applying this advice to unrelated hardware.

Client crashes or stutters when memory use is high
The developer’s FAQ suggests adjusting virtual memory to help with high-memory-use stutters or crashes, especially on systems with 16 GB of RAM or less. Follow the FAQ’s setup guidance for the test client and your Windows version. The cited advice concerns a software setting; it does not establish that buying or replacing physical RAM will fix a Fate Trigger crash.
Should I delete files from an old test installation?
Only consider this when installing a newly available official client and the current instructions still call for it. For the test version covered by its FAQ, the developer advised users moving from an earlier test to fully uninstall the old client and delete its local configuration folder, FateTriggerS1GameSaved, before reinstalling. The instruction addressed incompatible optimized files between those tests; it is not a routine step for every crash. Do not remove the folder unless the guidance for the build you are installing applies.

Are the listed PC requirements final?
No. The Steam listing gives specifications for a test build, not confirmed final launch requirements. The older September 2024 closed-alpha FAQ had different specifications and said AMD cards were unsupported in that test; that historical limitation should not be applied to the later Steam listing, which includes AMD graphics cards.

The Steam listing also recommends an SSD. These are test-build specifications, not a diagnosis of a crash or a promise that a PC meeting them will run without errors.

How to report a crash that continues
Send the developer the exact error message, your PC configuration, and the steps that reproduce the crash through the official Discord bug-report channel. The Fate Trigger developer team’s playtest FAQ says: “If you encounter any bugs during the playtest, please visit the #bug-report channel on the Fate Trigger official Discord to provide feedback.” Use the current official channel and instructions if they have changed for a newer build.
