FC Coins vs. FC Points: What’s the Difference and Which Should You Use?

Short answer: Ultimate Team Coins are earned through play, mode rewards, and fair sales of tradeable items. FC Points are optional paid currency bought through EA-approved channels. Use Coins when the item you want is available through gameplay or the Transfer Market; consider Points only for a specific offer that accepts them and only if you are comfortable spending real money. Never buy Coins from another player or a third-party seller.

FC Coins and FC Points at a glance

The two currencies can appear in the same Ultimate Team menus, but they come from different systems and serve different purposes. Coins are part of the in-game economy: you build a balance by playing, claiming rewards, and making legitimate transactions with tradeable items. FC Points are a purchased balance that you add through an official store or an approved retailer.

Question Ultimate Team Coins FC Points
How do you get them? Play matches, claim mode rewards, quick-sell eligible tradeable items, and sell tradeable items at fair Transfer Market prices. Buy through the Ultimate Team store, an official platform store, the EA app, the Companion App where supported, or a trusted retailer. Physical retailer cards can be redeemed for Points.
Can you buy them with real money? EA says players cannot purchase Coins. Buying from another person or a third party violates EA rules. Yes. They are optional paid currency and are not required to play Ultimate Team.
What can they buy? Tradeable market items and any current Ultimate Team offer that explicitly accepts Coins, including some pass or store purchases. Offers EA makes Points-eligible, such as packs, stadium customisation, Ultimate Draft entries, Evolution slots, Season Pass access, and some Clubs cosmetics.
What is the main risk? Coin buying, transfers, price manipulation, or other distribution can trigger account action. Buying through an unsupported region, platform, or seller, or spending more than intended.
Who should prefer it? Players willing to earn value through matches, rewards, and ordinary market activity. Players who have identified a particular Points-eligible offer and deliberately choose to spend.

Menus, currencies, bundles, regional availability, and accepted payment methods can change between FC editions and offers. Treat the currency label on the current item page as the final authority.

What Ultimate Team Coins are

Coins are the earnable currency associated with Ultimate Team’s matches, rewards, and Transfer Market. EA’s safety guidance puts the rule plainly: You can earn Coins in EAS FC Ultimate Team™ by playing matches or selling Items on the Transfer Market, but you can’t purchase Coins. That statement appears in EA’s official Coins and Points safety guidance.

Academy Sports + Outdoors eGift Card
  • Card can be used for merchandise and services at any Academy location or academy.com. Card not valid until purchased and activated
  • Card not redeemable for cash, gift cards, refunds, exchanges, or credit (except as required by applicable law). Lost, stolen, or altered cards cannot be replaced.  Do not buy or sell if the packaging looks as if it has been tampered with.
  • Card cannot be resold without Academy permission. Check your balance at Academy stores or academy.com
  • Please note: Academy Sports + Outdoors does not sell or ship products into Alaska, California, or Hawaii. Academy’s products and services are not intended for residents of or individuals in the state of California
  • No returns and no refunds on gift cards.

Legitimate ways to build a Coin balance

  • Play Ultimate Team matches. Match activity can produce rewards and progress that add Coins or saleable items to your club.
  • Claim mode rewards. EA specifically identifies modes such as Division Rivals and Squad Battles as reward sources. Other modes may have their own current reward structures.
  • Sell tradeable items. List items on the Transfer Market at an ordinary, fair price that reflects the market rather than using a listing to move currency between accounts.
  • Quick-sell eligible tradeable items. Quick-selling is another Coin route when an item has a quick-sell value and you decide the immediate return is preferable to keeping or listing it.

These methods are deliberately slower than a supposed shortcut, but they keep the account inside EA’s rules and leave you with a transparent reason for every Coin transaction. EA’s FC rules article is the current reference for prohibited behaviour and changing reward systems.

What Coins are not

A Coin balance is not a product that another player may transfer to you. A friend cannot legitimately “gift” you Coins, and a seller cannot make a compliant sale of Coins outside the game. The fact that a transaction happens through a market listing does not make it legitimate if the listing is being used to transfer currency rather than exchange an item at a normal price.

What FC Points are

FC Points are an optional paid currency. EA’s wording is unambiguous: EAS FC Points are optional and not required to play Ultimate Team™. The statement and the supported purchase routes are in EA’s Points buying article.

Where Points can be purchased

EA lists several legitimate routes, subject to your edition, platform, and region:

Rank #2
Visa Physical Gift Card $200 (plus $6.95 Purchase Fee)
  • Gift Cards are shipped active and ready for use.
  • This card is non-reloadable. No cash or ATM access. Funds do not expire. If available funds remain on your card after the valid thru date has passed, please call customer service for a replacement card. A one-time purchase fee applies at the time of checkout. No fees after purchase.
  • To access your card information safely, type the complete website address shown on your Gift Card (MyGift.GiftCardMall.com) directly into your browser's address bar. Don't use search engines or shortened versions of the website address, as these may lead you to fake or fraudulent sites. Do not provide any Gift Card details (example: Card Number) to someone you do not know or trust. If you believe you've reached an illegitimate website, contact cardholder service at 1-888-524-1283. Be cautious of phishing sites, there are a variety of scams in which fraudsters try to trick others into paying with gift cards.
  • To report your Lost or Stolen Physical Visa Card, call Customer Service 24/7 at 1 (888) 524-1283 to cancel your Gift Card as soon as you can. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
  • Use your Visa Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted, including online.
  • The Ultimate Team in-game store.
  • The store operated by your console or PC platform.
  • The EA app.
  • The Companion App in situations where EA supports purchasing for your device and region.
  • A trusted retailer, including a physical card that can be redeemed for Points.

Do not assume that an option shown to another player will appear for you. Companion App support, card redemption, payment methods, and available bundles can vary by platform and country. Use EA’s current instructions for your account rather than an old video or a listing intended for a different edition.

Points are a choice, not an entry fee

You can play matches, complete objectives, participate in modes, and build a club without buying Points. A Points purchase changes how quickly you can access a paid offer; it does not turn Coins into a purchasable balance or remove the need to check what a particular item accepts.

What each currency can buy

There is overlap, but neither currency is accepted everywhere. The offer itself determines the available payment buttons. Check the item’s details in the current in-game store before planning a purchase.

Use case Coins Points
Tradeable player and club items Yes, through the Transfer Market when the item is tradeable and you can afford its listing. Not the normal route; Points do not replace a market purchase.
Ultimate Team packs Only when the particular pack or offer displays Coins as an accepted currency. EA lists packs among Points-eligible Ultimate Team offers.
Stadium customisation Acceptance depends on the current offer. EA lists stadium customisation among Points uses.
Ultimate Draft entries Use the currency shown on the Draft entry screen; do not assume every entry has the same options. EA lists Ultimate Draft entries among Points uses.
Evolution slots Only if the specific Evolution offer permits Coins. EA lists Evolution slots among Points uses.
Season Pass Some pass purchases can be made with Coins. EA’s Premium Pass guidance documents Coins as one possible route in Ultimate Team. Use Points when the current pass screen offers them.
Clubs cosmetics Availability is offer-dependent. EA lists some Pro cosmetics in the Clubs Store as Points uses.

The table describes categories EA has documented, not a promise that every item in a category is available at all times. A pack, pass, or cosmetic can have a limited-time price, a different edition’s rules, or only one accepted currency. Read the purchase panel instead of relying on a general rule such as “everything uses Points” or “everything uses Coins.”

Rank #3
Visa Virtual eGift Card
  • Visa Virtual eGift Cards are designed for online use only. Gift Cards are subject to Terms and Conditions: a.co/5bw3qXJ
  • When you access your Visa Virtual eGift Card for the first time, you’ll need to register your name, address, phone number, and email address via activationspot.com. These details should also be used as your billing address for online purchases, as many merchants require address verification for purchase authorization.
  • This Visa Virtual eGift Card is non-reloadable. No cash or ATM access. Visa Virtual eGift Cards are emailed active.
  • Funds do not expire but your Visa Virtual eGift Card has a ‘valid thru’ date (9 years from date of purchase). If funds remain after this date has passed, please call the Toll Free number found on your Visa Virtual eGift Card for a replacement card. A one-time purchase fee applies at the time of checkout.
  • This item is not eligible for refund, resale, or return. Available for sale within the United States only. Not available to residents of Puerto Rico, Hawaii, New Mexico, South Dakota, West Virginia and the US Virgin Islands.

Which should you use?

There is no universal winner. Decide by starting with the item or activity, not with the balance you happen to have.

Choose Coins when your goal is an obtainable market item

If you want a specific tradeable player, consumable, or club item, Coins are the relevant route because the Transfer Market is built around them. You can earn the balance through matches and rewards, then buy the exact listing you want rather than accepting the contents of a random pack. Market prices move, so patience, a fair listing, and checking several current offers matter more than treating a Coin target as a fixed price.

Consider Points for a specific Points-eligible offer

Points make sense only after you have identified an offer that accepts them and decided that the real-money cost is worthwhile. Packs, Draft entries, Evolution slots, selected pass options, stadium items, and some Clubs cosmetics are examples EA has documented. If the desired item accepts Coins instead, buying Points first adds an unnecessary conversion step: Points cannot simply be exchanged into a Coin balance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use a no-spend plan when you are undecided

Because Points are optional, waiting costs you nothing except the time needed to earn Coins or claim rewards. Play the modes you already enjoy, inspect the rewards, and revisit the offer after you know its accepted currency. This is especially useful when a store rotation or season change could alter the available bundle.

Use this four-question check before paying

  1. What exactly am I buying? Open the item or pass details, not just a promotional tile.
  2. Which currencies are displayed? Confirm whether the screen accepts Coins, Points, both, or another entitlement.
  3. Would I still want it without urgency? A limited-time banner does not change the optional nature of Points.
  4. Is the purchase route supported for my account? Confirm platform, region, edition, and retailer compatibility before entering payment details.

Why third-party Coin sellers are unsafe

Buying Coins from a website, social-media account, friend, or informal seller is not an approved alternative to earning them. EA prohibits both third-party Coin buying and Coin distribution, and says rule violations can lead to account penalties. The risk is not limited to losing the purchased balance; the account itself may be restricted.

Examples of prohibited Coin movement

EA’s rules give concrete examples that help distinguish a normal sale from a transfer:

  • Sending Coins to friends or receiving them from friends.
  • Using a market listing to move Coins instead of making a genuine item transaction.
  • Listing or buying an item far above or below its normal market level to transfer value.
  • Offering Coins in exchange for an outside favour, service, or payment.
  • Funnelling value through several accounts to conceal where the Coins came from.

Do not try to disguise a transfer as a giveaway, a “loan,” or a bargain listing. The compliant alternatives are ordinary gameplay, mode rewards, quick-selling where appropriate, and fair-price sales of tradeable items. EA’s rules can change, so consult the linked rules page if a new promotion or market tactic is unclear.

How to buy Points without creating avoidable problems

  1. Open the offer in the game first. Confirm the exact edition, item, bundle contents, and accepted currency.
  2. Check your platform and region. A console-store bundle, Companion App option, or physical card may be restricted by country, platform, or account.
  3. Use an EA-listed route. Buy in the Ultimate Team store, your official platform store, the EA app, a supported Companion App flow, or a trusted retailer.
  4. Verify the card or code before paying. For a physical retailer card, check that it is intended for your edition and region and that the seller is trustworthy.
  5. Redeem through the instructions for your platform. Keep the receipt or redemption confirmation until the Points appear and the transaction is complete.
  6. Return to the offer and recheck the balance. Spend only after the correct Points balance and item details are visible.

EA’s purchasing guidance is the place to verify current availability because supported apps, stores, cards, and regional conditions change. Avoid links sent by strangers or sellers that ask for your account credentials; an approved purchase route should not require you to hand over control of the account.

Spending controls and EA Playtime

If your concern is controlling paid spending rather than choosing between currencies, EA Playtime provides a weekly Points purchase limit. It also records relevant Ultimate Team activity, including packs opened with Points or Ultimate Team Coins.

There is an important tracking condition for purchases made outside Ultimate Team. EA says Points bought through external routes, such as a card or a direct first-party-store purchase, count toward Playtime after the Points are redeemed and after you log out of Ultimate Team and log back in. If a purchase does not appear immediately in the activity view, complete that relogging step before assuming the control failed. See EA’s Playtime controls instructions for the current setup and account-specific details.

What Coin rewards can look like

Reward amounts are seasonal examples, not permanent rates. For FC 26 Season 1, EA’s rules article gave these illustrative weekly ranges:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Mode Published FC 26 Season 1 range
Division Rivals 1,500–25,000 Coins
Champions 2,000–85,000 Coins
Squad Battles 3,000–20,000 Coins

EA warns that reward ranges can change. These figures describe that named season only; they should not be used as a promise for another FC edition, a later season, or every reward tier. Check the current in-game reward screen and the FC rules page for updates.

Premium Pass shows why the currencies are not completely separate

It is tempting to reduce the comparison to “Coins buy players and Points buy everything else,” but EA’s Premium Pass guidance makes that inaccurate. The Premium Pass article documents Ultimate Team Coins as a possible way to unlock Premium Pass. The options shown can depend on the mode, what you already own, and the tokens or currencies available on your account.

That example is a practical reminder to inspect the purchase screen each time. A current pass may show Coins, Points, another entitlement, or a combination of options. Do not infer the accepted currency from an earlier FC title or from another player’s screenshot.

A simple decision framework

Your situation Most sensible first move Reason
You want a particular tradeable item. Earn Coins and compare Transfer Market listings. You can target the item directly instead of buying an uncertain bundle.
You want to play without spending. Use matches, mode rewards, quick-sells, and fair market sales. Points are optional, so no purchase is required to participate.
You want a Draft entry or Evolution slot showing a Points price. Confirm the offer details, then decide whether the paid route fits your budget. Those are documented Points uses, but the purchase remains discretionary.
You see a seller promising cheap Coins. Do not pay or share account details; leave the offer. Third-party Coin buying and distribution violate EA’s rules and can lead to penalties.
You are unsure which currency a pass or pack accepts. Open the current item panel and read the payment icons. Accepted currencies are offer- and edition-dependent.
You are trying to cap spending. Set a weekly Points limit in EA Playtime and review its activity tracking. The control is designed for purchase oversight, including eligible external purchases after redemption and relogging.

Bottom line: earn Coins, treat Points as optional spending

Coins are the route for players who want value from matches, rewards, quick-sells, and fair Transfer Market activity. FC Points are a convenience purchase for selected offers, not a requirement for Ultimate Team. Check the currency accepted by the exact item, use only EA-approved Points channels, and keep every Coin transaction tied to genuine gameplay or a normal market sale. If a shortcut depends on buying, transferring, or disguising Coins, it is the wrong shortcut.
