The original listing used a free-to-start model, not a permanently complete free game. The Manager, Tournament and Kick Off modes were listed as paid unlocks, while Ultimate Team content used in-game purchases. Contemporaneous coverage also described the offer as “free with in-app purchases.”
Windows Store edition versus Origin’s PC edition
These were separate editions and should not be treated as interchangeable downloads.

More importantly, a Microsoft Q&A thread dated July 20, 2015 records a user who could no longer find FIFA 14 after uninstalling it. A follow-up says the purchase history marked the title as “no longer available on the store,” and another report says the user could see the game in purchased titles but could not reinstall it. That evidence means the old instruction to “download FIFA 14 for free from the Windows Store” describes the March 2014 launch state, not a reliable current method.
If you previously owned it
Signing in with the original Microsoft account and checking the Store’s library or purchase history is the only historically consistent recovery route. It may still fail if the license is no longer provisioned; do not assume that an entry in purchase history guarantees a reinstall.

Do not rely on the Store page as proof that a new license can be acquired. No supported command-line installation syntax or alternate Microsoft installation command is documented in the cited material.

These are historical product claims from the 2014 listing, not evidence that the associated online services or Store licensing still operate. The original PC download was reported as almost 1 GB in 2014, so that figure should not be used as a current download-size specification.

Operating-system mismatch
The Store build was designed for the Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 period. A Microsoft Community response in the support record states that some FIFA 14 versions were not compatible with Windows 8.1, without identifying the affected build numbers. Compatibility on modern Windows versions is therefore not established.

Uninstalling or formatting the device
The documented failure pattern is loss of reinstall access after uninstalling or formatting: the title can remain visible in purchase history while the Store refuses the download or reports that the game has been removed. This is a licensing-availability problem, not something a command-line repair can be assumed to fix.
Confusing the editions
Installing the Origin/EA desktop release will not restore the Windows Store touch-control edition. Conversely, Windows Phone listings are for a different device class and should not be used on a PC or tablet.
Practical conclusion
FIFA 14 really did launch in the Windows Store in March 2014 as a Windows 8/8.1 PC-and-tablet game with optional paid mode unlocks. Today, the product URL is still reachable, but current download access is unverified and documented support reports say the title was removed from the Store. Treat the headline as historical, check the original Microsoft account only if you previously owned the game, and do not confuse this edition with the separate Origin/EA desktop release.
