It is a useful starting selection, not the only viable XI. Its logic is to keep the quick front three together, use Keïta and Wijnaldum’s running, and let the full-backs add width and crossing. Adjust for fitness, form and the opposition rather than treating the recommendation as a fixed rule.
Which formation should you use?
The 2019 guide recommends 4-3-3 False 9 as its default, while identifying 4-3-2-1 and 4-3-3 Attack as alternatives if you prefer a conventional striker. It also references 4-2-3-1 Wide. These shapes are best compared by how you want Firmino used, how much midfield cover Fabinho supplies, and how aggressively your full-backs advance.

- Fabinho: “Stay Back While Attacking” to anchor the midfield when the full-backs advance.
- Mohamed Salah: “Stay Forward” and “Get In Behind” to preserve a forward outlet and attack space.
- Sadio Mané: “Get In Behind” to make forward runs from the opposite side.
The guide’s broader idea is to combine those runs with Keïta and Wijnaldum moving through midfield and Alexander-Arnold and Robertson providing width. If your full-backs are being caught out, reduce their attacking freedom or keep the midfield protection intact; if you need more pressure in the final third, test the shape and instructions in your own matches.

Budget figures differ by source and presentation, so do not treat them as interchangeable: the 2019 RealSport101 guide reports a £94 million transfer budget and £232,000 weekly wage budget, while FIFA Index’s FIFA 19 database lists a €90,000,000 transfer budget. The guide identifies right-back cover as a potential weakness because Alexander-Arnold is its only recognized right-back, and flags centre-back depth as another area to assess. It suggests considering Matip and Lallana for sale, but those are editorial options rather than required moves. Review your actual squad, formation and finances before selling players or spending heavily.

The same guide describes targets involving domestic league placement and cups, Champions League progress, commercial performance, youth development and profit. FIFA 19’s manual confirms that Manager Career board goals can span finance, brand and youth development, alongside other club-management priorities. Objectives vary by club and save: inspect the objectives screen before committing to a transfer or youth plan.
What Manager Career lets you manage in FIFA 19
EA’s FIFA 19 manual describes Manager Career as a combination of squad and financial management: “Scout for high potential Players, keep Players happy, manage the budget, and make key Player and Squad decisions as you take your club to the top.” In practice, the manual documents scouting instructions, player training, team sheets, player happiness, transfer and contract negotiations, delegated negotiations, bonuses and clauses, and short- and long-term board objectives.
Those systems make the Liverpool plan flexible: maintain a competitive XI, develop promising players, and judge transfer decisions against both your finances and the objectives set for your save. This is FIFA 19-specific guidance; newer EA SPORTS FC Career Mode descriptions should not be used as evidence for how this edition works.
