Gizchina reported on October 2, 2021, that FIFA 22 had been unlocked on Steam after a country restriction; the report did not identify the countries affected. That was a historical store-access change, not a guarantee of current access: Steam now says FIFA 22 is no longer available for purchase there. The “massive positive” wording and review figures in the headline also describe a 2021 snapshot, not Steam’s current review label.
What “officially unlocked” meant in the 2021 report
In an article published October 2, 2021, Efe Udin of Gizchina reported that a prior country lock had been lifted for FIFA 22 on Steam, including the regular and Ultimate editions. The article did not name the countries or establish exactly when the change occurred. It is therefore best understood as a report about Steam access at that time, not evidence of a worldwide unlock.

Steam lists FIFA 22 as released on October 1, 2021, developed by EA Canada and EA Romania, and published by Electronic Arts. Steam’s product listing now displays the notice: “FIFA 22 is no longer available on the Steam store.” The 2021 unlock report and today’s purchase status refer to different points in time.
What the review figures say—and when they applied
Gizchina’s October 2, 2021 report said FIFA 22 had received more than 700 Steam reviews, with 77% positive, and described the result as “massively positive.” Those are figures from that article’s 2021 snapshot, not current totals.

In the Steam listing accessed October 8, 2026, the all-time English-language reviews are labeled “Very Positive”: 80% positive from 39,184 English reviews. Review counts and percentages can change as users submit reviews, and Steam’s current label is “Very Positive,” not “Massively Positive.” Steam’s listing is the reference for that dated snapshot.
Can you buy FIFA 22 on Steam now?
No. Steam currently marks the game as no longer available on its store, so the historical unlock report does not mean new customers can purchase it there today. This describes Steam’s listing; it does not establish availability on other stores or platforms.
