fifa2002gc.dll is a FIFA 2002 game file, not a Windows component. If Windows says it is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, restore the complete FIFA 2002 installation rather than downloading an individual DLL.
The most reliable repair is:
- Find the FIFA 2002 installation folder.
- Check whether the file is missing or quarantined.
- Reinstall FIFA 2002 from trusted original media or a legitimate game archive.
- Apply only the correct regional update.
- Use compatibility settings if the game still refuses to start.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe exact installation path depends on where FIFA 2002 was installed. Look for the folder containing fifa2002.exe. Common locations include a folder under C:Program Files, C:Program Files (x86), or a custom folder chosen during installation.
#1 Best Overall
Do not copy this DLL to:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those folders are for Windows components and shared system libraries. A 32-bit game normally loads its own DLL from the game directory, even when it runs on 64-bit Windows through WOW64.
What the error message means
Different versions of Windows and different launchers may phrase the problem differently.
“fifa2002gc.dll was not found”
The named file is absent from the location where FIFA 2002 expects to find it. This commonly follows an incomplete installation, a failed extraction, antivirus quarantine, or manual modification of the game folder.
“The file fifa2002gc.dll is missing or corrupted”
Windows found a file with that name but could not use it, or the launcher could not verify the expected game files. The file may be truncated, damaged, or from a different FIFA 2002 release.
“A required component is missing”
This usually means the game installation is incomplete. Reinstall the game instead of searching for a replacement DLL.
“Error loading fifa2002gc.dll. The specified module could not be found”
This message can be misleading. It may mean the named DLL is missing, but it can also mean that Windows could not load a dependency required by the DLL. If the file is visibly present, reinstall the whole game and continue with the dependency checks below.
“The file is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error”
Treat this as a damaged, incomplete, wrong-version, or wrong-architecture file. Do not try to register it. Restore a clean copy by reinstalling FIFA 2002.
“Cannot register fifa2002gc.dll”
This does not mean the file needs to be registered. FIFA 2002 uses the DLL as an application module, not as a known self-registering COM component.
Fix 1: Check the FIFA 2002 folder first
Before changing Windows settings, confirm which installation is being launched.
- Right-click the FIFA 2002 shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Read the Target field.
- Open the folder shown in Start in, or browse to the folder containing the target executable.
- Confirm that
fifa2002.exeis present. - Look for
fifa2002gc.dllin the same folder or the game’s main installation directory.
If the file is present, do not download another copy over it. Continue with the reinstall and compatibility steps instead.
If the shortcut points to a temporary extraction folder, an old backup, or a removable drive that is no longer available, recreate the installation from the original source.

You can also search the computer:
- Press Windows key + E.
- Select This PC in the left pane.
- In the search box, type:
fifa2002gc.dll
- Wait for the search to finish.
- Check whether the result is inside the FIFA 2002 folder.
A copy elsewhere on the computer is not automatically suitable. Do not copy a file from another FIFA release, another computer, or a random folder merely because the filename matches.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
If FIFA 2002 worked before and the file recently disappeared, Windows Security may have quarantined it.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for a recent detection involving the FIFA 2002 folder or
fifa2002gc.dll. - Expand the detection to inspect its path and action.
Only restore the file if all of these conditions are true:
- The game came from trusted original media or a legitimate archive.
- The detection clearly points to the expected FIFA 2002 installation.
- You are confident the installation has not been modified by an untrusted patch or crack.
Microsoft notes that restoring a quarantined item can cause it to be detected again unless it is explicitly allowed. Do not broadly disable antivirus protection to make the game launch.
If the file was quarantined and you are uncertain about the installation, the safer choice is to remove the damaged installation and reinstall FIFA 2002 from a trusted source. A clean reinstall also avoids restoring a potentially altered file.
Fix 3: Reinstall FIFA 2002 completely
This is the primary repair for a missing or damaged fifa2002gc.dll.
First, preserve saved games if you need them. Save files may be stored in the game folder, a user documents folder, or another location depending on the release. Copy only your personal save data to a separate backup folder. Do not back up the entire damaged installation and then restore every file over the new installation.
To uninstall the existing copy:
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for FIFA 2002.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Follow the removal wizard.
If FIFA 2002 is not listed:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select FIFA 2002 in Programs and Features.
- Select Uninstall or Change.
After uninstalling, check whether the old game folder remains. If it does, rename it rather than immediately deleting it, for example:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
FIFA2002-old
Then install the game again from the original disc or a legitimate archive. Use a simple installation folder if the old installer has trouble with modern protected locations, such as:
C:GamesFIFA2002
Do not mix files from different FIFA releases, regional editions, language packs, or unofficial modifications. A historical FIFA 2002 update is known to have replaced or added the game DLL and regional resource files, so patch level and regional files can matter.
After the base game installs:
- Open the new installation folder.
- Confirm that
fifa2002.exeandfifa2002gc.dllare present. - Launch the unpatched game once.
- If it works, close it.
- Apply only the update intended for that release and region.
- Launch the game again.
If the file disappears immediately after installation, stop and check Windows Security Protection history before reinstalling repeatedly.

Fix 4: Run the game from its real installation folder
Older games sometimes fail when launched from an archive viewer, temporary extraction directory, or a shortcut with an invalid working directory.

fifa2002.exe. - Double-click the executable.
- If the game starts, right-click the executable.
- Select Show more options > Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).
- Use the new shortcut.
If the game requires elevated permissions:
- Right-click
fifa2002.exe. - Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch the game.
Administrator mode does not restore a missing DLL. It only addresses permission problems after the complete installation is present.
Fix 5: Use compatibility settings for the old executable
FIFA 2002 predates current Windows releases. Compatibility settings can help with startup, display, or permission behavior, but they are not a replacement for fifa2002gc.dll.
- Right-click
fifa2002.exe. - Select Properties.
- Open Compatibility.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Test an older Windows mode.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch the game.
If the result is worse, return to the same screen and clear the compatibility checkbox.
You can also use Microsoft’s built-in troubleshooter:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Right-click the executable.
- Select Properties.
- Open Compatibility.
- Select Run compatibility troubleshooter.
- Follow the prompts.
- Test the recommended setting.
Do not change several compatibility options at once if you are trying to identify the cause. Test one change, launch the game, and record the result.
Fix 6: Check for a missing dependency
If fifa2002gc.dll exists in the correct folder but Windows still reports that the specified module cannot be found, the problem may involve another dependency.
Start with the safe checks:
- Reinstall FIFA 2002 into a clean folder.
- Remove unofficial modifications.
- Apply the correct game update.
- Confirm that the executable and all game files came from the same release.
- Check whether other files in the game folder were quarantined.
Do not assume that installing a random Visual C++ package, DirectX DLL, or .NET version will solve this particular error. No specific Microsoft redistributable dependency for fifa2002gc.dll has been verified.
If the game uses an installer that explicitly reports a missing Windows component, use the component named by that installer and obtain it from Microsoft. Do not use a DLL download site as a substitute for the complete dependency package.

Do not enable Windows features at random. Older games may sometimes need a legacy component, but the fifa2002gc.dll error itself does not prove that a Windows optional feature is missing.
If the game installer or a separate Windows message specifically identifies a legacy feature:

- Presentation: FIFA 22 Legacy Edition features an improved graphic look with newly designed gaming monitors and menu

- Type Windows Features.
- Select Turn Windows features on or off.
- Expand the feature named by the installer.
- Enable only the requested component.
- Select OK.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
- Test FIFA 2002 again.
If no feature is named, return to the clean reinstall rather than enabling unrelated components.
Fix 8: Update graphics drivers only for broader game failures
A graphics driver is not the source of fifa2002gc.dll, and updating a driver will not recreate the missing file. Driver work becomes relevant if FIFA 2002 launches but displays a black screen, crashes during rendering, or behaves differently after a Windows update.
Recommended Free Tools
To inspect the current driver:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Right-click the graphics device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Note the provider, date, and version.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
If Windows finds nothing, use the graphics manufacturer’s official support channel. Avoid replacing a working legacy driver solely because the DLL is missing.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the manual work of hunting through several hardware pages and identifying stale drivers; its free scan shows what needs attention, while driver installation is handled by the full version. FIFA 2002’s complete reinstall remains the definitive fix for a missing game DLL.

Windows repair commands are appropriate when several unrelated applications report missing or corrupted system files. They are not normally able to restore a third-party FIFA DLL.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker. Restart Windows after both commands complete and test the game again.
If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, test other applications too. If it reports that no integrity violations were found, the Windows component store is less likely to be involved. In either case, these commands do not normally place fifa2002gc.dll into the FIFA 2002 directory.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed rarely helps with an application-local file. Outbyte PC Repair can make the manual process of identifying broader Windows repair issues easier: its free scan shows what it finds, while repair is performed by the full version. Reinstalling FIFA 2002 is still the definitive fix when only this game file is missing.
What not to do
Do not download a standalone DLL
Random DLL archives can provide malware, a mismatched build, an incorrect architecture, or a file with the same name from another release. Even a genuine file may not match your FIFA 2002 executable or regional patch.
Restore the complete game installation instead.
Do not copy it into System32 or SysWOW64
Those directories are not general-purpose storage for application DLLs. Copying the file there can create confusion and will not repair a damaged FIFA installation.
Do not run regsvr32 on this file
regsvr32 is used for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that fifa2002gc.dll is a self-registering COM DLL.
This command is therefore not an appropriate repair:
regsvr32 fifa2002gc.dll
It may produce an entry-point error, and it cannot restore a file that is missing.
Best Value
- Updated visual identity and a refreshed broadcast overlay package.
- Featuring the latest kits, clubs, and squads from some of the top leagues of the world.
- Now includes top women’s club teams and some of the world’s most famous stadiums, including brand new ones.
- Gameplay features and modes will have parity with FIFA 22 on Nintendo Switch without any new significant enhancements.
Do not mix FIFA files
Do not copy files from FIFA 2001, FIFA 2003, another language edition, another regional release, or an unofficial modified executable. Matching the complete game version is more important than matching the filename.
If FIFA 2002 still fails after reinstalling
A clean reinstall that restores fifa2002gc.dll changes the diagnosis. The remaining issue may involve:
- An incompatible patch or regional file set.
- Copy-protection or disc-access behavior.
- An obsolete installer.
- Unsupported graphics behavior.
- Another missing game component.
- A corrupted storage device.
- A security product repeatedly removing a game file.
Confirm that the game starts from its own folder, test the base installation before applying updates, and inspect Protection history again. If only a modified version fails, remove the modifications and test an unmodified installation.
If the drive shows signs of corruption, back up personal files and check the drive using Windows’ available error-checking tools. Do not continue reinstalling onto storage that cannot reliably retain files.
System Restore is appropriate only if the problem began after a broader system change and a restore point predates that change. It is not the first-line repair for a missing FIFA DLL.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFAQ
Is fifa2002gc.dll a Windows file?
No. It is a FIFA 2002 application DLL and should normally remain beside the game executable.
Is it a DirectX or Visual C++ file?
No verified evidence identifies it as a Microsoft runtime file. Reinstall FIFA 2002 before installing unrelated runtimes.
Should I put the file in System32 on 64-bit Windows?
No. Keep the 32-bit game DLL in the FIFA 2002 installation directory. Windows can run the 32-bit game through WOW64 without moving the DLL into a system folder.
The file exists, so why does Windows still say it is missing?
“Specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency that the named DLL needs. A clean reinstall is the safest first response. If it still fails, investigate the complete game installation rather than replacing the visible file.
Can I register fifa2002gc.dll with regsvr32?
No. There is no verified indication that this game module is a self-registering COM DLL. Registration will not repair it.
Should I restore the file from antivirus quarantine?
Only when the game source and installation are trusted and the detection clearly points to the expected file. Otherwise reinstall FIFA 2002 from trusted media or a legitimate archive.
What is the safest fix?
Remove the incomplete or damaged installation, reinstall FIFA 2002 completely, launch the clean base game, and then apply only the matching update.
