Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsfilemanager.dll is not a standard Windows component; it is an application DLL, and a documented version is associated with the legacy Garena+ desktop client. The safest fix is to identify the program and full path first, then repair or reinstall that exact application instead of downloading a loose DLL.
What this file actually does
A DLL is a library that an application loads when it needs particular functions. filemanager.dll is a generic filename, so Windows cannot identify its owner from the name alone. Different applications can use the same basename, and the file may be missing, quarantined, damaged, incompatible, or present while one of its dependencies is absent.

One documented Garena+ copy appears in locations such as:
C:Program FilesGarena PlusbbtalklibFileManager.dll
C:Program Files (x86)Garena PlusbbtalklibFileManager.dll
C:Program Files (x86)Garena PlusbbtalkupdatelibFileManager.dll
The documented Garena+ file is a 32-bit DLL, so it belongs beside the 32-bit application that loads it, including when that application runs on 64-bit Windows. These paths are clues, not proof that every filemanager.dll belongs to Garena+.

You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because filemanager.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because filemanager.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading filemanager.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “filemanager.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
- “Cannot start Garena+. A required component is missing: FileManager.dll.”
The wording varies by Windows version and by the application displaying the error.
Match the symptom to the likely cause
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best first action |
|---|---|---|
| The error names a Garena+ folder | Incomplete installation, failed update, or deletion | Repair or reinstall Garena+ |
| The error appeared after antivirus activity | Quarantine or removal | Check Windows Security Protection history |
| The error appears immediately after startup | Stale Run entry, task, or service | Identify and remove the obsolete startup reference |
| The file exists but the program still fails | Damaged DLL or missing dependency | Reinstall the owning application |
| “Specified module could not be found” appears | The DLL or one of its dependencies is absent | Repair the application and inspect its logs |
The path is unknown, such as C:ProgDataServices |
Unknown or orphaned third-party startup item | Investigate the parent process before restoring anything |
| Several Windows applications fail | Possible Windows component corruption | Run Windows Update, then conditional DISM and SFC checks |
Fix 1: Identify the program that owns the DLL
Do this before changing Windows system folders.
- Read the complete path in the error message. Record the drive, folders, filename and capitalization.
- Look for the application name in the path. A Garena+ path is more actionable than a path containing only
filemanager.dll. - Open File Explorer and browse to the parent folder.
- Check whether the DLL is actually missing or whether another file is failing beside it.
- Right-click the application executable in the same folder, select Properties, and open Details. Note the product name and publisher if listed.
- Open Properties for the DLL if it exists. Check Digital Signatures, Details, and General.
- Do not treat a version number, file size, or hash found in a third-party catalogue as a universal identity for this filename. Reported copies differ, which is why the full path and calling executable matter more.
If you cannot determine the owner, Microsoft Sysinternals Process Explorer can show processes and loaded modules. Start the application, locate its process in Process Explorer, and inspect the lower pane or module view for filemanager.dll. A DLL loaded by an application is more useful evidence than the basename by itself.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the owning application
For a Garena+ error, this is the most likely definitive fix.
Recommended Free Tools
Try the application’s repair option
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Find Garena+, the affected game, or the program named by the path.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair and wait for Windows to finish.
- Start the application again.
Windows 10 users can open Settings > Apps > Apps & features, select the application, choose Advanced options, and then select Repair when that option is offered.
If the program has its own launcher, use its Repair, Verify files, or equivalent function instead. Close the launcher and game first so files are not locked.
Reinstall when repair is unavailable
- Back up saved games, profiles, screenshots and configuration files if the application stores them locally.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the affected application and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Delete only leftover folders that clearly belong to that uninstalled program. Do not delete shared Windows folders.
- Install the application again using an authentic original installer or a vendor-supported source.
- Start it once before restoring custom files.
Do not install filemanager.dll separately. The installer needs to place the correct DLL beside the correct executable and include any matching dependencies. If Garena+ is abandoned in your region and no trustworthy original installer is available, do not substitute a random DLL repository. Remove the old program or startup reference instead, or contact the software vendor through its supported channel.
If reinstalling does not help, compare the new error path with the old one. A changed path can reveal that Windows is still launching an obsolete copy.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove a legitimate application file, especially from an old or rarely used program. Restore a file only when its path, parent application and source are trusted.
- Open Start, type Windows Security, and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent entries for
filemanager.dllor the affected application. - Open an entry to view its path and detection details.
- If it clearly belongs to the legitimate application and the installer is trusted, choose Restore or Allow on device where available.
- Reinstall or update the parent application afterward so the file is replaced cleanly.
- Run a full scan before launching the program.
Do not restore the DLL if it is unsigned, stored in an unexplained directory, or flagged as malware. In that case, remove the application and run a Microsoft Defender Offline scan from Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options > Microsoft Defender Offline scan.
Fix 4: Remove a stale startup reference
If the error appears before you open any program, Windows may be trying to launch software that has already been removed.
Check Startup apps
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for an unknown entry, an old Garena+ entry, or an item whose file location points to the missing DLL.
- Right-click it and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Disabling prevents launch but does not remove the entry. If the error stops, investigate the item before deleting it permanently.

- Press Windows + S, type Task Scheduler, and open it.
- Select Task Scheduler Library.
- Review tasks that run at logon or startup.
- Double-click a suspicious task and inspect the Actions tab.
- If it points to an uninstalled program, right-click the task and choose Disable or Delete.
- Restart Windows and confirm that the message no longer appears.
A path such as C:ProgDataServicesfilemanager.dll is not evidence of a Windows component. Treat it as an unknown or orphaned startup reference. Do not assume it is malware, but investigate its task, service, publisher and parent executable before restoring the file.
Fix 5: Replace a damaged file through the installer
If the DLL exists but Windows reports that it is corrupt or “not designed to run on Windows,” do not overwrite it with a copy from another computer.
Check the following:
- The application and DLL use matching 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
- The file is in the application’s own folder, not
C:WindowsSystem32orC:WindowsSysWOW64. - The file properties show a plausible publisher or signature.
- Windows Security has not blocked or replaced it.
- The application was installed from a legitimate source.
The reliable replacement method is the application’s repair or reinstall process. A 32-bit DLL copied from another release may load incorrectly, fail with a different error, or introduce malicious code.
Fix 6: Check dependencies before installing runtimes
“Specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency used by filemanager.dll is missing, not that the named DLL itself is absent.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Only install Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET when the error explicitly names that runtime or the application documentation requires it.
Do not install a runtime merely because a generic DLL guide recommends it. filemanager.dll is not identified as a Microsoft runtime DLL. If the application names a missing Microsoft component, use Microsoft’s official download and installation instructions, then restart Windows and test the application again.

Fix 7: Use DISM and SFC only for Windows corruption
Windows system repair tools do not normally restore a third-party application DLL. Use them when Windows itself is unstable, protected system files are failing, or several unrelated applications show component errors.
- Install pending updates through Settings > Windows Update.
- Restart Windows.
- Right-click Start and select Terminal (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the affected application.
Microsoft documents DISM and System File Checker for Windows component and protected system-file repair. A successful scan does not prove that filemanager.dll was restored.
Repeating SFC and DISM will not recreate a DLL that belongs to Garena+ or another third-party application. Reinstall that application instead.
When manually comparing DISM and SFC results, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what needs attention; its free scan identifies problems, while repair requires the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the owning game or application remains the definitive fix for its DLL.
Fix 8: Update drivers only when the evidence points there
A graphics or chipset driver is not a normal cause of one application-specific filemanager.dll error. Consider drivers only if the failure began after a hardware change, Windows update, device error, or graphics crash.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, or Network adapters.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and check the provider and date.
- Select Update Driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
For a clean reinstall, choose Uninstall device, restart, and install the driver from the hardware manufacturer or Windows Update. Do not remove a device merely because filemanager.dll is missing.
Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify what needs attention; its free scan shows the findings, while installing drivers through the full version is optional. For this error, updating drivers remains secondary to repairing the application that loads the DLL.
Why regsvr32 usually does not fix this
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose COM registration entry points. There is no reliable indication that the Garena+ FileManager.dll is a self-registering COM library.
Running this command:
regsvr32 filemanager.dll
may produce an error stating that DllRegisterServer was not found. That does not repair the missing dependency or reinstall the application. Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor specifically instructs you to register that exact DLL. Microsoft’s regsvr32 documentation explains its intended use.
Why random DLL downloads are unsafe
Do not download filemanager.dll from a generic DLL site and copy it into System32, SysWOW64, or the application folder. That approach can introduce:
- Malware or a tampered binary
- The wrong application release
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- Missing dependent DLLs
- A file with no trustworthy publisher or signature
- A persistent error because the real problem is a stale startup entry
The safe sources are the owning application’s original installer, its built-in repair or verification function, Windows Update for Microsoft components, and official hardware or software vendor support.
FAQ
Is filemanager.dll a Windows file?
No. It is an application DLL with a generic name. A documented version is associated with legacy Garena+, but the filename alone does not prove ownership.
Should I put it in System32?
No. Place third-party files only where the original application installer puts them. A 32-bit application on 64-bit Windows may use a 32-bit DLL in its own installation directory.
Will reinstalling Visual C++ fix it?
Only if the error identifies a missing Visual C++ component or another dependency points to that runtime. It is not the default fix for filemanager.dll.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchPC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Why does the error remain after I deleted the game?
A startup task, service, or Run entry may still reference the deleted program. Disable or remove that obsolete entry after confirming what created it.
Can SFC restore filemanager.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, not arbitrary DLLs installed by games and applications.
When should I use System Restore?
Use it only when the problem began after a known system change and a suitable restore point exists. It can affect recently installed applications and drivers. For a removed application, deleting its stale startup reference is usually less disruptive.
What if reinstalling the application still fails?
Recheck the exact path, inspect Windows Security history, review the application’s logs, test a new Windows user profile, and scan for malware. If multiple programs are failing, investigate Windows corruption or disk problems rather than repeatedly replacing one DLL.
