Naoki Yoshida was not among the directors elected to Square Enix Co., Ltd.’s board in May 2026. That is a corporate governance change—not evidence that he left Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV): 2026 coverage still identified him as the game’s director. Square Enix had previously announced Yoshida as an Executive Officer and member of its Executive Management Committee, effective April 1, 2025.
Which Square Enix board is Yoshida not on?
The May 2026 director list is for Square Enix Co., Ltd., the operating company behind the games business. It is not the board of Square Enix Holdings, its wholly owned parent company. Holdings announced its own director selection separately in June 2026, so the two rosters should not be treated as interchangeable.

In its February 27, 2025 announcement, Square Enix Co., Ltd. described itself as a wholly owned subsidiary of Square Enix Holdings and outlined a new management structure. The company’s May 20, 2026 announcement lists the elected directors as Takashi Kiryu, Yoshinori Kitase, and Yu Miyake; Yoshida is not among them.
What role did Yoshida take on in 2025?
Square Enix Co., Ltd.’s February 2025 announcement said Yoshida would serve as an Executive Officer and a member of the Executive Management Committee from April 1, 2025. The same release proposed a director slate of Kiryu, Kitase, and Miyake, subject to shareholder approval; Yoshida was not on that proposed list either.

The company said the committee was intended to speed up decisions and execution on business transformation and organizational management. This describes the purpose of the new structure, but the announcement does not establish Yoshida’s complete current executive responsibilities.
Is Yoshida still directing FFXIV?
The board roster does not answer that question: serving on a corporate board and directing a game are different roles. A GamesRadar report published April 25, 2026 continued to identify Yoshida as FFXIV’s director. The Square Enix governance announcements address company leadership, not a change to his assignment on the game.

Did Yoshida leave Final Fantasy 14?
No departure from FFXIV follows from his absence from the operating company’s board list. The available reporting still described him as the game’s director in April 2026; the corporate announcements do not say that he left the game or changed roles on it.
