They are not the only influence: activities and other choices also matter. This guide lists verified examples from Chapters 2 and 4, with each response’s documented affinity ranking; it is not a complete answer key for every conversation or current game version.
How conversation answers affect relationships
Dialogue and story scenes help express the relationships among the cast. Story and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima said he wanted to convey relationships through characters’ words and scenes, including the friendships among the party members. That means affinity is broader than a single romantic outcome.
RPG Site’s walkthrough describes some conversation responses as contributing to affinity and a later Gold Saucer date. It also identifies non-dialogue factors, including parade performance and minigames, as affecting relationships. A response’s ranking therefore indicates how that answer compares within its conversation; it does not guarantee a particular date by itself.
Chapter 2: Kalm dialogue options
Tifa: the mako tank
Tifa asks whether the mako tank reminds Cloud of anything. The walkthrough ranks the answers as follows:

The walkthrough says Aerith still meets Cloud at the clock tower after a different answer, so the highest-affinity response is not required to advance that chapter scene.

A separate guide flags a changed Chapter 6 Yuffie answer, but that does not establish the full patch history or every current response. Check the wording in your version if an answer is absent or differs; do not treat the examples above as a guarantee of exhaustive coverage.
Square Enix framed Rebirth as the second game in its three-part remake project and said its design added more freedom, choice, and exploration in response to audience feedback. Its official product page lists PlayStation 5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S, and describes the game as a standalone adventure for newcomers as well as returning fans: Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth page.
