These tests can help isolate a local network issue, but they cannot prove that your home connection is the cause or fix lag originating with an opponent, your ISP’s route, or the game service.
Is the lag coming from your PS5 connection?
Notice whether matches lag every time or only against particular opponents. A difference between matches is a useful clue, not proof: online play involves connections beyond your home network, and one match alone cannot identify the cause.
Check whether other online games or devices in your home are also having connection trouble. If several services are affected, investigate the home network or contact your ISP. If the problem appears specific to BLEACH: Rebirth of Souls, report persistent game-specific trouble to Bandai Namco. Player posts describe lag and connection problems, including from PS5 users, but they are anecdotal and do not establish how common the issue is or its cause.
Check PSN and install available updates

Check the game’s update history and install any update available for your copy. Bandai Namco’s official history lists version 1.43, released December 18, 2025, as its latest entry in that history; check the page for any later release. Its instruction is to apply the latest update: BLEACH: Rebirth of Souls update history.

Check for PS5 system software updates in Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.

Bandai Namco’s April 4, 2025 version 1.04 notes include online-match gameplay corrections, such as wake-up frame behavior and an online hit-registration correction for a character. They also say Free Match matchmaking region and connection speed default to Unlimited. Those notes document specific gameplay and matchmaking changes; they do not say that a general multiplayer-latency problem was fixed. See the official update history.
Test Wi-Fi against Ethernet
Run the PS5 connection test, then compare your usual setup with a wired test if you can. PlayStation recommends using a wired connection where possible for PS5 network troubleshooting: PS5 error NW-102650-4 guidance.

- Wi-Fi: Move the console nearer the router and reduce obstacles between them. This is an easy placement test, but walls, interference, and the wireless path can affect the result.
- Ethernet: Connect the PS5 to the router with a network cable and repeat the test and an online match. This bypasses the Wi-Fi link between console and router, making it a useful comparison; it does not change the route beyond the router or the opponent’s connection.
Compare how the connection behaves in play rather than treating the connection test’s download-speed figure as a guarantee of low fighting-game latency. The available official sources do not establish a minimum internet speed that solves lag in this game. You do not need to buy a cable if you already have a suitable one.
Restart the PS5 and network equipment

Close the game and restart the PS5.

Power off the modem and router. PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance says to wait at least five minutes before turning network equipment back on.

After the router and modem reconnect, run the PS5 connection test and try another match.
These are general PS5 network troubleshooting steps, not a diagnosis specific to BLEACH: Rebirth of Souls. A restart can help with a temporary local network problem, but it will not correct every cause of match lag.

What to do if matches still lag

If other online games or devices also have trouble, contact your ISP or PlayStation support about the connection.

If the problem persists only in this game after the checks above, report it to Bandai Namco and include when it happens, whether it affects every opponent, and what connection tests you tried.

Avoid random port-forwarding, static-IP, or DNS changes as supposed guaranteed fixes. Advanced settings depend on the router and network. PlayStation’s error-code guidance and general PS5 network advice discuss configuration issues, but consult PlayStation, your router maker, or ISP before changing settings: PlayStation PS5 network guidance.
What online support does—and does not—promise
Bandai Namco lists the PS5 version at 60 fps, online matches for up to two players, PS4–PS5 cross-generation online play, and a PlayStation Plus requirement for online play on its official game page. These are supported-play specifications, not a promise that every match will have low latency. The page notes that performance may vary by play conditions and environment.
The available official information does not confirm a current game-wide service incident, a single root cause for PS5 multiplayer lag, or what share of players experience it. That means the most useful next step is to compare matches and connection conditions rather than assume one fix applies to everyone.
