When did the FF7 Rebirth demo release?
PlayStation’s February 6, 2024 State of Play recap said the demo released that day. Square Enix’s announcement, published February 7, described the first part of a two-part demo as already released. The difference is the event-day date versus the publisher notice’s publication date—not two separate launch dates. PlayStation’s State of Play recap was credited to Yuri Mikami, Marketing & PR, Square Enix. The recap described the reveal as “around 11 minutes of never-before seen gameplay.”

The demo was free on PS5. The full game launched separately on PS5 on February 29, 2024. The US PlayStation Store listing displays the demo and full-game editions together; its offerings and prices may change.
What is in the demo?
“Fall of a Hero in Nibelheim”
The first episode covers Cloud’s flashback to an earlier SOLDIER mission. Players can control a younger Cloud and Sephiroth as they investigate monsters near Cloud’s hometown. Square Enix described it as part of the full game’s opening chapter. Square Enix’s announcement introduced it as the first part of a two-part demo.

“Dawn of a New Era in Junon”
Square Enix added the Junon episode on February 21, 2024, after players completed the Nibelheim section. It offers a compact preview of the Junon area, including exploration and synergy attacks. It is a demo-specific version of the area rather than a transferable slice of full-game progress.
Can you carry demo progress into the full game?
Some benefits depend on retaining the demo save data on the PS5 console. The PlayStation Store listing says that save data is required to use them:

These are separate conditions: completing Nibelheim enables the section skip, while the save data must still be present on the console for the listed benefits. If the data has been deleted or is no longer available, do not assume the rewards or skip will be recognized.

The PlayStation recap covered the connected world map, traversal, exploration, minigames and story footage. Examples included Chocobos, buggies and wheelies; world-intel activities and odd jobs; and Queen’s Blood, a card game. These were elements shown or discussed in the presentation, not a comprehensive review of the finished game.
