In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on PS5, open the in-game menu and choose Photo Mode. A guide reports that you can also press Square from the menu as a shortcut. Frame the image, hide the menu, then press the DualSense controller’s Create button to capture a screenshot.
How to open Photo Mode and take a screenshot
- Open the in-game menu. Select Photo Mode. A 2024 PS5 guide reports that the Square button is a shortcut; check the prompt at the bottom-right of the menu. Square Enix’s screenshot campaign instructions also describe entering Photo Mode from the menu.
- Compose the image. In ordinary gameplay, a 2024 guide describes using the right analog stick to rotate the free camera and the left stick for horizontal-axis adjustment. This is guidance from that guide, not an exhaustive official control map.
- Hide the menu. Once the framing looks right, select the menu-hide option for an unobstructed image, as described in Square Enix’s instructions.
- Capture the screenshot. Press the DualSense controller’s Create button. Square Enix’s instructions say screenshots can be taken in either Graphics or Performance mode; they do not identify one as universally better for Photo Mode.

What changes in cutscenes?
A 2024 guide reports that Photo Mode can freeze a cutscene on a frame, but does not allow free camera positioning there. That differs from ordinary gameplay, where the guide describes an adjustable camera.
Can you unlock more Photo Mode features?
Yes. In a PlayStation.Blog interview with the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth creators, the developers describe a photo-frame function and explain that Snaps, a photo enthusiast character, gives photo-location requests. Completing those requests unlocks additional Photo Mode features. The interview does not enumerate every unlock, so the exact additions are not specified here.

Is Photo Mode available in both graphics modes?
Square Enix’s screenshot campaign instructions explicitly allow screenshots in both Graphics and Performance modes. Choose the game mode you prefer; the instructions do not say one produces better Photo Mode results.
