Release date and platforms
Square Enix announced the new versions on February 6, 2026, setting June 3, 2026 as the release date for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. Its June 5 launch notice confirms the game is now available on all three. The notice also lists PS5 and PC availability. Square Enix’s announcement and its launch notice provide the official dates.

The release history is PS5 on February 29, 2024; Steam and Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025; and Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC on June 3, 2026. The Xbox versions support Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming, according to Square Enix’s February announcement.
Switch 2 physical edition: what the game-key card means
The Switch 2 physical edition is a game-key card, not a full game stored on the card. The game downloads when first played. Square Enix says an internet connection and at least 105 GB of available storage are required; it warns that the storage requirement may change and updates may need additional space. Check the April 10, 2026 product update for the publisher’s details.

Rebirth also includes optional Streamlined Progression settings. The publisher lists aids such as unlimited HP and MP, 9,999 damage, and easier weapon-ability acquisition. Players can tailor or toggle the options; they are selectable aids rather than a separate game edition. Square Enix says the feature is also available on PS5 and PC.

What kind of game is Rebirth?
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second installment in Square Enix’s remake project and is described by the publisher as a standalone adventure. The story follows Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Aerith, Red XIII and new companions as they leave Midgar and pursue Sephiroth. Square Enix says the trilogy’s third installment is in production.

In its February 2026 announcement, Square Enix characterized the game as having earned more than 125 perfect scores and 40 Game of the Year awards. Those are the publisher’s figures; the announcement does not specify its award list or counting method.
