The update is listed as version 1.090 on PS5 and 1.005 on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Square Enix also lists PS5 Pro PSSR optimization and AMD FSR upscaling support on PC. A separate Final Fantasy VII Remake update offers its own Head Start and event-scene fast-forward.
What the June 2026 Rebirth update adds
Square Enix’s June 3, 2026 update notice lists the following platform versions: PS5 version 1.090, Steam version 1.005, and Epic Games Store version 1.005. The update’s gameplay options are distinct: Game Boost can be adjusted during play, while New Game – Head Start changes the starting state of a new game.
Game Boost can be adjusted during a playthrough
Game Boost—called “Streamlined Progression Feature” on Square Enix’s English support page—offers separate enhancements that players can switch on or off in the in-game options menu, including during a playthrough. The English support notice describes options for keeping HP and MP full, dealing 9,999 damage, and carrying maximum quantities of items, with some exceptions. The damage option applies in battles and minigames. These are gameplay assists, not a new difficulty setting or a requirement for progression.
New Game – Head Start is for a new game
Head Start begins with level-65 characters and several developed materia. Rebirth’s maximum character level is 70, so this option starts characters close to the cap rather than at it. It is separate from Game Boost’s in-play toggles; the official notice describes it as a new-game option.

Graphics updates for PS5 Pro and PC
Square Enix lists optimization for the evolved version of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) on PS5 Pro, plus AMD FSR upscaling support on PC. The publisher describes FSR as enabling more stable and detailed image processing, but provides no benchmark figures or comparative performance measurements in the notice. It also says the update includes some bug fixes without itemizing them.
What changed in the Remake update
Square Enix’s Remake update notice lists PS5 version 1.002 and Steam and Epic Games Store version 1.004. The notice does not give a publication date in the page text, so these version numbers should not be read as confirmation of the current versions on those stores.

Head Start begins at level 45
The optional New Game – Head Start begins with all characters at level 45, their corresponding skill points, some max-level materia, later-story gear and accessories, useful items, and 50,000 gil. Square Enix says the option is available for the main game and FF7R EPISODE INTERmission. Players can choose a regular New Game instead. The publisher calls this feature “New Game – Head Start,” not New Game Plus.
Event scenes can be fast-forwarded
Remake’s update lets players fast-forward event scenes at 1.5x or 2.0x speed without skipping them. On the Epic Games Store version, language settings now follow the Epic Games Launcher setting rather than the user profile.

Earlier Rebirth updates to know about
Some features that may appear alongside the June 2026 additions in update histories arrived in earlier patches. Square Enix’s Rebirth update history records these examples:
- Version 1.060 added event-scene fast-forward at 1.5x or 2.0x.
- Version 1.070 addressed an issue affecting certain character appearances in PS5 Pro enhanced mode.
- Version 1.050 introduced PS5 Pro Versatility Mode. Square Enix described it as combining aspects of Performance and Graphics modes, with a 60 fps target and resolution equivalent to Graphics Mode, alongside PS5 Pro rendering and CPU-frequency optimizations. That is the publisher’s feature description, not an independently tested guarantee.
- Version 1.020 included frame-rate and graphical improvements, a sharp/soft output option in Performance Mode, camera-control options, and minigame difficulty selection. The history also records earlier fixes for progression-blocking bugs, quests, battles, display issues, and stability.
Which option should you use?
| Option | When it applies | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Rebirth Game Boost | During a playthrough; individual options can be switched on or off in the options menu | Combat and item-availability assists, including full HP/MP, 9,999 damage, and maximum quantities of most items |
| Rebirth New Game – Head Start | When starting a new game | Level-65 characters and developed materia |
| Remake New Game – Head Start | When starting a new game in the main game or FF7R EPISODE INTERmission | Level-45 characters, additional progression and equipment, useful items, and 50,000 gil |
| Remake event-scene fast-forward | During event scenes | Plays scenes at 1.5x or 2.0x without skipping them |
If you want to retain control over challenge as you go, Rebirth’s Game Boost lets you enable only the options you want. Head Start is the more sweeping choice: it supplies a stronger starting character setup, but applies when beginning a new game. Neither publisher notice presents these features as a conventional New Game Plus mode.
