Marisha Ray is reported to voice a character called Polydroid Shiva in Final Fantasy VII Revelation, announced at New York Comic Con 2026 in a panel clip that reportedly shows the character speaking with Vincent Valentine. The details come from secondary coverage published October 8, 2026. As of this writing, we have not found an official Square Enix announcement or a public recording of the panel that confirms the casting, the title, or the release date, so treat each of them as reported rather than verified.
What was reportedly announced
Two outlets covered the same panel on October 8, 2026. Kotaku’s report, by Ash Parrish, is titled “Another Critical Role Actor Joins The Final Fantasy VII Revelation Cast As Shiva (But Not The Shiva You Think).” Strafecast’s report is titled “Final Fantasy VII Revelation Announces an NPC-ified Version of Shiva Voiced by Marisha Ray | NYCC 2026.” Both describe the same core news: Ray voices a stylized, digitized version of the familiar summon, and the character is not the Shiva players have fought or summoned in earlier games.
| Detail | What the reports say | Source | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Voice actor | Marisha Ray voices Polydroid Shiva | Kotaku; Strafecast | Reported; no official confirmation located |
| Character design | A stylized, digitized take on the summon, compared visually to characters from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth | Kotaku | Visual description by one outlet |
| Panel clip | Shiva speaks with Vincent Valentine, voiced by Matt Mercer | Kotaku; Strafecast | Reported as shown at the panel |
| Snowboarding minigame | The clip suggests a link to a Gold Saucer snowboarding minigame | Kotaku (interpretation) | Inference; full context not established |
| Release date | April 8, 2027 | Strafecast | Secondary report only |
The clip and what it reportedly shows
According to Strafecast, the clip is a behind-the-scenes segment in which Polydroid Shiva addresses Vincent and insists he try the slopes. Kotaku reports the same clip and reads it as a hint that the character is tied to a Gold Saucer snowboarding minigame. That reading is an inference drawn from the clip, not a confirmed role. Neither report establishes how the minigame fits into the story, whether it is a playable feature, or whether the character’s role extends beyond it.
It is also worth separating two kinds of claim. What the clip reportedly depicts is a conversation between Shiva and Vincent. What reporters infer is the character’s job within the game. Until an official source describes the role, the snowboarding link should be read as a reasonable guess from the footage.

Casting reaction from Matt Mercer
Strafecast reports that Matt Mercer, who voices Vincent Valentine, reacted to the casting with the line “It was amazing, are you kidding me!” The same report says he joked that he hoped the casting was not a “nepotism scenario,” and then said the team had not known Ray was his wife. Mercer and Ray are married, which is why the joke landed with the panel audience.
These quotes are as Strafecast reported them. We have not seen a full transcript, so the exact wording should be checked against the panel recording if one is published before quoting it.

The Critical Role connection
Kotaku’s headline places Ray in the group of Critical Role performers who have joined the Revelation cast. That context explains the coverage angle, but it does not change what is confirmed. The reported casting is Ray in the Shiva role; the wider cast list and the character’s full scope are not established by these reports.
Cloud actor’s recording-hours estimate
Strafecast also quotes Cloud voice actor Cody Christian estimating “800 hours collectively” spent in the booth on the project. This is one performer’s rough estimate made during the panel, not a measured production figure, and it should not be read as a general statistic about the game’s development.

Related game: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Kotaku uses Final Fantasy VII Rebirth only as a visual reference point for the new Shiva design. Rebirth is an existing, separate game, and the comparison does not indicate that Rebirth and Revelation are the same title or share a storyline. Readers looking for the snowboarding minigame or the Gold Saucer setting should start with Rebirth, but Revelation’s version of that content has not been described in detail by these reports.
What to watch for to verify the news
- An official Square Enix press release or post on its Final Fantasy channels confirming the title, cast, and release date.
- A public recording or official summary of the New York Comic Con panel, which would allow the Mercer quotes and the Vincent clip to be checked directly.
- Confirmation from Marisha Ray or the production team that Ray’s role is Polydroid Shiva, and a description of how the character appears in the game.
- Any official statement that explains the snowboarding minigame connection, or that rules it out.
What remains unresolved
Three things are not established by the available coverage: whether the April 8, 2027 date is the official launch date, how large Shiva’s role is, and whether the minigame is part of the released game. Until official material arrives, the safest reading is that Ray has been reported as the voice of a new, non-summon version of Shiva who appears in a clip with Vincent and may be connected to a snowboarding activity.
