Finding Paradise Review: Is the Story-First Adventure Worth Playing?

Finding Paradise is a short, story-led adventure best suited to players who prioritize character, music, and atmosphere over mechanical variety.

Finding Paradise is worth playing if you want a compact, character-led story with emotional turns, humor, and a memorable soundtrack. It is a much weaker fit if you want demanding puzzles, combat, or freedom to shape the story: most of the experience is dialogue and guided exploration through memories.

What is Finding Paradise about?

Finding Paradise is the second full episode in Freebird Games’ To the Moon series. Doctors Eva Rosalene and Neil Watts enter the memories of Colin, a dying patient, to help fulfill a wish that appears to contradict itself. The story unfolds as they move backward through his life and try to understand what he really wants. Steam summarizes the premise as: “Two doctors traverse backwards through a dying man’s memories to fulfill his last wish.” Steam’s official listing describes the game as a standalone sequel.

Is Finding Paradise worth playing?

For players who value writing, character, atmosphere, and music over mechanical depth, yes. Critics cited by Metacritic praised its story, soundtrack, artwork, writing, and humor. The counterpoint is that the game is deliberately linear and offers limited conventional gameplay. Eurogamer Italy’s review characterized its structure as linear and repetitive; MeriStation likewise described it as more to watch than play. The central question is whether you want to experience a story or actively drive a game through varied systems.

Reception has been positive, though ratings are snapshots rather than a permanent verdict. When accessed on October 8, 2026, Metacritic listed an 81 Metascore, labeled “Generally Favorable,” from 18 critic reviews and an 8.4 user score, also “Generally Favorable,” from 252 user ratings. Steam showed 98% positive from 5,062 English-language reviews and 97% positive from 104 recent reviews at that time. Steam’s figures change as reviews accumulate.

  • Fully optimized for the Nintendo Switch in 60 FPS.

What do you actually do in the game?

Progress is organized around moving from one memory to another, talking with characters, examining or collecting memory objects, and solving small puzzles. MeriStation’s 2018 review found those puzzles easy and the overall experience light on interaction. That is a reviewer’s assessment, but it captures the broad appeal and trade-off: the game uses exploration to deliver its story rather than asking for sustained puzzle-solving or complex play.

Do you need to play To the Moon first?

No. Steam explicitly says Finding Paradise is a standalone full game and does not require playing earlier entries. Because it is still a sequel in the same series, familiarity with To the Moon can provide additional context, but it is not a prerequisite for following this story.
