To finish “Finish the Masterwork Weapon” in Baldur’s Gate 3, read Highcliff’s Blueprints in the Blighted Village smithy cellar, collect Sussur Tree Bark from the large Sussur Tree in Dread Hollow, then return to the forge. Use the bellows, add the bark to turn the flame blue, and finally add one plain dagger, greatsword, or sickle. The weapon you choose determines which Sussur weapon you receive.
This is an Act One quest involving the Blighted Village and the Underdark. The walkthrough below follows the required crafting order and explains which base weapon to use. Exact interface wording and coordinates can change between updates, so treat the locations as useful reference points rather than absolute requirements.

Quick solution
- Enter the blacksmith’s house in the Blighted Village and reach the forge cellar.
- Open the trapped chest and read Highcliff’s Blueprints.
- Travel to Dread Hollow in the Underdark and collect Sussur Tree Bark from the large Sussur Tree, around X -14, Y -138.
- Return to the Blighted Village forge, around X -446, Y -378.
- Use the blacksmith’s bellows.
- Interact with the lit furnace and add the Sussur Tree Bark. The flame turns blue.
- Interact with the furnace again and add exactly one ordinary dagger, greatsword, or sickle.
The forge creates the corresponding Sussur Dagger, Sussur Greatsword, or Sussur Sickle and completes the masterwork weapon quest.

Go to the blacksmith’s house in the Blighted Village. You need to reach the lower-level forge cellar, where Highcliff’s Blueprints are found in a trapped chest.

There are two documented ways to enter the cellar:
- Use the cellar doors: Find the shabby wooden doors leading to the lower level. They are locked, so you may need to unlock them or otherwise gain access.
- Drop through the smithy floor: Destroy the calcified web on the floor of the smithy, then use the opening to drop down into the cellar.
Open the chest and read Highcliff’s Blueprints. Merely picking up the document is not the important step; reading it starts or updates the quest and reveals that Sussur Tree Bark is needed for the masterwork weapon.
2. Collect Sussur Tree Bark in Dread Hollow
Travel to the Underdark and make your way to Dread Hollow. The required Sussur Tree Bark is taken from the large Sussur Tree at approximately X -14, Y -138.
The tree area may involve hostile encounters, so prepare your party before approaching it. The route and enemies can vary with your choices and the state of your playthrough; do not assume that reaching the tree will always be combat-free.

Once you have the bark, return to the Blighted Village. You do not need to find a second special crafting ingredient for the basic quest recipe.
3. Return to the forge and light the furnace
Go back to the blacksmith’s forge in the Blighted Village, approximately X -446, Y -378. At the forge, interact with the blacksmith’s bellows to light the furnace.

This step comes before adding the bark. If you try to use the bark while the forge has not been prepared, the crafting sequence will not proceed as intended.
4. Add the Sussur Tree Bark
With the furnace lit, interact with it and combine the Sussur Tree Bark. The forge’s flame changes from red to blue, confirming that the special material has been added successfully.

5. Add one eligible plain weapon
Interact with the blue-lit furnace again and add one ordinary, unenchanted base weapon from the eligible list:
- Dagger
- Greatsword
- Sickle
The weapon you place in the forge determines the reward. A plain dagger produces the Sussur Dagger, a plain greatsword produces the Sussur Greatsword, and a plain sickle produces the Sussur Sickle.

Do not use an enchanted, named, upgraded, or otherwise special weapon. This forge is not a general-purpose upgrade station for any weapon in your inventory; the documented recipe requires one of the three ordinary weapon types.
Which Sussur weapon should you make?
There is no universally best choice. Select the weapon that fits a character’s proficiency and fighting style rather than choosing based only on the name of the reward.

| Sussur Sickle | The sickle’s weapon type suits your party or the character who will use it. | Choose it for party fit; its core Sussur effect is the same type of benefit as the other rewards. |
All three rewards are +1 weapons that can attempt to Silence a target when they hit. The documented Sussur Greatsword effect requires the target to make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw; on a failed save, Silence lasts for two turns. This can be particularly useful against enemies who rely on verbal spellcasting, but the effect is not guaranteed because the target receives a saving throw.
What happens when the quest is complete?
After the weapon is crafted, the masterwork weapon quest is completed and you can equip the new Sussur weapon immediately if it suits your build. Applicable party members can also receive the Guild Artisan inspiration event “The Finest Ingredients.”
Common mistakes and fixes
The forge does nothing when I add the bark
Check the sequence. Use the bellows first, then interact with the lit furnace and add the Sussur Tree Bark. The visible confirmation is the change from a red flame to a blue flame.

I cannot use my favorite weapon
The quest recipe is restricted to a plain dagger, greatsword, or sickle. A weapon being valuable or powerful does not make it an eligible ingredient. Use an ordinary base weapon instead.
I added a weapon before the bark
Remove or cancel the selection if the interface allows it, then follow the sequence again: bellows, bark, eligible weapon. The quest is not asking you to upgrade an arbitrary weapon in your inventory.
Which weapon is the best?
Pick according to proficiency and party composition. The greatsword is appropriate for a greatsword user, the dagger for a dagger user, and the sickle when that weapon type is the better fit. The Silence-on-hit effect is the shared reason to craft a Sussur weapon, but it will not activate on every successful attack because the target can pass its saving throw.
