Fire Breathers Knowledge Exam answers
- Question: The tunnel you’re traversing has begun filling up with strange gas and you’re without your breathing apparatus. Answer: Evacuate as quickly as possible.
- Question: While traversing a smoke-filled building, your breathing apparatus has failed. Answer: A water-soaked rag.
- Question: One of your fellow Fire Breathers has been burned. Answer: Gently bind the burn with clean bandages.
- Question: While exploring a collapsed mine, your team leader flashes their safety light. Answer: Retreat immediately.
- Question: One of your squadmates has caught Sludge Lung. Answer: 1 pt. Purified Water, 2 Ash Rose, 2 Blight, 2 Soot Flower.
- Question: You’ve stumbled upon Scorch-diseased people brandishing clubs. Answer: Fall back and engage from a distance with firearms.
- Question: You’ve captured a Scorched-infected man you recognize. Answer: End his life as mercifully as possible.
Bethesda’s official Into the Fire quest walkthrough lists these responses and says all questions must be answered correctly to pass. A separately published guide notes that the questions can appear in any order, so identify each prompt rather than relying only on sequence.

Where to take the exam
The Knowledge Exam is the first of three Fire Breathers recruitment tests and begins at the Charleston Fire Department during “Into the Fire.” The exam answers can be found in documents around the department. A cheat sheet is on a desk near the master terminal on the second floor.
What to do after passing
- At the terminal, select the Physical Exam and travel to the Charleston Herald.
- Continue to the Final Exam at Belching Betty.
- Before entering the mine, collect the Fire Breather equipment and listen to the final exam briefing holotape, as Bethesda’s walkthrough advises.

Do the Fire Breathers exam questions always appear in the same order?
No. A published guide reports that questions can appear in any order. Match each question to its answer instead of relying on the list order.
